Hi I would agree that starting tics in adulthood may point to some trigger other than Tourette Syndrome It would be wise to look into allergies, infections or exposure to some toxic agent
-
what is your source for that info Guy? All the references I can find state that Sovereign Silver IS colloidal??
-
iherb's Natural Library has an excellent article on it http://healthlibrary...chunkiid=111807 as a general antimicrobial, I prefer things like olive leaf extract and monolaurin /lauricidin coconut products colloidal silver is a good external antiseptic, but I would be cautious about a child taking it orally, although short term would likely not be a problem?? but I really do not know what about some lemon honey tea (chamomile or rooibos tea with half a lemon and a few teaspoons of honey)...that is such a good remedy for blah stuff I find. I have it with black or green tea too sometimes

tics can increase with illness or infection, Kevin so yes, an eye rolling tic may well be associated with him having a cold virus. food or environmental allergies (pollen season/spring) , eye strain from needing glasses etc have also been noted as eye tic triggers

maybe the fact that it is closer to the earth negates the bad effects....son is out with friends, moon watching and just called to say he feels great and really enjoying it..... It is gorgeous isn't it!

yup....hoping it will just be a beautiful event with no big neuro impact! but aware and alert and son taking extra of what he needs to be safe.............

TS Doctor in the Bay Area (Oakland, Berkeley, CA)
Chemar replied to nola's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
the TSA can often give referrals to TS docs you can contact them by phone or via email http://www.tsa-usa.org however, most of the docs they refer to are not into alternative treatments!! -
Bonnie have you tried the epsom salts bath before bed?

yes, we have had a number of discussions on this here unfortunately, those that tried it did not report remarkable results it seems may be helpful for *some* people who have that TMJ allignment problem but it is NOT "the" cause or cure for Tourette Syndrome

I am biased as both my son and husband were severely impacted by the side effects of TS&OCD meds The problem is that different people react differently to meds, and so too with side effects. What may be a passing inconvenience for some can be a long lasting serious effect for others If you do decide on any meds, research the individual med very thoroughly and then weigh up the potential risks and benefits....and please know that those reassurances from the docs and pharma that the severe side effects are "rare" ,,,,well.....all I can say in polite company is "phooey!" Proceed with caution, especially with a child's developing brain...............

post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis
Chemar replied to colleenrn's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
hi Colleen did you mean to post this on the PANDAS forum? as I would think the parents there would have most info on it..................... -
Just a word of caution to all reading that artificial sugars, especially aspartame/Nutrasweet and sucralose/splenda, as well as High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) are documented as tic triggers as well as being problematic for other stuff!! I am not sure why they don't affect you badly Thenervemann, but we have a lot of threads archived here of their negative effect on many people Much better, if you can tolerate them, to use honey or maple syrup as sweeteners, or even Stevia.

Psychotherapy, CBT, ERP for anxieties/OCD
Chemar replied to musicbuff's topic in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
My son does not have PANDAS but does have OCD co-morbid with his Tourette Syndrome. CBT was very beneficial, but do be sure you "interview" the therapist first as one needs someone with caring and compassion and respect for the personality of the patient, rather than a more aurthoritarian "do it MY way" type of psychologist IMHO There is info on CBT on the pinned thread above http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=1963 -
Hi just to encourage you both.....most of the "old" posters are gone because thankfully, most kids with tics do seem to improve greatly once they leave the teenage years. I know that is small consolation when you are dealing with the here and now.. Waxing and waning can sometimes be related to tic triggers, but, with TS, it can also just "happen" mysteriously. have you checked the informal list of potential triggers yet? http://www.latitudes...ng_triggers.htm

Should I discontinue Orap before beginning gluten-free diet?
Chemar replied to bcbmommy's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Heather, with that history of strep etc I would definitely try to find a PANDAS literate doctor to check for you as there are specific blood tests etc that need to be done and not many doctors understand PANDAS yet. I am not saying your child does have it, but whenever OCD is a big concern and there is a strep history...well, it is very worth it to check as the treatments for PANDAS are different than for TS, especially if you do not have a clear family history of tics and TS you may want to ask on our PANDAS/PITAND forum about doctors in your area that are knowledgable on PANDAS http://www.latitudes...hp?showforum=17 and yes, you can request all medical records from your pediatrician, some charge a fee for the copying, but it is your right to have copies of all medical records -
Should I discontinue Orap before beginning gluten-free diet?
Chemar replied to bcbmommy's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hello Heather as you are noticing such an increase in OCD, it may be worth looking into PANDAS & PITAND if he has had any history of strep or other infection Is the ORAP helping at all? do be careful when coming off any of those psychiatric drugs as they need to be very carefully tapered to avoid withdrawal reactions -
I will never forget the feeling of relief and amazement when we saw the dramatic changes in my son by changing diet and adding supps. (both for the TS as well as the Crohn's) so glad to read the other positive updates here as well !

grapeFRUIT seed extract can interact negatively with some medications so do check on that http://en.wikipedia....d_by_grapefruit ps I have noticed many people seem to confuse grapeFRUIT seed extract with grape seed extract (first is from the citrus grapefruit, 2nd from the seeds of grapes) so also just wanted to mention the difference for anyone reading.

Clean Multi Vitamin for Son with Tics / Anxiety?
Chemar replied to cory2605's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi Cory some people just do not seem to react well to the taurine, although for most people with TS it seems beneficial If your child does not have TS, that may be why you saw a reaction to it I do agree that a balance of all the needed nutrients is important. The B vitamins are essential for all neurological conditions so do be sure your son is getting enough of those, preferably via a good multivitamin -
Hi phobias can be very closely linked to OCD are you giving her anything for the OCD? Inositol, a B vitamin, can be helpful as can Theanine (also found in green tea) There are other OTC supps that also raise serotonin and help calm OCD but as they are more powerful, best to get professional advice before trying any of them We have found that keeping a bottle of pure NOW jasmine oil is a good idea, and then take a deep smell from the bottle when feeling anxious, depressed, OCDish etc It is remarkably calming another good natural things we have found is Lemon Balm Tea (we use the one by celebrations herbal)

my son tics more with fish oil, but takes a daily vitamin D3 supplement for his (autoimmune) Crohn's Disease, and he does *not* tic more from the vit D so that does not seem to be the problem for him. I guess this is one of those issues again where the unique biochemical environment in each person is what determines these sensitivities and reactions
