Most Pediatricians Not Following Guidelines on Peanut Allergy (Premium)
The thought of a peanut allergy strikes fear into the heart of parents. After all, for a highly allergic child, encountering even a minute amount of peanut can be fatal.
For the last 20 years, the directive from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and shared by the American Academy of Pediatrics, was that to help avoid developing a peanut allergy, a child should not consume food containing peanut until 3 years of age.
Those guidelines changed significantly in 2017, but there’s a big problem.
