Why does behavior improve with a cold/fever?
kim replied to ssfkat's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
It looks like there is some research being done on this. Not sure if it was posted here already or not. If you do a search, I think this was looked at as an anti inflammatory too. Maybe for COPD? Since I follow a lot of the vaccine news where Jenny McCarthy is regularly trashed, I couldn't help but wonder if Johns Hopkins and Harvard hospitals were being influenced by Hollywood nitwits like the rest of us are regularly accused of http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/health/2014/10/13/broccoli-sprout-extract-may-help-curb-autism-symptoms/ Broccoli Sprout Extract May Help Curb Autism Symptoms -

Anyone have research linking vaccines to ASD?
kim replied to Dedee's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
rowingmom, I do know. I called Posey's office to support taking oversite of these things out of the CDC's hands (MMR review/whistleblower). I haven't read the link above, but I did read the one that you posted on the HepB corn. If there is someone to contact, I'll be happy to do that. This is something that I read on SAN Vax regarding DNA contamination and HPV vaccination, just pulled a quick article not from their site. http://holyhormones.com/womens-health/cancer-womens-health/cervical-cancer/unveiling-the-culprit-is-foreign-dna-contamination-the-autistic-villain-behind-biologic-vaccine-injuries/ excerpt -

Anyone have research linking vaccines to ASD?
kim replied to Dedee's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
Since my kids didn't catch chickenpox (each had one vaccine around ages 1 and 5) and I know shingles can be very painful, I wanted to review what was known about duration of protection, safety issues etc. The info below was new to me. The first link was what I ran into first. When I got to the 2nd, I thought it was in relationship to what I had already read but the name wasn't right, then I noticed that that it was dated 2011. Just thought I'd share. NEW STUDY VACCINES CAUSE AUTISM, LEUKEMIA, LYMPHOMAS: Journal of Public Health and Epidemiology. If you think that your son had a reaction to this make your Dr. report it to VAERS. If he won't, you can. The info for reporting is right in the insert. edited to add that the info. above was for a radiolabled placebo but might a reasonable presumption be made?

Ariel, I can't find anything that I posted that gave you the impression that I doubted that your sons illness was triggered by any thing other than what you stated. I was hoping to have a discussion about the immune system in general and what effects vaccination could have either positive or negative in an infant vs. an older child or even adults (prior to or after an autoimmune reaction). I'm sorry if I phrased that in a way that offended you. You were miles and miles ahead of me in the medical decision making regarding vaccination for my own children. I just blindly trusted. I'm to the point where I'm almost ready to pass the baton to my young adults and let them make their own decisions. They will be parents that will have to wade through all of this themselves in the near future (it comes faster than you can imagine). I was actually looking for information on the shingles vaccine (I've always worried about them contracting chikenpox/shingles at an older age) when I ran into the news of the "whistleblower," Thompson/CDC. My kids were born during the years of the highest thimerosal exposure. I know how that was handled and what was being said behind closed doors (Simpsonwood). Yea, his remarks regarding thimerosal/tics in the video that I posted sat off a boat load of bad emotions. I do have to say though, that I don't necessarily think of adverse events relating to vaccines as being something that always happens within a week or month etc. I have been looking at possible long term effects for a number of years. I mean, if you look at the "tic," data they are looking at outcomes in 7-10 yr. olds vs exposure at 0-7 mos. etc. I think at least regarding thimerosal, it's safe to say that adverse effects can show up down the road. I want to add that I'm not suggesting that they played any part in your own childrens medical picture." I would venture to guess that you did not allow any thimerosal containing vaccines, I'm only using that as an example. On a different note, I was looking at the "mouse study," recently and noticed that they had used Complete Freund's adjuvant to induce the antibodies to strep. That confused me because that would provoke the TH1 cytokines? IDK, I would have to read it again, I haven't had any computer time recently. http://www.jneurosci.org/content/24/7/1780.full These are just some things that were in my head during that conversation. I hope that gives you a little better idea of where I was coming from. The background info from Hilary's site was just a jumping off point for discussion, that's why I said "not to prove," anything. Hope there are no hard feelings. -

Jan, So sorry to read about the situation with your son. He's very lucky to have a mom who is willing to roll her sleeves up and dig in like so many others on these forums. When I metioned the genetic defect, I wasn't thinking that there was nothing that could be done to support that. What I was wondering is if some people have a weakness, defect or just overload from an unresolved infection/virus etc. where they are unable to replenish the GlcNAc within their own body? I know what you mean about not knowing what to do with the information. I had the same concerns that others have mentioned. Could it feed yeast, long terms effects, purity of the product, how much would it really take, would it work in the case of a true blue autoantibody. I was really only a bystander on the PANS/PANDAS forum. I never saw a child wake up a different kid, but....I did wonder what a weakness in sulphur met. or glycosylation could do with out the creation of autoantibodies crossing the BBB. I got to the point where I felt that I was trying to unravel a huge ball of yarn with boxing gloves on (no expertise in chemisty or biology) . I think what is needed is a little GlcNAc added to the ole pitre dish. It just seems a shame that there isn't some guidance with this supplement. I agree about the GI and bladder protective effects being interesting!

Jan, Now that is amazing. I just googled "Yasko shedding of the gags." I wanted you to see where my first thought process along these lines came from (from many years ago!). When I went to post it, I saw your edit. For anyone else interested in this topic, the information that Jan and I are referring to is on page 8 & 9 here http://www.dramyyasko.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/The-Role-of-Excitotoxins-in-Autistic-Type-Behavior.pdf which she has inked to above Did you see, in the Demetriou article: underling mine I'm going to find the full published study. It also talks about Vit D and some other things that are interesting.

rachel here is the article that lead me to the research posted above. http://news-releases.uiowa.edu/2008/may/050108heartdisease.html 9th paragraph Can I ask if your son's illness started in direct relationship to strep? I don't know the history other than what you stated here. I Just bumped up a thread regarding N Acetyl Glucosamine. If it's something that you suspect is involved, I sure would like to hear a Dr.s opinion. The strep antibody connection and this reseach has always had me wondering.- 5 replies

Vicky, I think your son would have gotten a varicella vaccine at one year if you were followimg the schedule at that time. If he had a herpes zoster outbreak (sound like it's mild) that would have made sense. There have been other reports of children getting shingles after getting the vaccine. The virus stays dormant in your body and can reactivate as shingles. The part I don't understand is having a case of chicken pox 2 years ago. From what I understand the virus always reactives as shingles. Has anyone ever confirmed that it's herpes zoster with a lab test?

rachel, Glad to hear that your son is improving and so sorry for what it sounds like your family has been through. I saw the headline for your post and remembered a thread here a long time ago. I couldn't find it but I remember being intrigued by the possibility of garlic, cabbage and turnips which contain S-methyl-L-cysteine, being helpful. I did find this http://www.jneurosci.org/content/27/47/12808.full The articles on the net at the time were easier to wade through.- 5 replies

Anyone have research linking vaccines to ASD?
kim replied to Dedee's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
Airial, Do you consider the genetic history of the HLA B27 genetic mutation, which makes your family predisposed to autoimmune and inflammatory conditions genetically, when making vaccine decisions? If so, I would think that the information in the link provided above would be of interest to you, mostly because of the information regarding inflammation and how an infants body is programmed to avoid it during the first year or two. I understand that you have a very clear cut classical PANDAS picture and that you don't believe that vaccines played any part in that condition. However, you are in the same boat as many parents (and maybe ahead of the game because you do know of a genetic family history) that are trying to learn which vaccines may be beneficial or harmful and by what mechanism. Do you have any feeling regarding an adjuvanted vaccine or a live viral vaccine? It seems I have read an occasional remark by a parent that says that their childs Dr. treating PANDAS say "no viral vaccines," but I don't think I have ever heard anything about avoiding aluminum, so I'm curious. I know that there are kids with tics, ocd, autism etc. that have never gotten a vaccine. I don't think anyone wishes to make any leaps and ignore any aspect of a condition. Quite the contrary. Connecting dots, keeping dialouge open and learning from one another is what I think we are all doing here and I appreciate your responses! I -

I was going to leave this at the bottom of this post, but I think I'll put it here Key Step Toward a Safer Strep Vaccine http://www.rtmagazine.com/2014/06/key-step-toward-safer-strep-vaccine/ If you click on the link within the article "The findings." you will be where they are trying to knock out GlcNAc from the strep bacteria. They call it a unique polysaccharide. airial, I'm just thinking out loud here. Young children are supposed to be able to mount an immune response to polysaccharides, but not form "memory," to them. I have read different things in different places. Most say at 2 yrs. this changes. I have read in the 3-5 year range too (i think). That's why a conjugated vaccine is recommened for younger children. They attach a protein to the polysaccride(s) and absorb it on alum. to get a response that the body just normally wouldn't produce. I'm talking about the vaccines for something like the Pneumococcal illness here, not MMR, varicella or live viral vaccines. The vaccine for adults is a polysaccharide only, Prevnar is conjugated. So your son would have had an immune response that created an antibody with memory to strep (I'm presuming here) at what would have been thought to be on the low end of the age range. One of the concerns regarding vaccines is that childrens immune systems are shifting from how they were naturally programmed. I'm going to go back and read here. http://www.beyondconformity.org.nz/hilarys-desk/vaccines-and-neonatal-immune-development I hope everyone on this forum will read this (all 3 pages +part 4.) Not to prove anything, just some things to think about, even in regards to naturally occruing illness. She explains this stuff way better than I can. I have read it several times and get something new out of it every time. edit cause I can't spell polysaccharide -
vicki, Would you mind saying what your sons status is regarding the varicella vaccine? Did he get 1 or 2 vaccines or did he ever contract a case of naturally occuring chicken pox (varicella)? With herpes zoster being a reactivation of the varicella virus, it seems like your ped would have questioned immune function in such a young child with the # of infections that he had. Did you notice behavioral changes with the zoster outbreaks or only with Impetigo? In regards to amoxicillian, my ped always said that it was like water on a fire where strep was concerned. My kids lived on it. This was long before I started questioning anything. After mulitple rounds my youngest was said to be a carrier too. He never had his tonsils removed, his brother did. Anyway, I would not accept one round of amox. not yeilding a negative culture as "carrier status," without some further investigation. Here is something that might be helpful http://www.urmc.rochester.edu/news/story/index.cfm?id=981 Penicillin, Amoxicillin: Step Aside for Strep Throat Treatment excerpt: Also, you might want to read here Pinned (at the very top of the 1st page of the forum) These are some commonly asked questions Helpful Threads & Links for PANDAS http://latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=6266 Q: My doctor has said that my daughter is a strep carrier and that the positive strep culture is meaningless. kim replied to Dedee's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
airial95, Such great points. I was never well versed in the MMR/Wakefield thing, although I did follow it somewhat for a period of time. My understanding was that the retracted study itself said that they didn't prove an association and further research was needed, so I'm not understanding the headlines about the "whistleblower," proving Wakefield right (which reinforces your insights as to gleaning anything meaningful from headlines). I'm guessing that the timing of the MMR to a subset of children is what they are referring to. Also, Wakefield denies that he ever had any interest in vaccine developement. The patient was in regards to transfer factor. You can read a couple of statements here http://issuu.com/wakefieldjusticefund/docs/1_3_12__plt_original_petition# page 144....about the retraction and what the claim of the study was in the first place page 146.....about funds from the patent On a different note, http://www.cctv-america.com/2014/09/01/hundreds-of-colombian-girls-been-hospitalized-after-vaccination excerpts and
