Pat CVS has brought out a DYE FREE ibuprofen that does not have the coloring that advil does, and it is also a small tablet, so maybe easier to crush and mix with a spoonful of something she may be willing to eat? Have you ever done any of the strep or lyme etc testing? Where I feel there are many genetic and environmental factors affecting our kids, when these sudden and dramatic flares happen, I do think there is always a possibility of infection also being a trigger.

Red Bull is full of excessive caffeine and other stuff guy so no comparison to the taurine in that "mix" to magnesium taurate or correctly balanced magnesium and taurine separately. We do however have some reports here of people who tic *more* when they take taurine so it is an individual specific reaction. Bontech(linked above) have a mag taurate, as does Cardiovascular Research & Douglas Laboratories Both are available at iherb.com Many of us like Natural Calm which is mag citrate. Very well absorbed as in iopnic form, but the citrate can have a laxative effect if too much taken We were told not to exceed 500mg taurine daily and magnesium for an adult with tics should also be in the 400-500mg daily level as far as I understand. Another good way to get magnesium is through the epsom salts baths we talk about...transdermal absorption of the mag sulfate seems very beneficial for calming tics as well as a detox bath.

It is not just this forum that recognizes the benefits of magnesium for TS tics, guy...it is based on research, primarily that by Bonnie Grimaldi, who has the Bontech range of supps for TS (http://www.bonniegr.com) Mag research http://www.bonniegr.com/news.html For people who can handle taurine, magnesium taurate is recommended. Mag lactate, citrate, glycinate etc are also well absorbed Mag oxide is a total waste of money and not effective as it is very poorly absorbed

Hi Eve If your child has TS, then there may always be those mysterious times of waxing, likely for a reason but not always clear cut however, as we discovered with my son, some things are clear triggers and for us, chlorine was a very definite one In addition, if you are not consistently giving the needed nutrients, especially the magnesium, then that can be causative in waxing as well, based again on our experience My son also has found extreme heat (and cold) to be a tic trigger and re sunscreen...there are so many ick chemicals in so many of them that yes, that could also be a potential trigger. Some health stores do have better alternatives

Patty just adding to our PM communication that you should maybe also check into the fact that some types of Salvia (from which chia seeds come) have hallucinogenic properties so am wondering if something there could have triggered too. I do agree, as mentioned in my PM, re checking for an infection trigger asap! keeping you and your kids in my prayers

Weirdiest OCD I have ever seen.

Wilma, are you giving probiotics a few hours after the antibiotic? Epsom baths? all can help with herxing which could be why she reacts so to the abx -
911RN, just an FYI that I specifically mentioned CLONIDINE as guy had stated in his post that it was "safe"....and so I was pointing out that it is not necessarily "safe" for everyone, based on our personal experience with my husband who has TS I have no personal experience with klonopin, so no comment on that, and I did not in any way suggest that clonidine and klonopin are the same??
-
My husband had a horrible and long lasting psychotic reaction to clonidine so please don't just accept that it is a "safe" option!!! ALL of those drugs have the potential to have severe side effects.

we have discovered Thorne Research Basic Nutrients and are very pleased with it. Comes with or without copper & iron and has zero nasty stuff nor any "fad" extras. Just a pure and simple multivitamin/mineral.

glad to hear things are going well for both of your children, Mary & Leslie

thanks for clarifying I studied, and worked, in medical research many years ago, so I tend to be rather skeptical on the value of "true" results from scientific studies versus the value of the many anecdotal reports that I have seen verified over the years! I witnessed how many scientists "skew" and "extrapolate" and frequently make their data fit their hypothesis nevermind that so many studies are done by Big Pharma to validate their own products .... I do not need a research study to prove to me that my son, diagnosed with TS when he was 10, has shown remarkable improvements from nutritional treatments over the past 11 years! Every day is proof positive of how much better he is!!! Yet at the time that we decided to take him off the psychiatric drugs that were clearly doing him more harm than help, we had dire warnings from the conventional physicians treating him that things would go severely downhill if we followed these "unproven quack ideas"..............hah! lol as you can tell, it's a subject I feel strongly about. Nola, as far as I know, there are no specific meds that treat vocal vs motor tics. Most of the meds given for TS tics are neuroleptics or antipsychotics and come with a host of potential ick side effects I do know that a lot of posters here have mentioned how removing all dairy helped with vocal tics...this is not necessarily helpful for all, but worth a try L-carnitine is an amino acid that may be helpful for vocal tics, but is is a strong supplement and not everyone responds well to it I'm glad you have Sheila's book as it really is a very helpful resource to have.

My son has been using Thorne Research Basic Nutrients III (the one without copper and iron) and we are very pleased with it there is also one with copper & iron if preferred. we specifically needed one without all the extra stuff so many companies add...good in itself but possibly not always so for individual needs. Thorne sticks to the basics...pure and simple!

Hi and welcome I am not sure who here is in Atlanta. I am not sure what you meant by ?? do you mean considering allergy as a possible cause for the tics? or something else I do know that things like habit reversal are negative for kids with TS as TS tics are not habits, they are involuntary vocal and motor tics that have a neurological cause, not a psychological one. I look forward to following your progress.

My son has been using Thorne Basic Nutrients III as well and really likes it. He wanted something basic and pure, without all the other stuff that so many multi's add now, and also needs to avoid iron & copper. He finds 4 capsules a day suit him better than the 6 they suggest. iherb.com now sells Thorne products, at 10% off the MFR, plus they frequently have specials and also give discounts if you buy other stuff as well etc Have you compared their prices, Grace? We have used them for years. Even their shipping is lower.

Me neither Michael and from experience with my son I can say that it is not limited to only voluntary muscles at all!!
-
my son avoids caffeine as it makes his tics and his Crohn's symptoms worse

Hi Wilma I have merged the 3 threads you made that all seem to ask the same question It really is best to keep just one thread running on a specific question/topic to avoid confusion for you as well as other members thanks

9-Year Old Daughter Having Bad Thoughts OCD (Sexual)
Chemar replied to Sheila99's topic in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
just an FYI that the Kids Calm on the market at present is not the original Kids Calm magnesium citrate powder that many refer to here. The new formula is a Multivitamin/mineral supplement Most people use Natural Calm (by the same company) which is the pure ionic magnesium It is a powder that gets mixed with water, juice etc -
Dr Jones is a highly regarded doctor. Please PM each other when issues like this are discussed. I am locking this thread

some people simply cannot handle the high doses of melatonin and are better taking it in MICROgram doses rather than miligrams we found 300-600 MICROgrams beneficial whereas anything higher brought the restlessness and next day edgy & spaciness
