Have you tried local raw honey? It does take the edge off and reduce some of the allergy symptoms. A HEPA filter in my kids' bedroom also helps w/their allergies, along w/bedding encasing, bare floor w/o carpet.... Pat

NAET is an energetic allergy desensitization treatment that is noninvasive. It helps you raise your tolerance to allergens. If you look up some of my past posts, you can get more info. Sorry i can't write more as i am studying for my final. There aren't too many parents on this board who have used this modality, but i have found it helpful for my son for his allergy & tics. Also, we have done a comprehensive approach and did not just do NAET. I can write more about it next week if you have questions. Pat

If it is allergy trigger tic, you may want to desensitize him from it to reduce the tic. My son has success w/NAET for his nasal allergy. In the meantime, try to use a hepa filter, wrap his mattress & pillow, remove carpet... to reduce his trigger. May want to try benedrayl (sp?). I believe it is less harmful than Claritin or Zytex. Craniosacral and Visceral Manipulation
patty replied to shydee75's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
CS has benefited my son. It really helped w/ his neck tic. Pat -
My son went to a chiropractor who also does craniosacral as part of the treatment. It may have improved the tics slightly. The more noticeable improvement was my son's gross motor sensory. He was more coordinated. After about 7 mos., we decided to stop. Pat

melanie, I feel so bad for your son. It must be so difficult for a teenager and the parents as well. Have you ever heard of NAET? If you think abilify was the trigger for the vocal, you can treated it with NAET to desentized the body from reacting to it. I don't have much time to write more on NAET becuz i am studying for my final. You can find my past posts on NAET. Good luck! Pat

Congratulations Carolyn, It is good to see that mom & baby are doing well! Pat

i have been using elderberry extract at the first sign of cold, sore throat, cough and it has been very effective for me. It stops the illness from progressing. At the first sign of illness, the key is to take higher dosage & more frequent for a 2/3 days. elderberry is antiviral and not antibacterial. i also give it to my kids on a maintainence dose in winter & spring to keep the immune system strong. pat

ilovedog, i would follow the advise of your ND. BTW, what does he recommend at this point. i know you can use GSE topically & internally. for an externally wound, i would think it may be better to apply it topically. i believe you must dilute the GSE and not put drops on the wound becuz it will burn. elderberry extract is antivirus, so it is very good for colds if it is viral. pat

ilovedog, it is hard to say if ledum is the correct remedy for you because you had the wound awhile ago, and your state, and signs & symptoms may have changed. also, for acute cases, it is important to match the potency to your vital force, so you may need a higher potency like a 200C or higher which you can't obtain from your local health food store. if the potency is not strong enough, it may work for a short while and stops working. for something serious like a poisonous stingray, i would consult a homeopath or take the antibiotic as suggested by your ND. i wonder if grapefruit seed extract would work in this case?! grapefruit seed extract can be used to eradicate strep, so that may be an option for you. Pat

ilovedog, i have just studied the 2 remedies, Ledum & Hypericum from my school. for acute injuries fr puncture wound from sharp instructmts, poisonous bites & stings (insets, dogs, snakes), you would use Ledum to prevent tetanus shoot. now, if you don't find relieve from it, then you can use hypericum to avoid tetanus & lock jaw. the symptoms that lead you to use hypericum is shooting upward nerve pain. however, there are also other remedies that can be used after ledum depending on your symptoms. from what i learned, if ledum is prescribed correctly, you can avoid the shoot because the remedy can replace it. there is no point in taking the remedy & getting a shoot. or if you decided to get the shoot, i would not take the remedy because that would be unnecessary. i am not giving advise, just want to pass on the info from what i know. hope this is helpful. CP, Were you doing NAET? Becuz it helps my son w/ his nasal allergies. I am sure you wrap your mattress, pillow, using a hepa... If your son is having strep, try grapefruit seed extract. Did your son had a rapid & culture done? Pat

CP, what kind of allergy symptoms does your son have, both indoor & outdoor? zytec is a pretty strong medicine. my son tried it a few years ago, but didn't seem to make much difference. he was also on singulair and it messed up his bowel, it took me over a year to get his bowel normal again. most of these allergy medicine made my son dry up. Benedryl is probably the most begnin of all the allergy medications. I would try that first. my kids have been on local raw honey within 5 miles of our home, and it seems to help w/the allergies. i also give them elderberry extract daily. our ND recommended qucertin, but have not try it. probiotic also helps w/allergies. i think your son is on it, right? myrose, my son came down w/strep about 3 weeks ago. he was on amox. for 10 days. 6 days after he finished his antibiotic, his strep symptoms came back, low grade fever, cold sweat, dizzy, nausea, headache, neck pain and eyepain. i thought he had a relaspe, so i told him in for a rapid strep test and it was neg. today we got the culture result and also negative. i am wondering if you can have strep w/both rapid & culture tested negative? my son's pediatrician said if he is not better by this wed., i will need to take him in for a blood test for mono. In the meantime, i am giving him probiotic, elderberry extract for antivirus and grapefruit seed extract for antibacteria. i have found elderberry extract pretty effective for our family. it shorten the duration of the illness and stops it in its track from progressing. also, it is good for allergies. Pat

Abbe, i am curious about your dr who prescribes homeopathic remedy and also does acunpunture. homeopathy & acunpuncture are both energetic modalities and while one is on homeopathic remedy, he can not be treated w/acupuncture because it would antidote the effect of homepathic remedy. what is FNG? is it a combination homeopathic remedy? Pat

Hi all, I am mostly on the tics/tourette board and am not too famililar w/PANDA protocols. My son came down w/strep this week for the first time, so he is on amoxicillin. Questions: 1. when should i have him retest for "strep" after the full course of antibiotics? I don't want to do it too soon and have a false negative. 2. if my son tested positive for strep after amox., do i ask for another antibiotic? what is the antibiotic of choice at this time? 2. my son has been ticcing since 3 yrs ago, and has very minimal & infrequent tics now. since he has strep, does it mean he can be PANDA? 3. can someone with tics/TS come down w/"strep" and not PANDA? 4. what is a good probiotic to give while on antibiotics? there are so many different strains?! are there particular good bacterias that i should consider? pls help! thx you so much! Pat

I agree w/ Tami. Be selective and go slow. If i knew what i know now, i would not have agreed to that many shots. I wish the drs. would of told me that vaccination is an option. Pat

Kim, My son did not have any behavior or tic change. Pretty normal. In fact, his tics are few and far in between. However, when he got sick with strep, he had a bad neck pain and it triggered his neck tic, like a neck roll to release tension. After given motrin, it decrease the pain and so did the neck roll. After seeing my son's pediatrician, she prescribed amox. I got it in pills that are dye free and we started last nite. And i spoke to my son's ND this morning, and she told me we can treat it w/o antibiotic but other natural substances that contain antibacterial materials. I will consider that route next time. In the meantime, my son's ND advise to be on probiotic along w/ antibiotics. Did your sons' tics flare up with antibiotics and/or probiotics? If so, does it resolve eventually? I am just worry sick not knowing what will happen!! Also, i am wondering if my son's tics may be due to strep. It has been 3 yrs since he started ticcing. How do i go about figuring this out if he is PANDA? Your help is greatly appreciate it! Pat
