6 year old son newly diagnosed help!
Chemar replied to flipflop's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
I do agree that it is always worth investigating possible PANDAS or PITAND (where symptoms are triggered by other infections than strep) BUT it is important to note that other triggers can also cause symptoms to manifest this way, not just strep/infection! We have had many parents pass through these forums whose children's tics have completely resolved without any antibiotics or IVIG or other procedures for PANDAS Just because symptoms overlap, it does not mean there is a definite diagnosis. -
Hi and welcome we have a number of posts archived here about tics triggered by photosensitivity so it may well be the flicker from the TV monitor that increased the tic. If you do searches for Claire's posts on screens and photosensitive tics you should get a lot of info An Integrative doctor may be best as they are trained in conventional medicine, so are MDs or DOs, but they also specialize in alternative/naturopathic/environmental health so have a more holistic approach. Dairy and gluten seem to be the main foods that are associated with allergies, but they dont trigger tics in everyone Keeping a journal really can be very helpful here are some good threads to get you started http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2459 and an excellent reference book http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=1314

tmj New treatment for Touretts..REAL?
Chemar replied to NEWARK's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi if you do a forum search here you will find some threads on this Although it was hyped quite a bit, it did not seem to produce the results that may have been hoped for, at least judging by the feedback from members who tried it. That is not to say that it will not help some people who may have tics related to TMJ misalignment.... but it is most definitely not "the" cause nor "the" cure for TS/tics per se -
I just posted this on the PANDAS board as well.... as so many people with TS seem to have co-morbid depression, and more reports are suggesting possible inflammatory conditions, this is interesting research IMO http://psychcentral.com/news/2012/01/06/depression-may-lead-to-inflammation-health-problems/33376.html

Please read...Tics/tourettes/stereotypies DD 6 yo
Chemar replied to cam's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi I don't know much about sterotypies but from what I can gather, it is very different from tics/TS, which are involuntary movements and sounds http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/neurology_neurosurgery/specialty_areas/pediatric-neurology/conditions/motor-stereotypies/ Have you had a second opinion? Does she have any history of strep infection? -
6 year old son newly diagnosed help!
Chemar replied to flipflop's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi and welcome sorry it took a while for your post to show. We have new anti-spam filters and they can sometimes hold back legit posts. First, let me try to encourage you by saying that in the vast majority of cases, tics and "habits" in very young children often resolve on their own, and even a TS/OCD diagnosis may not always be accurate. Does your child have any history of strep infections? Do you think there may be any correlation between the tics starting and any vaccinations? other illnesses? dental work? We have a (non scientific) article here on triggers for tics that may be of interest to you http://www.latitudes.org/articles/finding_triggers.htm also a very helpful book http://www.latitudes.org/book.html -
I'll add more later as just leaving for work but yes, my son has used turmeric and the curcumin extract as an anti-inflamm for Crohn's with no triggering of tics if you do a forum search here and on the PANDAS board you will find a lot of info on anti-inflamm also look at Dr Weil's anti-inflamm diet.

I think it is just that perhaps Bonnie has only included some of the early testimonials there. Her supplements are still very popular and I certainly know of many people still using them with much success
-
Rescue Remedy has always been a real help for us for those moments when an instant calmer is needed! Bonnie, have you ever tried GABA?
-
oh that is a very low dose so you have no need for concern IMO!
-
Hi I don't know the product you are referring to so have no idea what is in it. But if there is a label warning not to take it with meds, then I would definitely suggest you check with the doctor who rx the clonidine before using it We like Candida Clear by NOW, but I do not know if it reacts with any meds either
-
Hi I don't think it would be a problem as people can tolerate pretty high doses of Inositol. How much Inositol do you take now?
-
I am very pleased this has worked for you flower Just adding two points though as it is important: firstly, some people with TS have reported very negative responses to "habit reversal" therapy so not sure if this would be the same with CBIT, which I do not know anything about secondly, there are FDA warnings about Abilify, and these were highlighted by Sheila Rogers in a previous thread http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=1152&view=findpost&p=7486

Hi TS tics and seizures are very different. Have you told his doctor about this and had him checked for seizure activity? Anytime there are possible seizures, it really is very important to get medical help
-
Hi I found this post in the Learning Disabilities section and thought perhaps you had intended for it to be on Lyme forum instead ?
