  1. Kim, Thank you very much that really helps explains a lot. I'm wondering if my husband has out grown his TS because he has out grown some of the allergies he had as a kid. Son's Kynurenate was high on his profile. Xanthurenate was high also and B6 is mentioned for intervention with that too. What I find interesting is the Common Metabolic Association For the Xanthurenate it is (impaired Tryptophan metabolism) for the Kynurnate (Receptor antagonist) I think I understand why my son is to eat meat three times a day. The exercise may be helping my son too. He started lifting last year but was not into it every other day like he has been for the last 5 months. He is going on three week since we started the B6 I just opened the capsule and gave him a little at a time for a week. now he is on the 50mg. It is P5P/PAX 25mg of each. Thanks again I think this info will be helpful to a lot of parents. C.P. P.S. Yes, Faith he is still doing good, maybe even a little better.
  2. kkver, Welcome... You will find a lot of support here. I'm glad your looking for answers. I hope the vitamins work quickly for your son. I really hope your Dr. is right and this will clear up for him. Soak up as much info as you can here, and take it slow. C.P.
  3. Loren, I don't know too much about PANDAS, but I'm very interested. All I know about the tests are the ASO titer rises 3 to 6 weeks after a strep infection. The AntiDNASe-B titer rises after 6 to 8 weeks after a strep infection. I believe if one is high the child has had strep sometime in the past few months. The body is producing antibodies to fight off the strep. (I mostly understand things in laymens terms, so I hope that helps a little until someone with more knowledge pops in) I remember the first ped. we saw did not test my son for PANDAS because he knew my husband had TS as a child. He also told me he could walk into any school and 1/2 the kids would test positive for strep. (I don't know what that means.) When I demanded the test be done it was a year after the explosion. I have no idea if my son ever had strep. His titers were very low. 6 for one and less then 60 for the other. I'm mostly curious because how much PANDAS and TS are alike. Thanks for sharing your info when you get them. C.P.
  4. Hi Loren, What were the numbers for the tests? Did she say? I had to call my Ped. to get the # because he just left a message saying negative. C.P.
  5. Hi Guys, We have noticed the B6 is really helping. I need help understanding what it is doing, in reguards to sarotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. I understand my son takes the Risperdal to lower the dopamine. If the B6 is helping what is it doing? The norepinephrine from what I read seems to be a problem with the stress factors in my sons life. Is the B6 balancing all three out, or working on one? Next question... Bonnie's supps. have a 90 plus pound person could take 20 capsules of her product. Does that mean it would be ok for our son to take 100mg of B6? I'm also wondering how much the meds is effecting the absorbtion of the B6? Thanks C.P.
  6. YES! YES! I was told once to give all my troubles to Our Lady of Sorrows, and unite my pain with the sorrow She felt during the Passion. WOW!!! What a powerful journey... to walk in her shoes... now that is pain and suffering. We have all our answers in our hands... we just have to fold them... then... watch and see how God takes the sting out of all our troubles. For what ever the reason... God put us all in this season together. God Bless you all. C.P.
  7. Mike, Last year my son would tic a lot on the ball field. I thought it was the sun, because he would look at the sun. Or maybe it was treated fields. I just could not put my finger on it. He had practice Sat. and he did not do anything out of the norm for a ball player. He looked and acted just like every other boy out there. I'm wondering if the age has something to do with everything looking like a trigger. What I mean is, maybe their hormones take over so much, that every little thing triggers a tic. I just can't understand what I thought was a problem last year seems to not to be the case this year. Faith... I'll be wondering about Aug. this year. Bad thing for him is the 8th grade was pulled from the middle school and now he has to go to a different school next fall. So again I won't know if it is school or GOLDENROD! Another thing to add to my growing list of unlikeables. C.P.
  8. Hi Deanna, My son takes the Natural Calm (no flavoring) amount pre serving... 3 teaspoon is 615mg. So if I want to give him one teaspoon it's only 205mg. So if the kids calm says 85mg per 1/2 teaspoon, that should be what it is for every 1/2 teaspoon. My son is 13 and only 90 pounds he does great on the 615mg of mag. In fact he still tested low in magnesium. Just wanted you to know what my son takes since our boys are very close in weight. I hope you all have good results with the Natural calm. C.P.
  9. THE EXPLOSION CAME AT 12. C.P.
  10. Hey Faith, My son tested allergic to goldenrod, and last Aug. the vocals turned to screaming. I don't know if it is that or nerves for the start of school. I do know he never had an increase in the past during that time of year, or I guess I would have known about the TS before age 12. He does not have runny nose or ichy eyes, so can't say for sure it was not the age that caused the waxing. C.P.
  11. OH GOSH! Thanks Kim, I'm going to go cry... I think I'll have to through away my youngest's polly pockets. Thank you so much, C.P.
  12. Petb I use baking soda a lot with no problems with our son. C.P.
  13. YAHOO!!! NO CAVITIES!!! Dentist is pushing dental sealents, what is your take on this subject? She would like to do all my kids. I hate this, and would like to take our chances, or I'll worry in 20 years some study will come out about sealents and cancer. C.P.
  14. Gina, Hi... I'm so sorry to hear your son is having a bad spell right now. I do hope it passes quickly, for all of you. I wanted to ask about the Juice Plus. Which one does he take? (Adult/child) (Chewables/gummy/capsules) The reason I ask is I have the chewables, and when I was told about hidden MSG (maltodextrin and natural flavers) ars listed as ingredients in the chewables. I don't know about the gummy, but the capsules don't list any hidden MSG words. I did talk to our sales rep. about it, and she called the company they said Juice Plus has NO MSG!!! I just wanted to put that out there for you. I can't bring myself to give my son the Juice Plus based on their word. I was also wondering if your son was normal height/weight for his age. My son is small for his age and has always been growth wise about 2 years younger. Having said that, he is 13... 4'10 and 90lb. I thought mayby if I shared what he is taking you might want to tweek his supps a bit. Multi Calcium 1000mg mag 615mg (Natural Calm) Zink 50mg Vit E 400IU with Selenium 100mcg B6 p5p 50mg (just started that last week) another miracle vit for him, he is doing great again. I think I can rule out spring as the cause of the increase 2 weeks ago. I have others to add, but I'm taking it real slow. C.P.
  15. Kim, That explains why she rolled her eyes when I told her he had been tested for yeast. (yep... blood) Thanks for all your help, I'll start him on the probotics real soon. C.P.
  16. Hi itsme, I was wondering how old your son is? Just checking the ages of onset, and explosive tic ages. My son had some kind of deep breathing tic, but strange thing about it he would only do it while we were having our family prayer time. It was like reading prayers or praying out loud would set it off. He has not done that in a long time, and he is such a good reader, he tells me his teachers call on him all the time to read out loud to the class. What ever that was is gone now. So hopefully that will come and go soon. I was also wondering if you have a diet plan for yourself? If yes has it helped your TS? My husband has TS too, and he has never changed his diet, and the tics he has are just about nothing. Could you tell us how you have out-grown your TS, or are they still present? C.P.
  17. Hi AJ, I'm so happy to hear you are very calm. That will be the best thing for your daughter. Reading your post encouraged me, because I have wondered how my girls would handle having a child with TS. They are so good with their brother now I'm sure they will be OK, after reading your post I'm really sure TS won't upset them as it did me. I think my son started his tics with eye rolling. I remember at swim lessons he did it, but I thought it was the pool water. It did not last long, and changed to a kissing noise that came and went. We thought he was being silly. I would start with her diet, that is always a good thing, TS or not. Good luck, C.P.
  18. Kim, Thanks... The yeast was done by the ped. last Oct. He just left me a message, and said it was normal. This is the first test done by this Dr. Does she think it is creeping up because 32 starts in the orange color? All the high numbers are in the orange. He had high Hippurate (764) she said that was ok, high Hippurate keeps Benzoate low. His Benzoate (1) and p-Hydroxphenylacetate (4) C.P.
  19. Hi guys, Need advice on this question. Son's Calcium is in a good range, while he is still low in mag. He is taking the 615mg daily of the mag from Natural Calm, and 1000mg calcium citrate. My question is... should his calcium be lowered? Or... should I leave the calcium at 1000mg daily, and just up the magnesium? Thanks for your help, C.P.
  20. Petb, The only reason I had my son tested for PANDAS was to rule it out, and peace of mind. I could never get past the fact he had never tested positive for strep. ( quick 10 min test) I remember the Dr. wanting to rule out Lyme too. I had not thought of that at the time. I think... if it gives you peace of mind go for it. Kim, was wondering what you thought of my sons Metametrix bacterial #s D-Lactate 0.5 Dihydroxyphenylpropionate 0.16 D-Arbinitol 27 Thanks, C.P.
  21. Never thought to check, Carolyn, thanks for letting us know, C.P.
  22. Faith, I would say the school was walking on egg shells. The county I live in seems to have a millonaire around every corner. (I had to laugh, once a study came out on incomes in this county my husband was in the poverty range. And hear I always thought he made good money?!?) I think they are afraid to say anything, just asked probing questions, so you knew what they are getting at. I think a lawsuit is what scares them. I don't think they exagerated, he was pretty bad. My son does very well on the meds no side effects, he used to get sleepy, but not anymore. C.P.
  23. Loren, I'm glad your mad about this, I think that is good. You will get results, where as all I did was mopped the bathroom floor with my tears. We did the PANDAS tests too for the same reason, RULE IT OUT!! I knew my husband hat TS by that time, so in the back of my mind I knew it was in the genes. I didn't care I wanted the test done anyway. Our ped. looked at me funny, but didn't say, no to the tests. You keep going girl, C.P.
  24. Faith, just had to share our school experience. Last fall when he was screeming, I got the phone call the second day of school. They knew about it from the year before, but it was real bad in Sept. They were calling me twice a week. When we sat down for a meeting, his math teacher said, " I can hear him in my class when he is in his science class." (down the hall) Like I don't know how loud my son is, Duh. Well we knew we would have to give up the fight the natural way after a 11 months, and put him on something. So Oct. we did... I have not had a call from anyone at that school since. I made sure I told them the Dr. said it would only take away about 50% of the vocal. He said not much medication works on vocal tics. Well they got their 50% or better and I guess don't have much else to say to me. I think thats all they wanted was to know he was on something. I guess it is harder for your son's teacher he has her/him all day? Mine has 7 teachers for all the subjects, and then it is only every other day they have him. What really got me was the blank looks we got, My husband and I were like... WHAT YOU ALL TOOK CHILD PSYC. YOU TELL US HOW YOUR GOING TO HANDLE THIS!!! We have a meeting April 11th, wondering how that will go? Good luck. I'll let you know how are meeting goes. C.P.
  25. Mike, Last year my son was jumping and yelling all over the baseball field. We though about pulling him too. I was so nervous, I was sure he would be hit in the face because his head turned, but he always made the plays when the ball came to him. (he plays second) Right now he is not doing good, first year in Babe Ruth, and he has been lifting weights all winter. He can't wait to get out there a show how strong he is. He is a little guy only 4'10 and 90 lb (at 13) but is a good ball player. I think it is one of the best outlets for him, and he gets alot of respect from other boys because of his talent. I do believe that helps in a hugh way for the self-esteem. Good luck and I hope he has a great season. C.P.
