OK... It has been over a year that my son has been to the dentist. mostly because the TS was so bad I didn't think he could handle sitting in the chair, or thought he would have a ticcing spell with the tools in his mouth. Since he has been doing so well I thought I would squeeze that app. in while I had the chance. He has never had a cavity, and I wanted you all to educate me on what to do if he has one. I was wondering too about x-rays are they bad? Should I expect an increase in tics just because he is getting a cleaning. Thanks for your advice, C.P.

Deavyin, Welcome... I wanted to tell you I appreciate your post. The Lord knows in the beginning I was so stressed out I made the mistake of punishing my son for his very loud vocal tics. I would send him to his room because I didn't understand they could be that loud. I thought he did them on purpose, and that set me off. I believe it was not understanding TS, shock, and total helplessness. I know this won't be the last time I make a mistake, but hope they are far and few between. I pray everday for the graces needed to make the right choices. Faith, I so much connected with your post. My son has a life threatening allergy to peanuts, and I would go to the ends of the earth to make sure he doesn't eat anything that could cause him harm. What he can't have I spend hours making. As a Christian mother I would take away anything I thought was detrimental to my child's soul. These are my own views, but I do believe a lot of TV shows are pathetic filth, and some videos control our children's minds. You are right the lastest gadget just takes our kids away from the family. I love the fact my girls love a good book. Funny thing... we just played Blurt last night my daughter laughed so hard her stomach hurt, and the other one thought she would pee her pants. I get a kick out of listening to my son laugh his voice is changing/cracking. Thank you for being the voice to help us parents persevere in our good intentions, that gives us hope for the future. God Bless, C.P. -

I saw a cartoon yesterday of two kids sitting in front of a trash can that had TV rabbit ears attached to the trash can. That really sums up how I feel about screens of any kind. You said your son goes to a private school. I know my kids would share with their friends what they were giving up for the Lenten Season when they were in private school. If you are Christians maybe he would feel proud to set aside the TV/computer for the faith for a time. My kids feel really happy to give stuff up, and find out they didn't really need this or that as much as they thought they would die without it. C.P. -

Hi Mary, Wanted to welcome you. I also was told by my son's guidance department that learning takes a back seat to growth, and boys are really affected. If your son is going through a pre-teen growth spell this might be why he is not having the attention he had in the past. This was true for my son, and he struggled for about a year, if you can call getting 2 C's a struggle. He was getting all A's, so he knew something was not right. Then things got better for him and he is an A/B student now, and is happy with those grades. It just seem to make sense about the growth taking over, and their brain keeping up. You could try him on the Kids Calm. Just wondering... why does your son take fluoride pills? C.P. -
8 year old boy with transient tics

Chemar, About the yogurt/kefir in our case. For about 3 years my son had a wort on his leg. Then last year when things really exploded his wort became worts. I have been giving him Kefir for about 8 months and before that plain yogurt. His worts slowly went away. I was told worts were a virus of some kind. I'm wondering if the kefir gave his immune system something it needed to fight off the worts. What do you think? Also I got a free sample of raw milk to try, is there any reason you can think of that the raw milk might increase tics? Any info you might have would be great. I'm just wondering because of the bovine liver problem we had. Thanks a bunch C.P. -

Faith.... once again... the same on our end. Large tonsils and small weight. No PANDAS here, Titers are very low, if that means no strep. About the Iron he is only deficient. Very healthy boy, superstar in PE. He is so healthy I find it hard to believe he is deficient in anything. My husband was the same too. Oh and the same for husband about the tonsils and small build... NOT SMALL ANYMORE. (HEE HEE) Must be all the boxing he does with our son. C.P. -

Hi, I read a Dr. in NYC does brain music therapy. It is said to help with brain disorters. The therapy is, it recordes a person's brain waves by using an EEG. The recorded brain waves are comstomized to musical sounds, from that persons brain waves. It is said to help with anxitety, depression, ADHD, ect. It originated in Europe, was wondering if anyone has heard of it? I thought this was interesting (don't live near NYC tho) I know I am much more relaxed when I listen to music. I have noticed my son doesn't tic as much when he has his headphones on. Is this something like Biofeedback? C.P.

Thanks Chemar, I'm glad you told me your son tics more with Iron, I feel better knowing my son may have been aware enough to think it was the Floradix. C.P.

Hi, Last fall our son was deficient in Iron, I baught all Iron cookware, hoping that would help. Well two weeks ago he was tested again and still has a deficiency. I started him on Floradix Iron with B vitamins. I did not see any real noticable ticcing last week, but for the last 2 or 3 days he has been more vocal. I asked him what he thought, and he thinks it might be the floradix. The B vit. are very small amounts. So not sure which it could be. The tolal iron is 10mg, but he also gets 10mg in his multi. About 112% of daily between the two. Do you think he should not have both even though the iron in the multi didn't help with the deficiency in the second test? Thanks for your help. C.P.

Just Curious..... My son's ASO titer was tested less then 6, and his Anti Dnase B was less then 60. Does this mean strep has never been present? C.P.

HELP! My husband baught our son a model plane & sub kit. I said no because of the glue. My husband didn't agree at first, but because it upset me so much he said he would put them together at work. Now my son wants them to play with. I'm just not sure, is the glue still going to cause a problem? I feel bad, my husband really wanted to put them together with our son. Do you think it would be OK for him to have the toys now that the glue is dry? Thanks Guys C.P.

Faith, I was positive for strep B while pregnant with my son too. He has never had strep throat. He did have his titers checked and the Dr. said it was in the normal range. I didn't ask what # it was. C.P.

OH..... I do have his book, forgot about that... thanks Chemar. C.P. -
Hi all, I ordered Alaskan seafood from Vital choice, and was wondering if anyone else has ordered seafood/beef/chicken online? I was hoping to get more web choices if any of you have done this, and like a company for their organic quality? Vital Choice had salmon, halibut, and tuna that we would like. I really have a hard time in the store picking out fish because it all looks so old to me. Thanks guys C.P.

Please help in explaining testing/treatments
Cum Passus replied to faith's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Faith, As mothers we dedicate our lives to our children's personal, academic, social, and spiritual development. Put in writing the reasons why you want to do alt. treatments. This will help clarify your goals, strengthen your thinking, and your resolve. Even if your only reason is because you love your child more then anyone. Your child looks into your eyes and sees, You are love. To him you are a living St. Valentine. God Bless C.P. -

Hi all, If anyone could let me know about the amino acid question I had I would be most grateful. I was wondering about the amino acids coming from a natural source like Royal Jelly or aloe vera. I understand Chemar said not to give a comprehensive amino acid to someone with TS. I just do not know what comprehensive means. Is it all amino acids in all forms or is it a form of compound amino acids in a supplement that is not good for TS. Thank you, C.P. -
Hi Vicki linn, Welcome, Thank you for sharing how you feel. Last year was so bad for me emotionally. It's hard because as parents we have to still parent, and keep our kids on the right track to becoming wonderful adults. I struggle with the 13 yr old attitude with my son. Sometimes he makes it hard to understand his TS. He really is a good boy, and I have to pick my battles with him. I know I have been through so meny stages with this, and I learned so much as time goes on. I just realized something new this past Sunday. Our son was screeming last year and we had to have him sit outside the main church. I remember when the tics started to get loud people would turn and look at him. he has been doing well for 2 months now, and we let him decide when he wanted to sit in church again. Well he did it this past Sunday, and I was remembering when people would turn and look at him for ticcing. What I realized was the lady next to him was chewing gum. The woman behind us took a phone call. And a young girl was dressed indecent for church. Was anyone looking at them? NO! I would remove him again if he ever started the screaming tic again, but I know now not to worry about the little noise he makes because they are not that bad, and if people want to look at him then so be it. I admit I move in baby steps, but I do believe I'll get a complete handle on this. I know you will too, when the time is right for you. Glad your here, C.P.

Thanks Chemar, Could you tell me what comprehensive means? The bottle says its food based. How would I know if the amino acids came from the aloe juice added? I guess mean kind of like Royal Jelly, it has amino acids in it, would those kind of amino acids be OK? Thank you so much, it is such a comfort to have you help me understand. C.P. -
John, My son is 13 so we use the plain Mag supplement. (no other stuff added) I squeeze a little lemon in it. I think if my son was 8 I might use the Kids calm. I think you would be fine with either one. The mag dose in the Natural calm is 615mg for 3 teaspoons. I do not know the (mg) for the kids calm. I think the others are just flavored, but have same 615mg dose. Good Luck C.P.

Hi all, I got the Peter Gillham's Liquid Vitamins today, and I have questions about the amino acid complex. It list a host of them and I wanted you all to let me know if you saw any red flags regarding the effect on tics. I remember reading , and have in my notes glutamine not good for tics. Is that the same thing as L- Glutamine? And Aspartic as a big no, no, Is that the same as L-Aspartic Acid? The complex is: L-Alanine L-Arginine L-Aspartic Acid L-Cysteine HCI L-Cystine L-Glutamic L-glutamine Glycine L-Histidine L-Isoleucine L-Leucine L-Lysine HCI L-Methionine L-Phenylalanine L-Proline L-serine taurine L-threonine L-Tyrosine L-Valine The total amino acid complex is 50mg. Thank you for helping me understand this. C.P.

O.K. I have Organic Valley Raw Milk Cheese. It says enzymes as an ingredient, does that mean it is MSG? Or does that mean because it is raw milk cheese the natural enzymes are there? Sorry if that is a stupid question I just want to make sure. Thanks Chamer my son loves tomatoes and would hate to give them up. Great web sight I copied all the Old Fashioned Remedies. C.P.
