setscret wood can be full of yuck chemicals that are added when they process it, so this is what may be triggering the tics...also tearing up the old carpet may have released mold spores, formaldehyde and just lots of dustmite into the air.... you may want to get a HEPA filter at least for his bedroom so that he can sleep in more purified air!

Hi Bonnie my son always has benefited from chiro adjustment and not had any increase in tics. He only sees NUCCA chiros. It could be that the initial re-alignment of the skeleton is what is causing this increase for your son. Hopefully it willsoon stabilize and show improvement My son always likes to take an epsom bath after adjustment

This forum really does not get as much traffic as the others, so you may want to ask about this on the PANDAS forum as well
-
Hi Trinnie PANDAS is strep related but PITAND can be triggered by other infections, and we also now have growing evidence of Lyme disease likely falling into the PITAND category, so if you are in a Lyme tick area...worth investigating we have forums here for PANDAS/PITAND and for Lyme where you can get more info http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php

Vocal Tics - Very Inappropriate Language
Chemar replied to StillHopeful's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Sounds like that neuro and his nurse were totally clueless on both PANDAS & TS! I see you have been posting on the PANDAS forum so should be getting good info there. Please do keep us informed here too on your son's progress on the PANDAS treatment protocol hope you see much improvement! Have you tried the Natural Calm magnesium powder that is mixed with water or juice? perhaps your son would be willing to try that? as whatever the cause, magnesium really does seem to help a lot with tics. here is that website for sensory dysfunction stuff http://out-of-sync-child.com/ -
Whenever there is atypical waxing/waning with a TS dx, I tend to look at possible other root causes. Have you looked into a possible "infection connection" ie PANDAS/PITAND?
-
Hi Trinnie although TS tics characteristically wax and wane, it is usually not for such long periods at a time as you describe. I would personally think there is another cause for the tics because of that. are you only seeing the motor and vocal; tics, or are you also seeing behavioral/mood changes etc?

Vocal Tics - Very Inappropriate Language
Chemar replied to StillHopeful's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi did the same doctor who diagnosed the TS also dx the PANDAS? It is very possible that your child's symptoms are not related to TS but rather rooted in the infection/inflammation. If you start seeing improvement on the antibiotic, that should be a pretty clear sign that PANDAS is the primary dx Occupational Therapy can be very helpful to kids with sensory dysfunction. A good book/website is The Out of Sync Child -
5 Year Old Natural Approach NEED HELP Please
Chemar replied to Jetocurly4's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi if he is not responding to all that, I would strongly suggest you investigate an infection connection (PANDAS/PITAND or Lyme) as well as some of the other potential triggers that have been suggested.... if the regular multi you give has added coloring and flavoring...that in itself is a bad trigger for tics! sorry such a quick post but all the time I have right now hopefully others will soon give their suggestions too -

Hi if you go to the link in my signature below, you will find a thread I have about my son's tic journey dairy is the most common allergy associated with tics it seems

My son has very successfully used MonoLaurin (by Cardiovascular Research) which, if I understand correctly, is the lauric acid from coconuts I was interested to learn that lauric acid is the first natural antibiotic infants get exposed to when breast feeding, as it occurs in breast milk (as well as coconuts and I think palm kernel oil?) I also read a while back that there were encouraging trials using it on HIV+ patients, so it seems a potent anti-viral this is the brand we used http://www.vitaminsh....jsp?id=CV-1068 We used to pay around $25 for 90 capsules so they seem to have reduced the price there quite a bit! I think Solaray makes one too My son used it as an anti-viral for Epstein Barr and also as a general anti-microbial to help with his Crohn's Disease

New here with questions! Would love insight!
Chemar replied to kdnc5716's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi kdnc you can copy and repost on the other forums here too here is our Lyme board as well http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showforum=19 Just remember that there may be no single cause but possibly a combination of factors so keep looking into everything that seems reasonable -
The Treatments that have Helped My Son
Chemar replied to Chemar's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi many of the regular vitamin/mineral supps are listed as being safe with SSRIs, but it is always wise to consult your doctor..... but do not ever add anything that increases serotonin while still onSSRIs! So the supps used for OCD/anxiety/depression etc are best not mixed with SSRIs or other psychiatric drugs unless a physician has advised so. you can check drug/supp interactions here http://healthlibrary...&chunkiid=33801 -

Chemar replied to kdnc5716's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi where it may be possible that this is symptomatic of PANDAS , I do also want to point out that we have many examples of kids who have started ticcing because of allergies, or other triggers and who do not necessarily also have PANDAS/PITAND or Tourette Syndrome. Many conventional doctors do tend to automatically equate tics with TS, but we know from the many reports here that there are a wide range of factors that can cause childhood tics, as well as the other symptoms you mention. Do take a look at the helpful threads list here http://www.latitudes...?showtopic=2459 and here is info on an excellent book on natural ways to treat tics, that also covers allergies etc http://www.latitudes.org/book.html An interesting article on potential tic triggers http://www.latitudes...ng_triggers.htm our PANDAS/PITAND forum http://www.latitudes...hp?showforum=17 info about PANDAS http://www.pandasnetwork.org and http://www.PANDASresourcenetwork.org -
Melanie, I really would caution you not to try to increase your child's histamine levels without absolute certainty that it is needed, as you could set in motion a domino effect! personally, I would take the doc's advice as if you look at that study it says One family. Rare. How can they extrapolate this to TS in general ? again a study that deals with a specific family trait.... and if just the anecdotal info on our TS board is considered.....a very rare trait indeed!
-
I also wanted to add that my son also finds foods that are high in histamine aggravate his Crohn's Disease symptoms. Crohn's is an autoimmune inflammatory bowel disorder. It seems that histamine increases the inflammation for him. Again indicating that there may be more exceptions to what this study suggests.
-
My son has genetic TS and has shown *increased* tics to anything that increases histamine, so I do think this research needs to be seen as being relevant only to people who have low histamine or who are not sensitive to histamine increases! we actually have numerous anecdotal reports on the TS forum here of anti-histamines DECREASING tics, and tics increasing when allergic reactions present (ie when histamine goes up, so do the tics!), again contradicting what this study suggests

Hi my son has ADD (no H) and found the combination of Omega3 and the supplement, Ginkgo biloba, to be excellent for focus/attention
-
I really don't know the answer to that guy. I would think that anything chelated probably has some type of change but I am not sure. You could try asking mrsD as she would likely know

I would like to caution anyone who is not bipolar or specifically prescribed lithium to please not try it without first consulting your physician. As peglem posted, the effects can be very severe if your system does not require or tolerate lithium! and even the "homeopathic" otc versions can be problematic unless specifically recommended by your physician
-
yes, that excellent thread from mrsD on NeuroTalk about Magnesium is one I have linked here a number of times The mag lactate is supposed to be the very best absorbed but I have not been able to find it
-
any of the mags other than oxide are well absorbed, guy, tho the citrate is the one with the more laxative effect. Maybe try for glycinate or, as many of them are nowadays, a blended one. There is no reason to take mag and taurine separately and do remember...some people react negatively to taurine! If you do not have TS tics, then taurine may not be needed. I don't see any negative reactions between magnesium and clonidine http://healthlibrary...&chunkiid=25085
