Chemar replied to BensMom's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
Hello I am just bumping up your first post so others can see and respond -
Hi yes it is very beneficial ....it is in the later posts on the thread about his treatment as it was not until a few years after we started his regimin that it was added We also grow fresh lemon balm and just chewing a leaf can have a calminative effect.
-
Hi my son has great benefit from curcumin and also from turmeric in food. He uses it as an anti-inflammatory for Crohn's

It is always a good idea to discuss supplement use with your doctor, although Natural Calm is available without prescription. The instructions on how to take it are on the label.
-
No, only one company makes Natural Calm though you can get it at many different retail stores and assorted sites online https://naturalvitality.com/natural-calm/
-
My son found ionic magnesium as in Natural Calm (ionic mag citrate powder) had the most rapid effect. when younger he took a calcium/magnesium/zinc combo Many people like magnesium taurate

Hi I would strongly suggest that you ask this on our PANS forum as when there is strep involved (or even other infections) that may be the reason for thew tics http://latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showforum=17

Hi sorry to hear your son is dealing with these tics. As they seem to have started after an infection, even though their is no noticeable OCD etc...I would still suggest looking into PANS Our PANS forum is here http://latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showforum=17 There are some parents there from the UK as well The absence of any vocal tics, and the onset process really does seem to suggest this is not likely to be TS, but the fact that his dad had childhood tics may indicate some genetic component? It may well be just transitory tics, and will pass....as many kids do get these and have no lasting impact. But it is always good to fully check things out. Do also take a look at our pinned "helpful" thread. Nomatter what is causing these tics, following some simple adaptations like checking for food and environmental allergies, no artificial food coloring or other chemical additives, clean environment and removing other potential triggers etc etc can often help tremendously!

Introduction and Question - Feingold or Failsafe?
Chemar replied to Albatros's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi and welcome I have no personal experience with either Feingold or Failsafe, though have seen more people here post about success with Feingold. Hopefully someone who knows more about the 2 will be along soon to give you some info We have that individualized testing for allergies and intolerances, and then tailoring the diet and environment to account for those, worked best. Also total elimination of artificial anything! My son has genetic TS and in addition to known triggers, he still has that "mysterious" waxing and waning that seems characteristic of TS....but since cleaning up his diet and environment and avoiding known triggers where possible, his TS went from very severe to hardly noticeable, so the waxing phases are really not bothersome anymore, whereas they used to be intense when he was younger. -

Hi It would be helpful if you could share the location (not specific, just general region) where you are so members can post their experience with practitioners in your area -
Did your child start with only talking/vocals?
Chemar replied to worrywort's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi sriramcs You may want to post this on our PANS forum as the parents there really have a lot of shared knowledge on illness/infection induced tics etc http://latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showforum=17 -
we use the active anti-inflammatory extract of turmeric = Curcumin as a supplement (enhansed with bioperene) We also cook with powdered turmeric

What is the normal pattern of tic changes?
Chemar replied to KateH's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi Kate There really is no set "normal" for tics as they vary so from individual to individual and dependent on root cause, triggers etc Even though you suspect a family history re your husband, still a few things you said made me wonder if perhaps you might be looking at something in addition to TS You mentioned meltdown and rages etc at the start of all this....now yes, people with TS can have co morbid issues with the tics....but more and more it seems that kids with infections can exhibit what you described, strep being a major culprit but not the only factor. So in addition to invenstigating possible TS, I do also suggest you look at our PANS/PANDAS forum, especially if your child was ill. sore throat or other malaise preceeding the onset of the tics http://latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showforum=17 Here is also a good website that explains http://www.pandasnetwork.org Do also look at our Helpful Threads section pinned to the top of the TS forum -
Hi does your daughter have any vocal tics? Usually for a TS dx there need to be motor and vocal tics (not necessarily together) for a year or more, and most often, also a family history of tics or TS Improvement with treatment really is dependent on just what is causing the tics...and also if the treatment is relevant to that cause.. Do you have Sheila's book on Natural treatments for Tics & Tourette? http://latitudes.org/store/tics-tourettes-book/ It really is a great resource Also take a look at our Helpful Threads section pinned to the top of this forum You may want to consider doing Epsom baths more often. Morton's Epsom Lotion is also a good stanby to rub in when you skip the baths. In addition to the no artificial flavors that your doc has recommended, I would add no artificial *anything*....we found the coloring one of the worst tic triggers! Also consider having some testing done to determine just what foods are offenders as not everyone is dairy or gluten intolerant. It's great your daughter is not botherd by the tics, and my best advice to you is try not to let your anxiety over them impact her...it is hard I know but I learned over the years that one of the worst tic triggers is us parents fussing about them!! My son is now in his mid 20s and doing great, and he had very severe TS as a child.....so do be encouraged....things can and do get better once one takes the right steps to reduce triggers and improve what you can.

New member and tics have gone crazy the past week
Chemar replied to Jamie89's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
that is something you need to discuss with your doctor Jamie, as once the hormonal & neurotransmitter balances are impacted, things need to be stabilized with care. As you seem not to have relief by taking extra magnesium, which often helps, not sure what else to suggest other than to go see your doctor asap
