Hi all, My son got sick yesterday and i took him to see a dr. today and strep was confirmed. The dr. prescribed amoxicillin at 250 mg, 4X a day for the next 10 days. I have never given antibiotic to my son before. I am concern & worry what the amox will do to his tics. Can amoxicillin aggravate his tics? And when is the best time to give him probiotic when he is on antibiotic? I have read it on this forum but i have to run to get his prescription before it closes and need to decide what to do tonite, so i need some answers fast! Thx for all your help! Pat

patty replied to shydee75's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
ilovedog, my son has environmental allergies too. how much qucertin are you giving your son (pls provide your son's age & weight)? i am giving my son elderberry extract because it boosts the immune system, antifungal and has qucertin, but i don't think the qucertin in the elderberry extreact is enough for allergies. Thx! Pat -

san70, Have you tried the magnesium creme from Kirkman? I found that helpful for neck tics. Apply the creme to the neck area. Also, you may want to consider chirop to realign the neck. Acupuncture can also reduce neck tic and pain. If you son is afraid of the needles. You can ask for the seed stickers instead of the needles. Craniosacral can also be very helpful and it is the least invasive therapy. If it is really painful. You may want to give him some pain reliever in the meantime. Hope the neck tic wean soon. Pat -
IMO, i would reconsider habit reversal therapy just because TS or tics is not a habit. It is an involuntary movement disorder. I think the therapy would cause your child to have more awareness of his issues and cause more stress if he does not find the therapy helpful. Have you tried acupuncture, chiropractic or craniolsacral therapy...? On this board, quit a few of us find acupuncture fast acting and helpful in reducing tics. Pat

melanie, I don't think vit C is a trigger. However, when i first supplement vit C to my son, he did have an increase and it did go away. My initial reaction linked the waxing with vit C. After that incident, he did not seem to have a problem with it. So my guess is that, either he was waxing or the initial increase caused aggravation then subsided. I have been researching alot about vit D and am interested in giving it to my son to boost his overall immune system since he has allergies. Did your child get a blood test to determine the level of deficiency to determine his appropriate intake? Can you tell me your child's age, weight and how much vit D is he/she taking? Thx a million! Pat

I have been a frequent reader on Dr. Mercola's website. I think he is a good source of info. and his info is a good addition to your research. However, haven't try any of his products. I am interested in getting a shower filter tho. Myrose, can you give me more info regarding Dr. Mercola's shower filter. Is it easy to install? and effective? How often do you have to change the filter? Does he also sell a filter for bath? Thx! Pat

airbucket, I don't remember your son's age. Since your son has been tic-free for about a year until now. If you have not done anything new & different. Maybe it is a waxing cycle due to puberty. The stomach tic you described sounds more like something else. Hope your Dan dr. helps. Pat

Q's mom, What homeopathic remedy did you give your son for detox? And is your son on a chronic homeopathic remedy for his tics? I am interested in using homeopathy in treating tics as well as other ailments. Thx! Pat

I have not used SAMe but i would look for another brand that doesn't have any color dye. Color dye in any form is not good for anyone. Pat

If you are concern about the cholrine in the pool. I would shower immediately and soak in epsom bath to detox. I know it is so hard to relax not knowing what the triggers may be, esp on your vacation. Just bring all the things you need with you. Most likely, the cholrine may not even be a problem. Pat

We also find that acunpuncture helps with tic reduction. We did acunpuncture then follow with cupping in one office visit. My son has a fear for needles, so i wonder if cupping alone is enough. Did your son did cupping or both? Patty

How long do I follow Dr orders, when tics are returning?
patty replied to Tracey111's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
CSP, We follow Chinese medicine, so YES ice-cream or anything cold or frozen is not good for our system iff we have it daily and esp to those who are weak to it. Any diary is mucus forming, so ice-cream is a double no-no. Pat -
Fedup, You said your tics have been relatively mild and does not change much over the years. I am wondering if something has changed in your life, like medications, environment, stress .... that may trigger the tics to increase. If you have food and or environmental allergies, i would start looking in that direction and consider NAET for allergy desensitization. In the meantime, avoid artificial anything in food, MSG, preservatives and additives. Also stay dust free & dustmites free as much as possible and see what happens. Pat

Itsme, Are you still doing NAET? Do you think your child is better from it? Pat

Hey Caroyln, It is good to hear from you. Hope all is going well with your pregnancy other than the tic. I wish i have something to offer. Regarding the cupping. Do you only do cupping and no acunpuncture? And how frequent? As i am interesting in doing that for my son. Does cupping help with vocal, motor and facial tics? Thx! Pat

patty replied to Caryn's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
thx for the article Caryn. i will pass on this info to others as i am an advocate to eliminate dyes as much as possible in children. more people need to be more aware of what we are consuming and the effects of dyes in kids. Pat -
Abbe, Sulphur is one of the most often presribed remedies because it covers a wide range of symptoms and just about everyone at some point in their lifes exhibit sulphur symptoms. In homeopathy, the remedy that cause the signs & symptoms in a healthy person is also the same remedy that can cure the sick with the same signs & symptoms. Please do not be confused that if your body is deficient in sulphur that you would take a sulphur remedy. It woud cause more harm than good. In regard to the tics. I would think that if it is the correct constitutional remedy with the proper potency, it would reduce tics, as it would cure other diseases. Pat
