Hi Just one question....as far as I know, a fecal test alone cannot be used to exclude a PANDAS/PANS diagnosis? Did the doctor have any blood or other testing done for this? Restoring good intestinal flora health is vital nomatter the condition imo....but I would still request the other tests related to PANDAS to be absolutely sure. You can ask on our PANS forum about this.

Hi and welcome Diet compliance is tough. Best way imo is to find as many great recipes as possible that incorporate the acceptable substitutes re swallowing pills....best tip I have is to take them while drinking liquid through a straw.

There are assorted supplements that can help with the OCD side, which is often related to too low serotonin levels. Inositol is a B vitamin that many find helpful, especially for younger kids with still developing brains 5HTP OR Tryptophan are used by many for OCD but they are a bit more potent and best only added under physician supervision There are other supps like St John's Wort etc that can also be helpful We found that different supplements helped best at different stages, depending on the severity of the OCD symptoms, and that including CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) really is best. Unfortunately, the prescribed meds for OCD (SSRIs) come with a whole heap of potentially adverse side effects!

Hi that sounds like a classic Tourettic OCD situation! So I would say yes, it is a tic, that has become morphed into a "have to" OCD...or the OCD may have been what started it and the tic is now blended with it = Tourettic OCD

Need some opinions or tic vs something else...
Chemar replied to xJackx's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
One extra thing to mention is that numerous people have come here due to eye tics....and many of those have found the tics resolve for their kids when they eliminate all dairy products. So that is another avenue to explore............ -

Hi and werlcome You may want to also investigate photosensitivity induced tics. We have had members here whose children have developed tics due to photosensitivity issues and things resolved when this was addressed. Flashing lights, fluorescence and use of the old CRT TVs and computers can also contribute to this. A member who was here for many years (Claire) managed to help resolve her child's tics once she addressed the photosensitivty If you so a search for IRLEN you may also find some useful info...take a look at our helpful threads pinned to the top of this forum. People with TS may also have photosensitivty, so the 2 are not mutually exclusive...but if the only tics your child has are the eye tics, seems to me that may be where the trigger is. -

The responses to this question here have always been variable....due most likely to the fact that different people tic for different and often complex reasons. I honestly think that, with the prevalence of PANS, if a child tics or has other neuro or psych symptoms with illness, investigating PANS is a wise decision. remember too that just because a child has TS, that does not mean they do not also have PANS. The 2 are not mutually exclusive!

I am no longer able to copy/paste in forum?..off topic
Chemar replied to qannie47's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
I have tested with an iphone and an android tablet and both remain logged in so am thinking that as others have also been able to remain logged in from their phones/mobile devices...that must be something in the settings of those being timed/logged out? ie It does not appear to be a forum problem? -
welcome Genevieve So happy to hear of the success you are having with the elderberry syrup. Just an FYI that you had placed your first post on a different thread and so it was given it's own so it would not get buried on that long running one related to my son. Also wanted to link another thread that was started here some years ago on various treatments that had brought success http://latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=3558

For those geting signed out...do you have the "shout box" at the top of the forum open or closed? -
Hi yes I have my son's success story linked in my signature below . My son still has genetic TS...there is as yet no known "cure" for that. But his tics are almost non-existant and most people who have not known him since childhood, do not have any idea that he has TS Tics caused by other conditions also often resolve when the cause is addressed There have been many success stories here over the years but remember, most people who have had tics resolve move on and don't keep posting ....

mayzoo...did you do anything differently this time? I have notified the webmaster so it can be checked but it seems the majority of members are *not* having any problem linking -
Thorne research is our choice. My son used the copper and iron free adult formula but they also make one for kids http://www.thorne.com/Products/Multiples/Children/prd~VMC.jsp

I am not having any copy/paste problems here. Is anyone else? -
It really depends on how it is done. There is a form of CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) that helps people with tics form substitute actions/sounds and when done correctly, really helps BUT just telling someone with a tic to stop it, can sometimes have the opposite effect in that drawing attention to it can increase the "need" to do it, plus the stress of trying to suppress it can also exacerbate things, often increasing the anxiety/OCD component. You may want to do a Google search on Tourettic OCD (if that is what he is exhibiting) When our physician first enlightened me about it years ago, so much became clear! But whether it is the tic or the OCD driving this touching, care has to be taken in blocking it, as that "have to"....."or else" aspect can be very traumatic for the person.

Here is a chart of common tics http://www.tourettesyndrome.net/wp-content/uploads/CommonTics.pdf You will notice that touching falls under complex tics 300mg supplemental magnesium is usually recommended for TS tics Epsom Salts baths are helpful too (2 cups epsom salts (magnesium sulphate) in tub warmest water, soak 15-20 min before bed Do take a look at our helpful threads pinned to the top of the forum (also have it linked in my signature below) There is a lot of good info there, including the link to Sheila Rogers' book:Natural Treatments for Tics and Tourette's
