  1. StellasMum, If you/your Dr. decide to do azithromycin, I just wanted to point out that it does have a longer 1/2 life than a lot of antibiotics. The shortened course may not be as concerning if you research that a little. This talks about the problems with resistance but it has other useful informtion too. http://drugtopics.modernmedicine.com/drug-topics/content/tags/antimicrobial-resistance/azithromycin-no-longer-good-choice-common-infectio?page=full
  2. HopeinHIM, I had mentioned this study on another thread recently. http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0101257 Antibiotic Treatment Attenuates Behavioral and Neurochemical Changes Induced by Exposure of Rats to Group A Streptococcal Antigen The report of the type of reaction your neice had used to be chalked up to the dye in zithromax by some parents. It was said that it could be ordered dye free. Some parents said that helped. In addition to all of the other remarks for you to consider here, the above study points out something that I think is worth mentioning/discussing with Dr. T. Under Treatment with ampicillin (you can read about the details in the study) about 3/4 of the way through Both the control rats and the GAS rats were given various adjuvants such as complete Freunds adjuvant, heat killed mycobacteria h37RA, heat killed B pertussis and boosted later 2 +4 weeks. I think the control rats (no GAS antigen ) would have had a permeable BBB as did the GAS group. The control group had an increase in TH (tyrosine hydroxylase=precursor to DOPA) and D1 and D2 in the prefrontal cortex. I find that quite interesting and wonder if that could be a clue for some children who react negatively? In this study they used ampicillin ( B-lactam). Zithromax is a Macrolide, so I don't now if that would make a difference or not. For that matter the rats/kids might make a difference too, but still interesting!
  3. Sirena, I bet you are so glad that today is over. Hope your results are back quickly. Way to go on knowing what would help your little guy! Prayers for good news.

  5. You may want to read this and give your ID Dr. a copy, if you are wanting to trial amox. again, since she responded so well the last time. http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0101257 Antibiotic Treatment Attenuates Behavioral and Neurochemical Changes Induced by Exposure of Rats to Group A Streptococcal Antigen
  6. daughterincrisis, Do you have copies of the blood work that was done from the first Dr.s appointment that your daughter had after initial symptoms in Feb? I'm a fan of getting and keeping copies of those for comparison. I would request copies of everything from this latest appt. too. I'm assuming the ID Dr. is checking strep titers? The pinned threads at the top of the forum (I think it's titled Helpful threads for understanding PANDAS/PANS). A father from the forum (and others), have put together some great information concerning what those tests will tell and their limitations. Other topics include the possible benefit of other antibiotics, research links etc. One of those posts is here, but I would read through the whole thread. Hopefully, it will help make these appointments less frustrating and more beneficial for you. http://latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=3756&st=0#entry29305
  7. I'm in full agreement with worrieddadnmom about the swift and life threatening effects of meningococcal disease. I have no problem speaking out against taking choice out of the equation, the lunacy of birth dose of hep b rec for all infants, what I feel is a gross misrepresentation of what is occurring with pertussis in most of the media. Guess I could go on and on but.... this thread is not about those subjects and I'm very mindful of the fact that we have children/people with known or suspected immune deficiencies here. On Neisseria meningitidis, I think we really have to educate our kids not to swap spit with other people when avoidable. Smoking, drinking, eating, kissing (at least warn them, ). If they hear of a student with meningitidis, they need to know that vaccine or no vaccine, they need to take it seriously. There are warnings in many places about people with certain medical conditions such as not having a spleen or having a complement component deficiency being more at risk. However, the vaccine may be less effective for these people too. Review of complement deficiencies http://primaryimmune.org/about-primary-immunodeficiencies/specific-disease-types/complement-deficiencies/ The carriage rate concerned me here ((25%) and I think it's something to be aware of. I have no idea how dangerous or infective nongroupable N. meningitidis (18%). A carrier can infect others with no symptoms themselves, which I'm sure most of you are aware. It seems there are many types within the B strain. The vax insert for one on the B vaccines warns that the effectiveness against diverse serogroup B strains has not been confirmed. I feel vaccines can create a false sense of security when parents and students are unaware. This is just food for thought. I'm only learning much of this myself. on one outbreak http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm6422a2.htm Serogroup B Meningococcal Disease Outbreak and Carriage Evaluation at a College — Rhode Island, 2015 excerpt
  8. It sounds like Nancy has done her homework on vaccines (thoroughly discussed) but for any one who isn't up on tetanus, I'm going to leave some info here. The thing that I found astounding when I first started researching tetanus was how rare it actually was. underlining mine I took that from a different site, but I believe that same figure is stated on the CDC website. Nancy, will you let us know if they try to give your son the Tdap? I'm strongly suspecting that they will. If he insists on the Td only and they stock it, be aware that at least one of the two vaccines listed here http://www.immunize.org/packageinserts/pi_tetanus.asp shows that it contains trace thimerosal AND an aluminum adjuvant. Maybe some one else can read the other and point out differences? Robert F Kennedy Jr. has been very outspoken during the state hearings pushing for vax/eduction about the toxicity of trace thimerosal combined with alum. If you really want an education on tetanus and wound care, I highly recommend Hilary Butlers blog here http://www.beyondconformity.co.nz/resources/tetanus. 9. lbee, Could you explain what kind of test detected mercury toxicity (blood, hair, urine)? Maybe check this thread for Dr.s Doctors we have seen who helped with PANDAS http://latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=5023 edit.. I see where you were asking about an llmd. Check the pinned threads (the first few on this page). I'm not sure but there may be a list for them there as well.
  10. rowingmom, are you aware of the Merck lawsuit regarding the mumps portion of the MMR? They have been accused of adding rabbit antibodies to fake efficacy in the 90+ range. Any one who is testing titers should be aware of this and make their physician aware. Funny as they are forcing vaccination for education, they don't seem to think this is a threat and splash it all over the news. Here are a couple of links for that story. http://healthimpactnews.com/2014/judge-lawsuit-against-mercks-mmr-vaccine-fraud-to-continue/ http://philadelphia.legalexaminer.com/fda-prescription-drugs/massive-fraud-in-merck-mmr-vaccine-testing/ For anyone with a child due for a meningococcal vaccine, please be aware that the multidose vial of Menomune still contains 25 mcg mercury per dose. This is the vaccine for A/C/Y/W-135 strains. The newer B strain is a separate vaccine (which deserves a thread of it's own). Package inserts can be found here. http://www.immunize.org/packageinserts/pi_meningococcal.asp pr40, Have you already made a decision on the other vaccines that are on the schedule for 4-6 year olds? 5th dose DTaP, 4th dose polio and influenza? http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/schedules/downloads/child/0-18yrs-child-combined-schedule.pdf If you do decide to get the MMR and varicella, you might want to think of doing them separately. There is a combo shot, but you can get a separate MMR and the varicella and space them which is the way I would personally go, if I were going to vax. I think (you will have to check this in the insert) that the amt of antigen in the stand alone varicella is lower than in the combo shot (ProQuad). Since there has been some discussion of HLA types here, I have a few things saved. The Hep B vaccine response in relationship to celiac caught my eye. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18519462 Gluten intake interferes with the humoral immune response to recombinant hepatitis B vaccine in patients with celiac disease. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14572581 (excerpt) AIM: Human leucocyte antigen (HLA) system plays an essential role in the human immune system activity and the expression of some specific HLA antigens could modify the immune response to vaccinations. 14. EAmom (hey have you read your PM's lately?), I think you posted the article about adjuvants and repeated immunization overcoming OAS. Maybe that is why the the newer HPV vaccine has over double the adjuvant. http://sanevax.org/fda-approved-gardasil-9-malfeasance-or-stupidity/ 225 mcg AAHS (aluminum adjuvant) 500 mcg wondering how this might play out too http://www.everydayhealth.com/womens-health/hpv-vaccines-may-be-less-effective-in-african-american-women-researchers-find.aspx African American women are more likely than white women to have HPV strains not included in current vaccines. 15. Jan, If you do a search of the forums you should find some old threads where a dentist was claiming success with a dental appliance for people with TS. I know there was even a video of people before and after the appliance. I can't remember the specifics, but he did have a theory of how jaw misalignment (?) contributed to nerves that control something. I don't remember if OCD was ever mentioned as being any part of that whole thing or not. It was interesting to read your post in light of that old topic.
  16. YEA EAmom!!!! Can you send her a follow up e mail? http://www.nvic.org/Vaccines-and-Diseases/Hepatitis-B.aspx As of March 2012, there was a total of 66,654 hepatitis B vaccine-related adverse events reported to the federal Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS), including reports of headache, irritability, extreme fatigue, brain inflammation, convulsions, rheumatoid arthritis, optic neuritis, multiple sclerosis, lupus, Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS) and neuropathy. There were no sex-dependent differences in tested antibodies observed and no associations between levels of aPL and levels of anti-HBV antibodies. The text at the top of the report, however, states: “Before 1982, an estimated 200,000--300,000 persons in the United States were infected annually with HBV, including approximately 20,000 children.” The source for this large number was an article in Pediatrics in 2001. 17. eamom, Does the info on the page that you linked, make you want to puke when you think of the rec. to give all newborns that vaccine? The only explanation that I could ever find was that by giving it at birth to all newborns, it would encourage parents to bring baby back to complete the series. Now, if you are a prostitute and live with an IV drug user and use your toothbrush and/or razors on your newborn and comingle blood, I don't think you are really going to be the type of parent that is going to say "hey, I think they gave that kid a shot in the hospital, I better get him back for another one." Oh, yea, it was said that it could "catch," the infants of the mothers that weren't tested. Ahhh, I would say it would be better policy to make sure the hospital did test the mom. Sure seems resources to make sure that was implemented would be put to better use. If you can remember to give the infant the shot, you can remember to see if the mom was negative, I would think. Both of the vaccines that would be used for the birth dose are alum adjuvanted. Talk about reckless disregard. These are the only singles that I see listed (the rest are combo shots) that have a ped dosage. https://www.gsksource.com/pharma/content/dam/GlaxoSmithKline/US/en/Prescribing_Information/Engerix-B/pdf/ENGERIX-B.PDF page 8 under description http://www.merck.com/product/usa/pi_circulars/r/recombivax_hb/recombivax_pi.pdf pages 6 & 7 give description I'm still battling the ca senate in my head, sorry. 18. Nancy, Did you ever find an explanation for your son's symptoms? By chance, I ran across something on scarlet fever and it made me come back and look at your post. It doesn't fit, but I thought I would ask how he was doing and leave the article here anyway. Not a bad idea for people on this forum to be aware that this does still occur. According to the comments, Dr.s were surprised to see it in some cases. A lot of the remarks are referring to cases from years ago, but a few are pretty recent. http://scienceblogs.com/aetiology/2011/07/06/scarlet-fever-in-hong-kong/
  19. Jan, Thanks for posting the video, a good laugh is invaluable, imo. The way she cracked up was almost funnier than "the flush." She still controlled herself better than I would have.
  20. eamom, I think the original link to your last post was here http://healthimpactnews.com/2013/study-flu-vaccine-causes-5-5-times-more-respiratory-infections-a-true-vaccinated-vs-unvaccinated-study/ a statement from that article The authors play with statistics in this study by using assumptions about whether people actually had diseases, because there were many reported instances that couldn’t be verified. They came up with a relative risk of 4.4. In any case, relative risk is actually a meaningless statistic here, because it requires that exposure to the causative agent be known, which it clearly wasn’t in this study I was trying to figure out this case control study on the effectiveness of vaccinating a pregnant mom with the pertussis vax. I can find very little but here's one http://www.gsida.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/A-Case-Control-Study-to-Estimate-the-Effectiveness-of-Maternal-Pertussis-Vaccination-in-Protecting-Newborn-Infants-in-England-and-Wales-2012-2013.pdf case-control study was undertaken in England and Wales between October 2012 and July 2013. Cases were infants aged <8 weeks at onset with pertussis infection tested by real-time polymerase chain reaction or culture. Family doctors of each case were asked to identify healthy infants born consecutively after the case in each practice, to act as controls. Fifty-eight cases and 55 controls were included in this study. Odds ratios (ORs) were calculated for the association between maternal vaccination and infant pertussis infection. The vaccine effec- tiveness (VE) was calculated as 1–OR. This was adjusted for sex, geographical region, and birth period. Results. Mothers of 10 cases (17%) and 39 controls (71%) received pertussis vaccine in pregnancy. This gave an unadjusted VE of 91% (95% confidence interval [CI], 77%–97%). Adjusted VE was 93% (95% CI, 81% –97%) .Conclusions. Maternal pertussis vaccination is effective in preventing pertussis infection in infants aged <8 weeks and may be considered in other countries experiencing high levels of pertussis notifications. The strength of this study and the findings aren't particularly reassuring (10 out of 58 infants of vaccinated moms still had diagnosed pertussis) in my limited understanding. This is not even taking into consideration the effects on the mothers immune system, or the infants.
  21. talk about a run on sentence but.. I said look at the author affiliations from the paper that I linked the quote was taken from that paper Then the CA dept of public health says most of the 77 cases in 2014 have been in children 3 mos of age or younger and 2 deaths since 2010 have occured in infants. Is Pan subtracting these children from his stats on how many lives have been saved by vaccination? Do they think the billions on the vaccine could be spent coming up with a way to treat the few cases of severe pertussis which there would be so much less of, if people had true immunity? It just makes you furious how they jump from measles and polio, to "vaccines." If this argument was about a single measles vaccine (not MMR) and possibly polio (i know more now than I did before) which I'm not knowledgeable about, I could at least have some respect for debate on this bill. It's crazy that they say a waiver will be available for future vaccines. If a vaccine for MRSA were developed, wouldn't that be a million times more of a threat to a child recovering from chemo than Hep B? I truly believe the HPV vaccine and all of the young women who have suffered horribly, saved that part of the bill from passing. On another note,I wanted to ask you if you listened to the testimony during the health committee proceedings? A mom talked about her daughter being injured within hours of the DTP. Her testimony was heart breaking (Karen Cain,i think) . She talked about the lot# of the vaccine and that it had been shipped all over the states. Her testimony reminded me of a letter that I had read once. found it here http://www.ageofautism.com/2008/08/by-dan-olmsted.html
  22. Even if it takes one parent at a time eamom. Keep commenting after the trolls on any articles that you have time for, inform your friends, med professionals (they are tough because they usually walk out on you), family, accountant, attorney, pharmacist, you get the idea. Nicklemama, if need any ideas or help with your militant friend, holler! Our county health director had no idea that there were 6 doses of DTap/Tdap on the schedule for children He said he had done the research and vaccines were safe He thought Hep B was transmitted through feces...it's not Hep A is He said he would give his daugher Gardasil if he had one, yet knew nothing of the strains included, how many are known to be associated with cervical cancer/genital warts or how long any protection afforded was thought to last. He started taking notes and had to write down the word "adjuvant." I won't go any further but my point is...these people really don't KNOW. If you live in a state where "education," is required to get a waiver, GO and educate them! You don't have to know everything about every vaccine. Pick your subject and know it well. There have been bills proposed in other states to give rights back. They have said that this has made the minority more vocal. I agree and don't plan to shut up anytime soon. If you need a little lighter version of raw anger there is a good little video posted on AoA If the Auto Industry Were Run Like Vaccines http://www.ageofautism.com/2015/04/if-the-auto-industry-were-run-like-vaccines.html
  23. ^^ so I'll bet the non-vaccinated kids with whooping cough can fight it off better if they do get infected, so maybe it doesn't get to the diagnosed/severe stage. I think there are probably many kids that are unvaccinated that have had pertussis and developed natural long lasting immunity that were never diagnosed. In states that don't allow exemptions, those kids will be forced to be vaccinated with useless vaccines, if they want to stay in public schools. be careful eamom, if you stay at this long enough you are going to start forming some questions that are more pertinent to this forum and they will keep you awake at night
  24.
