nola, sorry to hear about your son's tics. what i have found that works for my son is NAET along w/a comprehensive lifestyle change. i found that my son's tics are allergy induced, so by desentizing the allergent (food or environmental), it eliminated the tic. if you search thru some of my old post, there is more info about NAET. Ugh, another one of my kids has started to tic
patty replied to mythree's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
mythree, sorry to hear that your other kid has some symptoms too. it could very well be temporary. in regard to your older daughter's OCD, my son has similiar issue. he started w/just tics, and i have seen some very minor OCDs that comes & go, then last summer, the OCD spiked. anyways, we had success w/NAET treating his tics, so we tried treating his OCD too. the OCD went away then came back when he started his orthod treatment. we did more NAET w/about 50% improvement, then i added inositol, B6 and a multivitamine and it seems to keep the OCDs under control. in addition, i also give him quercetin, vitD, juice plus to control his immflammatory response since my son also has allergies and asthma. i do believe that by controlling the inflammatory response & histamine it helps w/tics & OCD. hope this is helpful. -
Thank you all for your receipes. I will try it. Pat

Anyone has a delicious coconut ice cream receipe using coconut milk instead of dairy?

I am looking for a soy sauce replacement and came across Bragg's liquid aminos. Anyone has any experience w/it? possible tic trigger? I am already using Tamari. Thx! Pat

Nola, I can't speak for all, but my son, as well as others on this forum find that fish oil & probiotic aggravate tics. In my son's case, his vocal tic. The only way to eliminate my son's tic was treating it via NAET. Apple cider vinegar also triggered my son's vocal tic. My son can consume yogurt & kefir w/o problems. Pat

Wishing everyone peace, strength, health and happiness in 2011.

So sorry that your son's vocal tic is interfering w/his quality of life. I don't know much as about your son's supplements, but i know fish oil & mega dose of probiotic are big triggers for my son. Any change in his diet? Taking any medications? Perhaps, the increased in mold in winter may be another trigger. If your son has allergies & asthma, his tics may be very well related to it. Fixed the inflammation and you will see improvement. Hope that's helpful. Pat

bio Energetic Synchronization Technique(B.E.S.T.)
patty posted a topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
This is actually for myself. Due to my son's sudden onset of various tics, the stress has caused me many health issues and some are not resolving. The most problomatic is my right side chronic, neck, shoulder, upper back and arm pain. I have tried various modalities for the last few years, but nothing has resolve my pain. I am getting depress over it due to lack of sleep and lack of energy. Anyways, i spoke to a chirop who does BEST, it is a form of chiropractic adjustment but w/o the traditional manual manuipulation. He thinks i should try it because my pain was induced by stress and he thinks that i have emotional trauma that caused imbalance to my nervous system which cause me pain. If anyone have any feedback, i would really appreciated it! Patty -
i have a forgotton bottle of organic extra virgin, cold pressed, non-GMO coconut oil that is about 3 years old. Is it still good? Does it become rancid? i want to bake w/it this holiday. Thx!

That really put things in perspective for me, as i am stressing out over my son's minor OCD and worrying what will happen. Thx for sharing the story and i pray for your friend & her son. I can't imagine the pain she is going thru watching her son suffering. Pat

I don't know much about fundraising, but i can donate. I never even notice the home page "donate" option! ACN has been my safe haven. It offeres me hope, support, sanity & invaluable information. My son is doing well largely due to this forum. My deepest thank you to Sheila, Chemar & many others who keep this forum running! Pat

Belladonna is one of the most common fever medicine, but there are others. So i would check w/a qualified classically trained homeopath bef giving it to your son. Pat

Giulia, Thx for the reply. Have you tried Nasalcrom, OTC nasal spray. It doesn't work for everyone, but when it does, it works great and it is safe, not steriod or antihistamine. It is cromlyn sodium, same active ingredient as Intal. Pat

Hi & welcome, My son has allergies, asthma, tics and mild OCD started last summer. I do believe his underlining issues are due to inflammation. We have change our diet and treated him w/NAET to raise his threshold for various food/environmental allergies. We also treated some of his emotional issues. Now, he can have offending food in moderation w/o trouble. To control his inflammation, i am giving him quercetin to stop the histamine production. Recently, i have added inositol & B6(p-5-p) for his mild anxiety & OCDs, then later via research that B6 can also help w/asthma for broniodilation. To decrease oxidative stress and increase antioxidiants, i make sure he gets fruit & vegetable at lunch & dinner. Our ND also recommended Juice Plus gummies for that purpose. It should help w/cell regeneration, usu takes about 4 months. Also, he gets an occassion epsom bath for detox. He used to take it daily and it helped alot w/his neck tic. If epsom bath is too cumbersome, use a magnesium creme from Kirkman Lab. And of course, plenty of filter water, excercise, sleep and clean air. Pat

lele, i totally understand your stress, because my son has asthma too! And i know steriod is not good for his tics. And even albuterol can cause him to tic. Now, i am dealing w/his braces and it aggravates his OCD! the asthma & allergy really makes people w/tic, TS, OCD really difficult to deal with. i would add quercetin to your son's supplement. google it, not only does it block histamine, it also helps w/broniodilation. Also, it boosts your immune system. great stuff. we use Maxiflav from our ND. It is natural supplement that even pregnant mothers can take. Just remember, get a good brand, due to processing, not all quercetin is bioavailable. Sometimes, it takes a few tries to find out which brand works best for you. try not to get too stress as it will catch up to you. i have been at this for 5 years now and the stress is really taking a toll on my emotional & physical health, and i am constantly seeing various drs. for my issues. the journey may be long & difficult, but w/your effort, your son will get better. Pat

I find frequent dose of probiotic is at the first sign of fever and lots of water is very helpful. Hope he is better soon! Pat

what kind of antihistamin do you give your child? I am also trying to decrease his histamin. Pat

So glad to hear that your son is doing well and that you found the food & tics connection. My son also has mild OCD & tic OCDs(i believe) and i think the OCD is caused by histamin and low seretonin. Pat

Intal is a preventative asthma medication and it is cromolyn sodium and not a steriod. And it did not aggravate my son's tics. I am curious why your ped put your son on Singulair when he has an asthma attack? Singulair is a preventative medicine. When your son has an asthma attack, does he take a bronialdialator med like albuterol(it is not steroid? However, in my past experience, freq use of albuterol did aggravated my son's tics. Pat

When my son had his first onset of tics, his neurologist gave me a half sheet info on tics, and it made reference that it can be induced via stress and sometimes demanding mothers can cause it. OMG, i felt so guilty and felt it was all my fault and that was my son's way to tell me to back off. When my son was little, he had many issues that i didn't understand and why he was different, emotionally & socially. Also, he was a slow learner that had some funny quirks. I used to get so frustrated, i yelled and punished him often. Secretly, i was wondering why he is so odd but can never put a finger on it. For the longest time, i blamed myself, and then i blame my husband side's family bad genes, since there are immediate family members that have mental issues. Then i became angry and it was just awful. I still feel that my son's issues are inherited from my husband's family, but i don't dwell on it anymore, i just focus on how i can help my son. I guess what i am trying to say is that i totally understand. I spend years feeling guilty and angry, really it didn't do any good. Don't punish yourself by blaming yourself, you have important work to do now. Save that energy. Pat

There are also natural candies at WholeFoods & Trader Joes. I know it is difficult to be singled out from fun treats. I have been there w/my son. Pat

how many kids took flu shot in our forum
patty replied to lele's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
No flu shots here, children or adults. I think there is a flaw reasoning that flu shot will protect you from the flu. There are so many different strand of virus & they mutate. The flu shot contains the most common strand. What are the odds that you will catch the same strand as the flu shot?! Ever wonder why everyone's cold/flu symptoms are slightly different and some are not prone to colds/flus? Well, that's becuz we all have different immune systems and the same strand of virus manifests differently in everyone. So the key is to have a strong immune system to fight it off. I believe it is the best approach to prevent it than taking flu shots. My son had flu shots 2/3x and it didn't make any difference in him catching colds/flu. In retrospect, i often wonder if it contributed to his sudden onset of tics! To boost the immune system, eat a clean healthy diet(this would be different for everyone, as most of us here have kids w/food allergies), increase veg & fruit and decrease meat consumptions, avoid all baked, fried, dry, greasy, high heat (BBQ) cooking food, adequate sleep & excercise(outdoor preferred to get vitD), a good multi-vit, quercetin, probiotic, and take elderberry extract 1 week each month as an immune booster. Elderberry will loose its effectiveness if it is taking daily for a period of time. So use it appropriately. The idea behind quercetin & increase veg and fruit is to decrease histamine, since veg & fruit contains flavnoid (sp?). I find it esp helpful to increase quercetin at the first sign of cold. It stops it in its track. Eating meat & greasy food is taxing on the body becuz it is harder to digest. Save the energy for the immune system. Soup at this time of the year is very situable. I would recommend making soup using some kind of bone for added minerals. Pat -
Lele, Have you talk to your ped re: intal? It doesn't work for everyone, but when it does, it works well. Typically, when one has an asthma attack, you use albuterol & not steroid. Steriod doesn't stop the asthma attack, it is a preventive medicine. Also, singular does not work for everyone. If you tried it for awhile & no change, i would discontinued. My son was on Singular years ago, and it gave him constipation and it took me at least a year to get his bowel back to normal. pat
