What is neurotypical? pat

CP, One of the reasons i switched from NAET to Bioset because it can test and treat more things in one OV and no 25 hrs avoidance period. The avoidance period was very stressful for myself and my son. Yes, allergy desensitization is very slow. We have been at it for 2 years, but not constantly. I do most of it during the summer, then it spread it out. So far we did treated 40/50 items via NAET and 20 or so items via Bioset. With kids, it is such a delicate balance between dr appts, diet restriction and their school and activities. We average at least 1 dr. appt a week. It burns me out but i tried to make it fun for my son. On our way to the dr, i would stop off somewhere fun for a treat or get alittle something for him. Since we don't watch TV until the weekend, if my son's is really upset about seeing the dr., i would offer him a 15 minute TV/computer time on a school day. Since all our dr. appts are across town and often get stuck in traffic, i let him listen to audio books or music that he likes or give him a travel game to play with. And you know what is really helpful. I try to explain to my son that the dr. appts are to help him with his allergies so he doesn't have to see them when he gets older. And that it takes alot of effort on my part to take him, so if i am not complaining, he shouldn't either. And be grateful that you have a mom that love you so much to find the very best drs. That always seems to change my son's attitude quickly. Pat

Felt Compelled To write...TICS are STILL GONE!
patty replied to myrose's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Wow dominque, what an amazing recovery story! I am so glad to hear you found help for your son and he is doing well. Parents never cease to amaze me what they are willing to do & give up for their kids! Pat -
Good question, i am interest to know as well. I often times wonder if my son was affected by the outrageous number of shots! Pat

Michelle, There are a couple of things that bothers me. First, the parent should not be subing in her own child's class due to favoritism and conflict of interest. Second, again the parent should not be teaching or subbing in the same school of her child due to favoritism from administrators and teachers and conflict of interest. I understand your feeling & concerns. When it comes to your child's illness, it is a very private matter that you don't want to share with others because you don't want to incriminate your child with prejustice. I volunteer in my kids school alot. Unless your child have some obvious tics, believe me no one notice. With one teacher to 20 or more kids, the teacher can bearly have enough one on one time. I don't remember you child's age, but most boys are so active and goofy, it just seems like the norm. It is always hard to be the new kid/parent in school. Perhaps getting to know other parents at school & form your own support group may be helpful. It will help build security for you & your child. I have been at my son's school for 4 years now, and i find that most parents are very sympathic & understanding to kids illnesses. I find that most parents do not talk about kids' illnesses but talk about parents who don't have good parenting skills. In fact, we have a pretty close friend who's child is in IEP due to learning disablity and some behavior issues and it never stop me or other people from hanging around his child. Instead, we are more patient with him and make sure our kids do not pick on him in any way. In fact, his parents are very open about their child's issues. We never thought it was an issue. And if you feel your son's tics are obvious and noticeable, then you might as well be open about it. Because everyone will notice sooner or later. I think others will be accepting & understanding of your child if you seem OK with it. I hope this does not sound harsh or insensitive. I have been at this for 21/2 years, and one of the things i am learning is acceptance. Here is an idea, how about going on a family vacation for a few days until your child's teacher return?! Pat

CP, I definitely think tics can be related to facial sensory issues. If my son's lips are dry at the corner of his mouth, it causes a mouth tic. If his nose is bothered by allergy, he twitches his nose. You mentioned your son has a stuffy nose, i would look into allergies. It could be food or environmental. Since you are doing NAET, once you clear his food allergies some environmental issues will either decrease or eliminated. My son's nasal allergies improved when food sensitivities were treated. My son's bioset practitioner found some cranium nerves on the face that aren't in balance and feels that contribute to his facial tics. However, we have not treat it yet. I will post about that when we do. IMO, i think your son's allergies, either food or environmental is the underlying problem with his vocal. So if you treat the cause of the stuffy nose, the vocal may resolve. Pat

Hi all, My son has not had asthma for 21/2 years since we started NAET. However, this July when he was exposed to trees at his summer camp, it spiked his facial tics and started coughing the same day. He has been coughing for almost 2 months now. In the meantime, we treated various trees, lung & kidney meridans and he is still coughing. However, the facial tics stopped after the trees were treated via Bioset. I scheduled an appt with my son's pediatrician, i am afraid he will prescribe albuterol or antibiotic for the lingering cough because i don't know if these medications may have an impact on his tics. Also, if my son's cough is not allergy or asthma related. I am wondering if this is a tic cough?! Your feedback is appreciated. Pat

Welcome, Sorry that i don't know much about using medication and supplement. But i would like to suggest craniosacral therapy to you since it has helped my son alot with the head/neck tic. According to your post, your son's tics are minimal, why did you decide to use clonidine? Have you tried using magnesium creme on the neck for the head movement? I find this also helpful for my son. Good luck! Pat

Yes, i feel probiotic is good for the immune system. But be careful of the "die-off" effect. My son is sensitive to most of the supplements that was recommended by his ND. When he took probiotic, it spiked his tics and had new tics. However, the tics did subside after about a month of discontinuing the probiotic. Pat

Mary, Please take that man's comment with a grain of salt. Afterall he is not a medical professional! What really get me mad is that he said it is the mother's fought for your son's condition. We as parents should not feel guilty for our children's tics, because it is out of our control, but we still secretly do, at least i can say that for myself. So for him to say those insensitive things to you, is like pouring salt in your wound and so not productive. We can't change the tics, but we can help alleviate the tics and hope for the best. Pat

Thx Debbie & Claire, I am thinking about taking my son to see his pediatrian. I am pretty sure he will prescribe antibiotic for the cough, if not albuterol. I am wondering if these medications may cause the tics to spike?! My son has a HEPA in his room and I have been trying everything that i can think of to give my son for his cough, so far nothing has helped! Also, he does not cough at nite. And the cough seems to get worst in area with lots of trees & pollens. Is a cough tic uncommon? I don't recall too many on this board post about this. Pat

Debbie1, Thx for your input. Your dd's story's very similiar to my son. Before my son's onset of tics, he used to cough months at a time (3/4 mos). Because he had asthma & nasal allergies, his pulmonogist prescribed flonase and flovent. My son was on it for 1/1/2 mos w/o any improvement, so i decided to stop. That was about 3 yrs ago. Did your dd cough sound just like a regular cough? And what did you do to stop the tic cough? Thx for your input. Pat

Since my son got bad allergy from his outdoor camp this mid July, he started with a mucus cough and open mouth tic. He was treated via Bioset for the eucalyptus tree and the mouth tic went away. However, his stuffy nose, sneezing and cough did not go away. About 2 weeks later, stuffy nose and sneezing went away. Now the mucus cough has become a dry cough that won't go away. It sounds just like a regular cough. Before my son's acute onset of tics, he used to cough months at a time after he gets a cold. Can this be tic or allergy? Do any of your kids have lingering cough? If it is allergy, how do you treat it? Thx! Pat

No drowsiness here either, but i only give my son 1/4 tsp about twice a week. How about just giving it to your child at bedtime? Pat
-
Debbie, Right before your son's outburst of tics, can you remember what environment he is exposed to, where he was at or what did he eat? If your son is not PANDA, then you may want to consider food or environmental allergies. Things are hard, but you will get thru it. Be strong and good luck! Pat

ifran, As for me, i started to relax more when my son's symptom is under control and that i have a better handle on it. We have been at this for 21/2 years now and have figured out some of his triggers and know how to treat it. But really, i still stay vigliance about his diet and allergy issues because i want his immune system to heal and out grow this. Pat
-
I shared the same experience you do in the beginning. I couldn't pinpoint any triggers and the triggers changes. However, as we started various treatments, the tics slowly got less and less and also became stable. IMO, if your child has allergies & asthma i would aimed at allergy desensitization and other modalities that relax the nervous system. Pat

CP, Great new!!! The improvement cannot come at a better time for your son. I am so happy for your family! Pat

Thx Chemar for your input. What you are suggesting is the next area that i am thinking of exploring, along with strep and other bacteria. Pat

betty04, my son can not take fish oil as it spikes his tics. the tics spikes as soon as i dose. Pat

Thank you all for responding and with great advice. At this point, things are hard at times, but it is tolerable, so i am not considering med at this time, as i think it may add another layer of issue to my son's immune & nervous system. I was hoping to see what others are doing using alternative modalities, and find insight in sensory issues that may link to his defiance issues. I am hoping with behavior modification and maturity that he can be the glass half full. My emphasis has always been aimed at my son's overall being as a way of treating his tics and not so much at treating the tics itself. I think by getting to the core issue, it will bring his body in balance and will help with his tics. Pat

Footballguy, Are you the same footballguy from Arizona State? Just want to make sure so i can recommend a modality that may work for you. Pat

CP, My son has taken a compounded chinese herb from his acunpuncturist. Just make sure the pills come from a reputatble manufacturer. IMO, stay away from the actual herbs becasue it is hard to determine if it has any toxic substances. What kind of chinese herb can lower dopamine? Since you are doing NAET with your son, i would recommend you have his dopamine rebalance via NAET, it is much safer than to take herbs. My son had his dopamine and other neurotransmitters rebalanced via Bioset and did not have adverse effects. The thing i like about NAET & Bioset, if it doesn't work, it does not cause a spike in symptoms. However, there might be a slight & temperary aggrevation from NAET due to the 25 hrs. clearance period. Pat

Brad Cohen's story to air on TV
patty replied to powerofprayer's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
guy123, Excess or overly stimulated dopamine can be one of tic triggers, but not always a tic trigger. For example, when my son was waxing with facial tics, we treated dopamine and other neurotransmitters and it pretty much did nothing for him even he was off balance via bioset testing. In my son's case, his environmental allergies is one of his tic triggers. When he was waxing with facial tics, it was due to douglas fir and eucalyptus trees. Once these trees were treated, the facial tic went away. With allergy desensitization, if you can figure out the exact trigger, the result is miraclous because it is so immediate! You mentioned your eye tic started when you started allergy shots. Do you have a history of what shots you had? If you can trace it back to the beginning, i would urge you to treat these shots via NAET or Bioset, even if you tested out not sensitive, because in treating my son for the last couple of years., i learned that muscle or biomeridan testing can still miss what the body is sensitive to. Sorry, i don't have that lady's number anymore. She is someone i met thru a preschool teacher at the time and i have lost touch with her. Good luck. Keep looking you will find your answers. Pat -
Brad Cohen's story to air on TV
patty replied to powerofprayer's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
guy123, I didn't ask what kind of medication her kids' are on, since i wasn't interested in that direction. However, she did say 2 of her kids' tics are minimal due to medication with minor side effects. And one of her kids' tics has increased while on the same med. Apparently, the med is not working like it used to. The way i understand it, when dopamine is in excess or overly stimulated, it can trigger tics. In fact, you can treat this imbalance via NAET & Bioset. NAET is an energetic allergy desensitization. You hold the allergent in a vial in one hand while the practitioner clear your various acunpuncture points. The idea is to clear restrictions within ones meridian so the next time you come in contact with this allergent, you body will not react to it. And bioset is a spin off of NAET. IMO, it is more accurate, because instead of using muscle testing to find out one's allergies, it uses a biomeridan machine, and it can test many things in one office visit. Another plus, bioset does not have an avoidance period. When one is treated via NAET, there is a 25 hrs. avoidance period for that particular allergent. For ex., if you were treated for wheat, then you cannot eat or touch it for 25 hrs., otherwise your treatment will not hold and need to do it again. Pat
