New member and tics have gone crazy the past week
Chemar replied to Jamie89's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
welcome Jamie jmho but I think the clomifene may be your tic trigger, as it is changing your hormonal balances and this may be causing a change in your dopamine system When dopamine levels rise there is frequently an increase in tics for people with TS. So perhaps this is what is happening to increase yours? Stress, anxiety and illness are all potential tic triggers too, so it looks like your system is on overload! Perhaps you could ask your doctor to taper you off the clomifene and see if the tics stabilize? That would at least give you an indication of its role, and then leave you able to make the choice of whether you want to go back on it. Obviously this is a major decision that only your doctor can advise you on. -
any allergic reaction can increase tics.....Once the immune system is hyper-activated in the allergic response, it can trigger tics and other issues That really is why it is always a good idea to have testing done so that specific allergies can be identified and eliminated We were amazed at how the blood tests confirmed what we had learned from the transdermal & other "alternative" testing!

If you know the triggers should they be avoided?

If you know the triggers should they be avoided?
Chemar replied to Tiger's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Yes I do think that when triggers are clear and they are bothersome in the way they increase the tics, then avoid those things But always be careful that the child does not think they are being "punished" for ticcing and therefore losing certain things they like.....balance is key and being honest with kids can pay great dividends -
Hi Tiger if you go into your user profile settings, you can add a "signature" That is what shows in the grey panel under all your posts

Hi the problem with stopping a multi is what about the other important vitamins and minerals? Are you giving magnesium? Most people with Tourette tics seem to benefit from it As far as Vit C goes, there are many foods high in it and also numerous pure supplemental forms. Rose hips are a good source too

Some people have found l-carnitine helpful short term for vocal tics. When my son had a screeching tic, he was given 500mg l-carnitine daily for a month and it really helped. Some take it for longer periods. Inositol is very helpful to many for OCD, but I am not sure if your child has that? Psychiatrists usually just prescribe drugs so I am not sure you would be helped much by seeing one. Psychologists trained to do Cognitive Behavioral Therapy can often help with tics and OCD

Hi and welcome given the possible PANS dx I would really advise posting on our forum for it as the parents there are very clued up http://latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showforum=17

Placement of the needles is very important in that they need to calm those areas where the tics are centered, not stimulate them But some people have reported a herx like reaction so get a bit worse inititially and then improve.

Oh dear! Does the therapist have experience using acupuncture for tics/TS?
-
It seemed to help my son all round Our acupuncture therapist does do additional things simultaneously if needed, like reflexology and Chinese cupping, aromatherapy, biofeedback (NOT neurofeedback) etc and so much of that was also helping But my son felt a calming of tics with that first needle placement in his scalp and then progressively so with each one.

My son always had great relief from his tics and OCD with acupuncture

Lifeway Kefir not telling the truth - article
Chemar replied to TeamTyrion's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
perhaps she is affiliated with another rival company? Lifeway stands to lose a lot by making false claims and not telling the truth aboput their product labelling and ingredients could shut them down. So risking their business for something like this just is not what I think they would do...... jmho but at the end of the day, only they and she know who is telling the truth and who is not I guess. -
help with 5 year old sons tics/tourettes
Chemar replied to n123's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi there with all this being preceeded by the illness I would really recommend investigating a possible PANS (not necessarily PANDAS) cause? The parents on our other forum may be able to give you some insight and perhaps there are members there in the UK as well. http://latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showforum=17 I also really recommend getting Sheila's book as it has a wealth of helpful info on ways to help with tics, nomatter what the actual diagnosis is http://latitudes.org/store/tics-tourettes-book/ -
Lifeway Kefir not telling the truth - article
Chemar replied to TeamTyrion's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
I received a reply from Lifeway. I have used their products for a long time now and also know they are the kind of company that would not risk their reputation or their actual business by making false claims. I would suggest that anyone else wanting to contact them do so via their website (you can call them or email) http://www.lifeway.net -

Lifeway Kefir not telling the truth - article
Chemar replied to TeamTyrion's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
I think I would like to hear both sides to this as some of the statements in this article are rather broad? It may be accurate....but then again, it may be alarmist. Again, I think I would like to see a response from Lifeway before passing judgement We have tried all other keirs on the market in our area, and Lifeway is by far the best and the only one that shows clear results for my son re his Crohn's -
There are alternative non invasive forms of allergy testing like the ELISA and NAET systems Mixed reviews but when we had a similar form of radiogenics, and then followed up with blood tests, it was amazing how well they matched up!

Hi there it is so frustrating when you are doing all the right things but the tics still wax..... Remember with TS there are also likely some "internal" or other subtle triggers that account for the characteristic waxing and waning and these are obviously harder, if not impossible, to fully account for. As your daughter is also now at or near puberty, with all those hormonal changes, this may also be a factor! along with those teen year angsts that push up the stress levels and so exacerbate tics We have found over the years that being totally organic and "clean" in diet is well worth it... just a little of the toxins etc from pesticides, additives etc can often have a very big reaction!

Hi this really is something you need to discuss with his doctor. Stress and anxiety are major tic triggers, but whenever there is tremoring or anything that appears more like a seizure than a tic, it is always best to consult with a physician. It may just be a form of tic, so I am not trying to alarm you! People with TS do not usually have such very long waning periods? so not sure just what is causing your son's tics.

Hi and welcome to the forum I am bumping your new post up so others here can see it and respond

Hi I get so sad when I hear of doctors who ignorantly dismiss the importance of diet and the environment as triggers for tics, whether TS or other I found a previous thread re Bay area doctors http://latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=14195 If you do a Google search for Environmental doctor Bay area as well as Integrative doctor Bay area you will get quite a lot of results Hopefully someone with experience from that area will also reply here all the best and I do hope the mother realizes the reality of tic triggers and agrees to really help this child!

Essential Oils and KST chiropractor care
Chemar replied to Jetocurly4's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi Not sure what KST chiro is? My son benefited from NUCCA chiro and yes, I have documented the relief he had from essential oils, specifically jasmine which seems to be calming for OCD and anxiety as well.
