hi I know this may sound weird but has anyone investigated whether electromagnetic fields may be triggering his tics. It is something that may be a link between the car and the room at night? even a metallic spring mattress can fall into this category....my son slept much more peacefully on a cotton filled futon with wooden slat base also unplug all electric appliances in his room at night I know some kids tic more in new cars (maybe chemicals as trigger) Do you use any specific chemical cleaners in his room? any new carpeting or woodwork? pesticides?

Hi does he have a TS diagnosis? It would be very unusual for someone with Tourette to tic so while asleep as most often, sleep time is when tics subside in TS or are you saying he stays awake with tics at night? we found the epsom salts bath before bed helped with that

Chemar, a Question on B1 and B3......
Chemar replied to trggirl's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
I don't know the actual reason why...only that it seems to have that effect for my son My guess would be that it somehow acts on dopamine reduction or uptake etc...but that is pure speculation on my part. -
Chemar, a Question on B1 and B3......
Chemar replied to trggirl's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi we did not add extra B3(niacin) as my son is reactive to it...he is fine taking it in his multi but not extra, even the "no-flush" form he went on a missions trip to S America and we learned that taking extra B1 prevents mosquito bites,,,they are repelled by it. So he started taking it and we noticed an immediate reduction in tics. -
Hi sounds like you have done all the right stuff how typical of some doctors to discount anything they don't really know about! They can be soooooo arrogant!! I would be cautious about taking any meds for the dustmite allergy as that could bring its own variable negative effects...there is a coating ointment (I forget the name now) that can be used to lessen the effect in the nostrils. Some people also use a little vaseline. Butterbur is a herb that seems to be very helpful for allergies

PLEASE, how do I do an elimination diet?
Chemar replied to Wombat140's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
I ran a quick search on elimination diet and got 320 results for just the TS/tics forum alone. Be sure to enter just that search term, no quotes and select this forum I tried to post the link to my search result, but for some reason it glitches when one tries to click through to it food groups are essentially first the glutens and dairy, and then yes, things like nightshades, rosacea, salicylates and other common allergenic food groups Doing elimination under supervision by a nutritionist, allergy doc etc is usually the best way to go as they can guide you The Feingold diet has a lot of info as well -
Hi and welcome the most helpful supplement for tics is magnesium all the B vitamins are also recommended... B6 is often best used in the P-5-P form....50mg/day is recommended.....enteric coated is best Many parents like the Kids Calm Multi as it gives good magnesium plus a range of vitamins and minerals that kids need I have a link in my signature on what helped my son. He does have Tourette Syndrome though so until you know what is causing your child's tics, it's hard to know what to suggest Do take a look at our "helpful threads" pinned to the top of this board

PLEASE, how do I do an elimination diet?
Chemar replied to Wombat140's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Stopping eating everything would just make you very ill! The best way to test is to eliminate one food group at a time, see if things improve, then reintroduce foods from that group and see if it gets worse. That's the way we did it. There are other ways and if you do a search in the TS group you will find numerous threads discussing the details. here is a recent one http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=16453 -
Hi honestly, with that history of strep I would most definitely be investigating a PANDAS connection! Have you posted on our PANDAS board? Parents there may be able to help you with PANDAS literate physicians If it is TS, then nomatter what you do, sometimes "inexplicable" waxing can happen...

Hi Angel I am thinking you may be a bit confused about OCD The staring you do sounds more like OCD than a tic to me, but I am not 100% saying it isn't a tic...just that it seems more OCD You may want to do some reading up on OCD as it is not all about "rituals" and "irrational" thoughts, but can involve some pretty ordinary stuff too that just become "have to's" or "just right" and often tied to possible consequences etc Here are some helpful links about OCD for you http://www.latitudes...?showtopic=1963 and a quick quiz where you can test yourself for OCD http://psychcentral.com/ocdquiz.htm so sorry to hear you have been bullied! If people are threatening you physically, you should be sure a responsible adult knows about it and if needed, let the cops know.

Picked up some magnesium taurate at Vitamin Shoppe
Chemar replied to guy123's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Guy magnesium does promote relaxation but it is not an actual sleep inducer per se But perhaps as you are new to taking it, and combined with the taurine, it may be having a maximal relaxant effect? The dose for magnesium should be around 300-500mg a day and for taurine 500mg a day from what we were told. We have never used the combo -
Hi as your question was specifically related to the taking of zyrtec and tics, I just wanted to say that yes, some parents have reported that certain allergy meds can increase tics, but you would need to do a search on the forum for the posts as I don't recall which allergy meds were specified. Where I agree that it is always worth investigating whether there is a possible infection trigger for tics etc, there are MANY children represented here who tic because of other factors..... so not every child that exhibits tics or OCD etc has PANDAS/PANS/PITAND etc. Leave no stone unturned in seeking answers.

thenmama you may want to hold off until the new version of the forums is released in the near future when the new website is unveiled and then see what may or may not still be needed.

Hi the only way you can upload photos here is if they are "hosted" on the web...ie in a photo album that you can link to. Then you can either post them in a Private Message or on a post by clicking the little picture icon in the tool bar box of each post or PM . You just click it and then add the URL link to the image, wherever it is hosted. Photobucket has free albums as do many other sites hope that helps

My son did not test allergic to any foods, but we have found numerous sensitivities since doing elimination diets. We removed dairy and gluten first, then added each back in and found both caused exacerbation of his Crohn's symptoms Similarly high fructose and high histamine foods Interestingly, foods that he was not reactive to years ago are now so things can change. here is Dr Weil's advice http://www.drweil.co...ntolerance.html Jordan Rubin's book The Maker's Diet" has been very helpful for us (tho we skip the hyping of his products and specific diet) and use the book just a s a guideline
