Hallucinations, RADON?
bws1565 replied to searching_for_help's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
Would relocating her for a short time to a different place be an option? Suppose you go on vacation for a week, and see the difference. Wondering about Canary in the Coalmine as well...... My daughter claims to have an EMF sensitivity and is having trouble in the workplace, with anxiety, headaches etc being triggered by it. No one else in the place is having this trouble. Wondering about it. Any input? (I ordered a toumarline (sp?) necklace from Amazon to neutralize this energy, but still..... And what else can we do? Avoidance of cell phones and computers are not really an option...- 5 replies

After years of strep you will need a blood test, not a throat swab. You should look for ASO Strep Titers, and DNAse B (strep antibodies). If both are high, and you have not had a recent strep, this would be indicative of Pandas. There has been some speculation, including on this forum, that aluminum toxicity can cause high strep titers to cross the blood brain barrier, and thereby causing PANDAS. Dr. Horowitz recommends Malic Acid Chelate for Aluminum removal, and Selenium for mercury; if these might be a problem.

Supplements causing flare or something else?
bws1565 replied to MountainMom's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
I have posted this before, but it bears merit to repeat. Sometimes even though the supplements are good, and detox well, some kids cannot handle it. If the body is not getting rid of the released toxins fast enough, you will get serious issues (like what you mentioned before). I will refer to my grandfather, when in the hospital with severe liver disease, and talking a lot of nonsense, the doctors gave him an enema. As soon as his colon cleansed, he was back to normal, mentally. With our kids, we might no know how stressed their digestive systems, and as a result, their livers are. Making sure that they have a bowel movement AT LEAST ONCE A DAY is a must! Some kids might need more. You will see the difference immediately. I know I have. You can use enemas if necessary, but gentle colon cleansing is probably better. -
My DD is a pretty OK place now, but this is a new one. She is complaining about ElectroMagnetic Sensitivity. She claims to have a problem using her cell phone, or computers. Even Fax machines. We showed her Wikipedia on this that this an imaginary ailment. Meanwhile she is making a big deal and refusing to have anything to do with computers or cell phones. This is really affecting her life. Does her complaint have any merit? (We are choosing to ignore this saying we have no idea what this is all about)

Mountainmom regarding cortisol; they could be elevated at night and normal during the day, causing insomnia. Regarding a daylight lamp, I have used it for help with getting up in the morning. It did help, alot. We have not used it for getting to sleep at night.
-
You might want to check his cortisol levels. If they are elevated at night it could be keeping him awake. How is his energy during the day? If cortisol levels are low in the morning he would be extremely tired then. This problem, linked to the adrenal glands, is remedied with an adrenal support. (Vitamin C, healthy salts etc) Another suggestion that might be worthy to try is using a daylight therapy lamp in the morning to reset circadian rhythms.

What is the full name of this dr. and what is his/her specialty? I live in NYC as well.

Has anybody ever tried parenting with the Alfred Adler method? I've heard it has helped many people get rid of seriously problematic issues in their kids. I am taking a course in this now, wondering if anybody has any knowledge about this.

Does your PANS/PANDAS kid get the flu shot?
bws1565 replied to JSL25's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
OK, 70% ineffective.......:) Mega doses of Vitamin D really works against flu, for protection and severity. -
Does your PANS/PANDAS kid get the flu shot?
bws1565 replied to JSL25's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
I have heard that the flu shot is only effective 10% this year. Is that enough of a protection to put you at ease, with its possible risks? -
What is the likelihood of a childhood trauma creating Pandas like behaviour? Thinking back to the timeline of our onset, I recently had an epiphany, that I watched the Twin Towers burning and falling, with DD in my arms. She was 2.3 yrs old at the time, but I also remember seeing our pediatrician and complaining that this child really changed. Although our PANS diagnosis came much later, I am sure that this is linked. Input??

In the Lyme community it is known that antibiotic are the short "long route"; meaning that although there might be some immediate relief, there is usually a problem with borellia cysts, meaning that the spirochete would hide in a shell and come out again when antibiotics are stopped. There are many different approaches to dealing with this. Either switching antibiotics every 30 days, or taking several at a time. Here in NYC, I have seen several LLMD's switching over to the more natural approach. That would involve herbs and other supplements in trying to get the body to fight the Lyme. This is the longer "short route". It might take longer to see results but they are usually more permanent. I would suggest guidance to get the correct supplements. However, if money is an issue, you might want to try the Buhner protocal for Lyme and Bartonella (you can find a book about this on amazon) or others can chime in with their suggestions as well.

Doxy, Lyme, Babesia, Bartonella
bws1565 replied to cobygurl's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
Doxycycline should not be given to a child whose permanent teeth are not all in (it adversely affects teeth development). If I am not mistaken 9 is the earliest it could be given. For Lyme, amoxicillin is the next best choice; and for young children it is the first choice. Grapefruit seed extract given together with antibiotics would keep the biofilm from forming. -
Hi, If you are positive to Bartonella, know that bart in itself can cause symptoms that you are explaining, even if there is no lyme involved. I don't know where you are located, but a LLMD would be the correct choice. Antibiotics alone are not the answer. Lyme/Bart is a difficult disease to test for, and treat.

HIB (haemophilus influenzae type b)
bws1565 replied to jep1978's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
Was your kid vaccinated for HIB? Vaccine viruses generally are bound to an aluminum adjuvent to keep the attenuated disease in the kids body and the antibody level high. There has been some speculation on this forum that the ALUMINUM is what causes the Pandas in our kids...... If this is the case, I would do a mud bath to detox the aluminum which would cause the bound disease level to drop. It would also take away to protection from the vaccine though. -
I was wondering if anybody would know, or have any experience with this learning program designed to help with all kinds of processing issues. I have heard people having good success with this (Program is based in Idaho, and is supposed to turn around kids lives) We are dealing with stuff that a neuropsychologist said just to live with.

Suspecting PANDAS, not sure where to start?
bws1565 replied to taraph's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
.Yes, I would give the Blis K12, even if swab is negative. You have nothing to lose; and possibly everything to gain. -
Pityriasis and Pans/Pandas Link?
bws1565 replied to JsMom2014's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
Here goes interesting....... Approximately ten years ago DD18 has a purplish streaky rash which the dr diagnosed as pityarisis. It disappeared after 4 weeks, and I thought nothing of it. It was on this forum that I found out several years later that a purplish streaky rash is bartonella, and that led us to the correct diagnosis. DD9 is coming from the dr. office now, with a diagnosis of pityarisis......... It does NOT look that purplish rash we had a long time ago. It would rather be mistaken for chicken pox without the head. Either there are several types, or the first doctor misdiagnosed. Either way, I read online that people who have pityarisis rashes should be evaluated for dormant viruses, bacteria or lyme. -
Pityriasis and Pans/Pandas Link?
bws1565 replied to JsMom2014's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
My DD was diagnosed with pityarisis way before we ever heard of PANS. Looking back, we realized that the red purplish streaky rash was indeed a Bartonella rash. This indicated that we were dealing with Lyme/Bartonella and not Pandas at all. The rash disappeared on its own after about 4 weeks. -
Interestingly, for us removing the focus of "eating" was the best treatment. I think that as long as I wanted to make DD eat well and have her be healthy, she used food as a means of getting our utmost attention. My tactic of ignoring what she eats, just making sure that she has good food available and letting her pick her own choices worked best. By today, I don't even seriously serve her anything. She is old enough to buy and prepare her own foods, or serve herself of what I cooked for the rest of the family. Once the focus was removed I was stunned when she started liking foods she previously disliked, and eating lots of healthy good food. She is now a health food freak, and this is not coming from me. (Perhaps even to the point of obsession....but I will not focus on that either ) Your are not mentioning your child age. If he is young enough, this might not be relevant, but DD18 started this when she was about 4!

Suspecting PANDAS, not sure where to start?
bws1565 replied to taraph's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
I would start with a throat swab, and abx if positive. I would also highly recommend Blis K12 from the company NOW. It is a oral probiotic that would crowd out the strep bacteria from the oral cavity. My kids like the taste..... and their behavior is much better while on it. I know someone whose kids really did so much better tic wise with this vitamin. -
Anti-DNase B Strep high, but no treatment?
bws1565 replied to JSL25's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
How were her strep titers? Anti DNAseB measures the antibody. -
Supplement Malic Acid works to clear aluminum from the body.

I have been advised by a doctor to give my son, who presented with thyroid irregularity, 200mcg selenium to help with iodine absorption. I also gave it to DD with Pans ONCE. She has reacted to it with sweating, insomnia and difficulty speaking for 2 days. Although it is over, and I think she is better than before, I would like to get input here. Selenium is known to be a mild mercury chelator. While this is a good thing, I think her reaction was to circulating mercury, which hopefully got out by now. Question is: Should we continue giving this, if the immediate results are no good, for the long term good? Has anybody had any experience with this particular supplement and these reactions?
