Alarming Connection: Red Food Dyes and Bowel Disease (Premium)
For decades, select synthetic food dyes have been linked to cancer, attention problems, and hyperactivity. A new danger has been revealed with research at McMaster University. Long-term consumption of FD&C Red 40 and Food Red 1 (Allura Red food dye) was shown to be a potential trigger of inflammatory bowel diseases, Crohn’s disease, and ulcerative colitis in an animal model.
