  1. Yes, magnesium can cause loose bowel, so use a lesser dose. Pat
  2. Good luck! Hope all goes well w/your son. Pat
  3. deby, My son used to have a vocal tic when he was read to, so i don't think that is uncommon. I suspect that reading is a stimulation. Sorry that your son is going thru this. I would ignore the tic because as we know, it is involuntary. Too much attention to the tics just creates anxiety and indirectely may cause more tics. It is important for him to read and enjoy reading and try to continue with his normal routine. Have you tried epson baths and magnesium to calm the nervous system? Or try have him read in the bath tub while soaking in epsom bath to see if it makes a difference on the tics. Pat
  4. ilovedog, Glad to hear that the tics are gone when the spacers are taken out! I am curious as to why your son has spacers for 3 years w/o braces? Spacers are inserted between teeth a week prior to putting the braces on. The spacers create room for the braces to mount on the teeth. Pat
  5. CP, We are starting orthodontic work for my son next week. I really am hoping for the best. Unfortunately, my son has a severe underbite, crossbite and a rotated tooth that prevents him from biting down properly. I am not doing this to fixed his tics/ocd (due to the TMJ & tic connection). I am doing it to prevent jaw surgery down the line and to have functional teeth for chewing. My father in law had locked jaw due to his underbite in his early twenties. Pat
  6. CSP & Ilovedog, Thx for your feedback and support. I can really use it! I have been so stress about my son lately, i have severe anxiety attacks as soon as i get up. Have been taking magnesuim and is alleviating some of my discomfort. I just don't know how much more of this my body can take. I just wish that the tics/ocd thing goes away one day as sudden as it came 41/2 years ago. Pat
  7. CSP, Thx for your reply. Do you mean that the braces aggravated his tics but it did wane over the course of 2 yrs? I have been loosing sleep over my son's orthodontic treatment. We started w/a dentist who is awared of TMJ & tics connection and has an alternative approach early this year and it spiked his tics & OCDs! Decided to stop treatment becuz i did not feel comfortable w/the dentist. I just pray that everything works out. I am hoping for the best! Pat
  8. Chemar, Thx for your feedback. Unfortunately, my son's underbite is so bad that he will require surgery. He inherited that from my husband side of the family. My father in law had lock jaw in his early teens and couldn't open his mouth. Also, the underbite is affecting his speech and the crossbite is causing him to bite his cheek while eating. Only if it is less problematic, i would say just leave it alone. Pat
  9. I am so sick and tired of worrying about everything i do that may aggravate my son's tics or OCD i just want to scream and cry! Our last orthodontic experience caused a flair up, so i am even more worry the 2nd time around. If my son does not have a severe underbite, a pretty bad crossbite and a croaked tooth that is rotated 90 degress, i would leave it alone. The fear of the unknown is giving me anxiety. So pls if you have any comments, pls let me know. Thx! Pat
  10. Happy b-day Aiden! Congrat on your graduation & new job! Thx for sharing the great pics and you are an inspiration to me! Pat
  11. In addition to Epsom Bath, take magnesium from Natural Calm also helps w/sleep & relaxation & tics. Pat
  12. Thx for the info & update. So glad to hear your son is responding positively to the treatment! The treatment sounds similar to Bioset. It is a spinoff from NAET. I have tried it on my son & it caused havoc to his nervous system, and my son is sensitive to EMF, so i think that is part the problem which i have not considered. Just want to throw it out there. Pat
  13. Lynn, Welcome and i am so sorry that you are in a very sad place. I can relate as i have been in your shoes. My son has food/environmtal allergies and asthma. Here are the modalities that has worked for us. NAET for desensitization. Craniosacral for his neck tics in particular. Accupuncture for tics. It was very effective but my son cried when he got the needle so we had to stop. We also eat mostly organic and avoid all artificial anything & toxic chemicals. Basically, i do everything i can to not to aggravate his nervous system so he has a higher threshold. I have used epsom bath, magnesium creme, natural calm and they seem to help to reduce the tics. I hope this is helpful. Pat
  14. Chemar and other who have responded, Thx you so much for the distinction bet TOCD and OCD. You gave me the exact info that i am looking for. I have been reading "Freeing your Child From Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder" by Tamar Chansky and "What to do when your brain Get Stuck", a kid's guide to overcoming OCD. I see the compulsion part of OCD but not the Obsessive component such as fear, ritual..... And that's what lead me to ask the question so i know how to approach my son's compulsion. BTW, faith is exactly right. My son has not changed to PANDA status. I came on this board becuz most parents here are knowledgeable with OCD. Pat
  15. That makes me so sad! I hope you find your lima bean. Pat
  16. I am so sorry for how you are feeling. You can't blame yourself for what you don't know, esp when you are doing the best you know at the time. Your son is still young, there is time to reverse or modifiy his behavior. It will just take time. Pat
  17. Hi all, My son has some symptoms that i am not sure if it is OCD or tics or tics morphed into OCDs. I am trying to identify the problem so i can figure out if cognitive behavior therapy would be helpful for him. 1. turning the bathroom sink faucet on/off from left side to right side repeatedly (anywhere from 3 to 12X). He doesn't really know why he does it other than he feels the urge to do. And if i turn it off for him. He is compell to do it after me because he does not think i shut off the faucet completely and it is not done right. 2. saying "good nite mom" repeatedly at bed time (3 - 8X). 3. turning on/off the light switch as he walks by the hallway or any lighted room (1 to 2X). Most symptoms come and go, but the faucet has stayed consistently. Sometimes it is easier to stop the behavior (doing less repeatition), and sometimes it is harder to stop the behavior (10 - 12X). Thx! Pat
  18. stephanie2, What are the strep A probiotic names so i know what to look for? I always suspected that giving probiotic or coconut yogurt seems to spike my son's OCDs, but not certain as OCD wax & wane. Thx for the very interesting info on strep probiotics. Pat
  19. OMG! All of you took the words right out of my mouth! Since my son's illness, i feel like i have been critized for being uptight, paranoid, overreacting,.... No one understands why i do what i do! And because i share very little w/anyone mainly because no one take any interest, esp the immediate family and my son's symptoms are unnoticeable now (unless you know about tics and OCD), people think that i am one of those overreacting mothers that is going off the deep end. What others don't realized is that i work really hard to get my son to the point of unnoticeable symptoms and i am often exhausted by our strict routine at the end of the day, and not to mention the frequent dr appts. It is so frustrating not have anyone understand what i have to go thru. Over the years, i have developed some health issues, one of which is anxiety & depression and still my family still don't get it! I am angry, angry.... My only comfort is that my son is doing well and has come a long way! Pat
  20. Sadie10, I know exactly how you feel. My husband has no idea what is going on with our son nor does he care to find out, so all the burden is on me. This forum has been a God send because i can actually talk to someone who understand my concerns. It has been a very lonely road the last 4+ years, since my son started ticcing. The only good thing about my husband is that he does not complain about our medical expenses. Sorry for going on. I needed to vent too! Be strong and keep reading & researching on this forum. You will find answers! Pat
  21. ameecram, Many NP prescribes homeopathic remedy and are not classically trained homeopaths. Just want to make sure that the person who prescribed it knows what he/she is doing. What potency did you NP start with? Pat
  22. ameecram, Pulsitilla is a homeopathic remedy. Is this being prescribed by a classically trained homeopath? Pat
  23. graceunderpressure, Thx for your feedback and the info on quecertin. My son also has food & environmtal allergies. Any experience w/the use of quecertin increase tics or OCD for your child? I started w/250mg of quecertin on Sat and the next day, my son's old OCD symptom came back. Not sure if it is a coincident. He has been fighting off a cold/cough/allergy for the last 7 days. I am going to slowly increase the quecertin to 500mg a day. Our ND recommended to start w/1500 to 2000 mg a day. It seems high to me. So i will check w/her again. My son is 10 & about 72 pds. pat
  24. Thx Grace! I just started quercertin w/my kids today and bought Histamine take care by New Chapter which is stinging nettle. How long does it take for the D-hist to kick in when you start taking it? Also, what is the dosage that you use? Pat
  25. Have you tried epsom baths? The magnesium creme has worked really well for us if you apply it on the affected area. Take magnesium orally. Lastly, do deep breathing 3x a day, about 6X each incidence will help reset the body's nervous system. Pat
