mkur, http://webspace.ship.edu/cgboer/limbicsystem.html There is a good brain diagram here with info. including a clickable link for the basal ganglia. It also talks about "leptin," which I have always thought was significant, but after reading about Ghrelin, well that looks waaaay more interesting. If you read this http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/05/080506123104.htm Gut Hormone Makes Food Look Even Yummier and I think what the scientist in the first article that you linked were excited about was the fact that they probably could manipulate these neurons for dopamine or weight management without worrying about the effects being too widespread because only certain neurons (the ones that expressed both receptors) would be affected. I don't think it's known yet what all of the areas are that could be effected by an autoantibody. As far as I know Cunningham only tested tissue from the basal ganglia, but the gut/brain connection sure seems to keep getting reinforced. Something that I remember others posting about on the TS forum was that their child would start ticcing as soon as they saw the dinner table and all the way through a meal. There were other posts about "just the sight of food," so this is really interesting!

T,Mom, I meant to say For the heartbreak of knowing what other children and young adults are going through, not to mention your own child That may very well be all that some will require and some may need radical nutritional support and detoxification. All we can do is keep sharing information and praying. edit boy, that smiley really doesn't represent my mood!

T.Mom The videos are so helpful aren't they. For the heartbreak of knowing what other children and young adults are going through, I think it's still invaluable for parents that are trying to sort out where their children may fit.. in the whole scheme of things. Did you notice that Lori said that her face broke out in hives and she scratched all over (I think scratched was the word she used) in one of the videos? Alicia says that she has had hair loss and both girls have joint pain? http://www.cbs6albany.com/articles/symptoms-1290009-corinth-girls.html#ixzz1kFKdZP4a

Mechtler recommends World renowned Expert
kim replied to Iowadawn's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
I'm wondering if the cases are going to start coming out of the woodwork. I wouldn't want to be the "TS expert," who tries to fit the symptoms that these kids are experiencing into what has been foisted off on the rest of us. It's no more diagnostic in the vast majority of cases, than "autism." I just pray that something really useful can come out of this horrible situation, like everyone has to put their egos and pet diagnoses aside and come together to get some real answers no matter how ugly they might be. -

Might make it a little easier to understand some discussion on the "flu" forum

Thanks for picking up that ball EA&TMom's This is kinda interesting too. A little more than 1/3 of the way down is the info below. http://endo.endojournals.org/content/147/2/659.full Females Heightened Immune Status: Estrogen, T Cells, and Inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase in the Balance Lynn, Can you get them to cover this story and then interview you along with one of the families?

LLM, I'm well aware of that paper and glad you posted it. Also, reading through a few of these stories, you really have to wonder when enough people will HAVE to stand up and take a serious look at the role multiple vaccinations are playing in these disorders. http://truthaboutgardasil.org/injuries/ I really recommend reading this paper (like 10 times, lol) to anyone interested in this topic. It was such a stepping stone to my education in vaccination. http://www.whale.to/vaccines/butler.html

I didn't even finish watching that interview but I can't help noticing that they described dystonia to a tee. Has anyone heard that mentioned in any of the interviews/articles? I wonder if these parents are aware of Desiree Jenning's story? The cheerleader who develped something very similar after a flu vaccine. Tons of video on line, one found here http://www.insideedition.com/news/3525/woman-says-flu-shot-triggered-rare-neurological-disorder.aspx I can't believe ANYONE would say on national TV that this is "conversion disorder." The insurance billing info that someone posted, made sense...but your professional reputation??? Also, due to a question that someone asked on another thread, I found this paper last nite and it was like popping the top off of the strep cookie jar! Something that really stood out was a statement about only girls developing chorea after puberty??!! http://cmr.asm.org/content/13/3/470.full#xref-ref-509-1 Maybe others were aware that info was out there, I wasn't and wondered if that could be a clue as to why an infectious agent wouldn't be affecting boys too. Since something similar happened at a school 4 years ago (all females too according to the reports I'm aware of) it is totally unacceptable that they are acting like this is a closed case of stress induced psyc disorder. Maybe we should all stage a protest in that town and I'm only HALF joking.

EAMom, You would laugh at the book that I wrote on this and then deleted several times. Yes, I'm aware and have seen him caution of vaccine development. http://news.healingwell.com/index.php?p=news1&id=520604 Strep Vaccine Shows Promise in Early Trial I don't want to make anyone out to be a villian, however, I think I just get frustrated and question the politics of research. -

I almost said "only not as pronounced on little vessels," actually. Does anyone else here have a child with one? I don't think they're terribly uncommon, I was interested because of the remark -

This news story had me remembering and wondering.
kim replied to Not_the_Same's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
Can anyone tell if they say mental tests or metals tests in that first interview? Wonder if there is any source in that school for lead or mercury. I know the all girl connection would still be a puzzle. -
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21982399 Streptococcal tonsillitis as a cause of urticaria Tonsillitis and urticaria. This seemed important enough to post especially since they recommend investigation of tonsillitis even in the absence of symptoms.

P mom, I thought the same thing but I wonder if it's a problem with an antibodies binding with something and pumping out a bunch of dopamine and not a true deficiency in Dopamine beta hydroxylase? It also made me think about the mom who recently posted about her sons vomiting issue Julie, I found something when I was looking at psoriasis that seemed pretty important. This paper describes how people with psoriasis respond to a fungus differently than people who don't have psoriasis. They react to GlcNAC, the same carbohydrate that has been found to be reactive in some of the strep papers cited here. GlcNAc is found in the cell wall of the strep bacteria and a polymer "chitin," is found in the cell wall of fungi. I don't think that the antibodies that are created in a psoriasis situation are ones that would cross the bbb and attack the brain (or could they?), but it might tell us something important about the way certain peoples immune systems respond. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2200471/pdf/cei0105-0079.pdf There is a researcher who has proposed using n acetyl glucosamine (GlcNAc) to ward off T cells that are coded to recognize GlcNAc by blocking the receptors (because they also recognize self tissue and have been implicated in MS and type one diabetes). If these T cells are problematic in MS, Type one diabetes, psoriasis, and strep, seems it shouldn't be THAT hard to find an effective treatment? There was also a small study done using oral GlcNAc for stomach problems. I don't know if there is anything out there that would tie this type of reponse to hashimotos? I did find a whoop of a bunch of people discussing hashimotos and hives on this cite http://thyroid.about.com/b/2004/07/19/hives-linked-to-autoimmune-thyroid-disease.htm. Don't know if your daughter has had any problem with hives, but there have been quite a few posts reporting hives so thought it might be something some might want to keep an eye out for (thyroid problems). Julie, when my son started having horrific stomach problems, which may have been caused by something similar to what your daughter is going through, the gastro told me "he's young, he'll recover well," (after telling me that she thought that he had had a virus that had caused his digestive tract to stop functioning right). He did, and I pray this problem will pass quickly for your daughter too. Hang in there!
-
Julie, So sorry to hear things are so rough right now. I'm wondering if you could comment on something? Does your daughter have joint hypermobilty or is there any family history of connective tissue disorders? Miral valve problems? When scanning Wiki on "dysautonomia," I see the info on Ehlers-Danlos and other disorders that have been touched upon over the years. This is interesting too Neither of these things would rule out an infectious agent (autoimmunity) causing an increase in symptoms, just wondering if there are any dots to connect. One of our scholarly moms sent me a paper that might be of interest to you. I'll read it again and forward if it pertains.

BoyIowa, There is a phone # listed at the bottom of that article. That interview is older so I have no idea if he's still active in this research. eljomom, That's not a stupid question at all and yes there have been people who have used it. You could do a search of the forums and see what has been reported.

Patty, It looks like the school has the form that you can use but personally, I would not sign it with the language that is included regarding "unimmunized," children. http://vaclib.org/exempt/states/ca/FAQ-CDPH8261.htm You could use the form and just cross out that language. Or you can hand write or type the language that you do want to include. You can see on the website the stipulation that the form is not a requirement. There are other links there that can help give you more info. socalmom, I had you mixed up with someone who recently posted about her child being diagnosed with OMS. Sorry if I confused you!
-
socalmom, I have never seen this type of exemption letter posted before and I think you'll be glad to see it too. http://www.omsusa.org/Immunization%20Fact%20Sheet.pdf We urgently need more childhood conditions and consideration of family history (autoimmune disorders etc.) to be recoginized as problematic in this area so more parents have access to this type of thing. Mandates that could be devastating to a child need to be CURTAILED.

EAmom, You might like to read through this paper too. http://www.mendeley.com/research/gaba-acetylcholinerelated-gene-expression-blood-correlate-tic-severity-microarray-evidence-alternative-splicing-tourette-syndrome-pilot-study/#page-1 The alternative mechanisms on page 5 is interesting from a PANDAS perspective and basically along the sames lines of what Singh was discussing (effects of GABA etc. on immune cells). You will see Frank Sharp's name on this paper. He has a daughter affected by "TS," amd he mentions something about a best friend of his with an affected son in this video (i think). Here is another article explaining his view http://www.theaggie.org/2011/02/02/column-what-makes-tourettes-tic/ excerpt
