How ACN’s Book, Natural Treatments for Tics and Tourettes, Gave Me the Help I Needed
Reader Article
A parent contacted ACN Latitudes to thank us for the book by Sheila Rogers, Natural Treatments for Tics and Tourettes, A Patient and Family Guide.
The mother wrote:
I read this book and now my daughter is 100% completely cured of her tics. Let me explain how we did it.
The tics were pretty significant when she was in 3rd grade. She had tics for 2 years with no break. They included sniffing, lip smacking, blinking, eyebrow jerking, grimacing, etc. Had I taken her to a neurologist, she would definitely have been diagnosed with Tourette’s.
I took her to a traditional allergist, who scoffed at the notion that her tics may be from allergies. I then went to an environmentalist/pediatrician/ allergist who confirmed that my daughter is “chemically sensitive.” He recommended that we remove all unnatural chemicals from her life and made other recommendations, which we followed.
It’s not so hard to do. Once you realize how much junk is in our food and environment, it’s no wonder why we have problems. I only shop at health food stores now, which makes it easy.
I put my daughter on an all natural diet, put an air purifier in her bedroom and eliminated all chemicals from the house (no fragrances, no harsh sprays, etc.). We also added a magnesium supplement, Attentive Child.
She has been completely tic-free for well over a year now. If she occasionally has some junk food at a party, she begins to show tics or other symptoms and we immediately correct it. I now know that any unnatural chemical interferes with her neurotransmitters and causes lack of concentration and tics, among other things.
I hope this helps someone. Had I not done the research and figured out what her triggers are, she would still be having tics. Good luck to all.
ACN Latitudes encourages everyone with tics to explore numerous options for dealing with their tics, and searching for triggers can be well worth their while.
