GMOs: What You Need to Know (Premium)
Arran Stephens, Founder of Nature’s Path Foundation, shared important information on GMOs for consumers. This article, highlighting an upcoming film on GMOs, is excerpted from his publication. Great links are provided at the end:
You have the right to know what’s in your food. Unfortunately, we don’t have this right when it comes to buying food containing GMOs.
What’s a GMO? They’re genetically modified organisms, plants or animals created through the gene splicing techniques of biotechnology. It merges DNA from different species. creating combinations of plant, animal, bacterial and viral genes that can’t occur in nature.
Why the concern? The long term health and environmental effects haven’t been properly tested. That’s why over 64 countries have placed significant restrictions, labeling laws, or outright bans on GMP products. Right now, the USA is not among them.

Avoid GMOs—Eat organic: The best way to avoid GMOs? Eat organic; certified organic foods are prohibited from using GMO seeds. You can also avoid them by looking for the Non-GMO Project Verified seal.
On to the Big Screen: I was fortunate to meet Jeremy Siefert, a passionate father and filmmaker, who was also concerned about GMOs, so much so he created a documentary about it called GMO OMG. The film starts with Jeremy’s six-year-old son, Finn, who is fascinated with seeds, and then grows in to his family’s quest to understand when our food comes from and what that means for our future.
The film tells the story of GMOs, in a compelling, heartwarming way that we believe helps bring people to an understanding of some of the issues, and that’s why we’re sponsoring it.
