Doxy ineffective if lyme was around since a child?
SSS replied to MamaOnAMission's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
Huh. I did not know that. I would have preferred my daughter to start on Doxy. -
Doxy ineffective if lyme was around since a child?
SSS replied to MamaOnAMission's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
I have never heard that, typically Doxy is the first line antibiotic, however it does need to be given at the correct dosage (high enough) and it is not given to children under 12. Given to adults for treating Lyme, it is typically given with another antibiotic. No offense, but I don't think a chiropractor will have a clue- -
Maybe he needs a different anti-viral medication? Famvir, or Valtrex, etc.? I have heard individuals respond to certain ones better than others.

We also got 150 mg caps from Costco, given 2x a day for dd6. I weigh around 103-105 and took 300 mg caps 2x a day.

Hi eljomom- I have read your feelings/reservations on Lyme- I feel a little hesitant, but will answer to the best of my ability. I tend to be research obsessive. When I saw the p23 positive from Labcorp, but the test was deemed negative, I really, really wanted to let it go. I couldn't. I scoured everything I could find. What I found were 2 famous long time LLMD's had opinions on this matter. One literally said: If you have positive p23, you are positive for Lyme. The other LLMD, who uses different labs over the years for lyme testing, said: Labcorp will show the p23 if you have Lyme, Igenex the 31 bands. Obviously, this is a generalization, not a scientific fact. And please for the love of God, if someone does a Labcorp and p23 is negative, do not think you don't have Lyme. What I could not get my head around was HOW could a Lyme ONLY bacteria band show positive if there was not Lyme in the body?? So, I went on to do an Igenex test for dd, and again, multiple Lyme only bacteria bands were positive. LLMD suggested I get tested- I had a very clear positive for bartonella, and a Lyme PCR blood test done (literally see it in the blood) show up, positive.

Hi Maggiesmoon- this is just MY experience, of course. My dd6 has made some solid gains in re: to OCD- it is very mild now (has to be 'first' that is about it now) She used to have deep OCD around clothing and intrusive thoughts. She is doing well in school. She is not 100% we have some vocal tic issues, what I call copralalia at times, and periods of impulsivity (at home) that she can't/couldn't seem to control- but from where we were a year ago, when we had exorcist rages and breakdowns, where I didn't know if I should call an ambulance or not, or fear of taking her out with me, because she'd start walking the lines in the parking lot, and then bolt from me, I'd be chasing her with cars everywhere, then forcing her into her car seat while she fought and screamed, and I was sure someone was going to call the police- Whew- I'd say things are better! But she is not well. She has some quite serious and nasty, hard to eradicate buried in the body, infections. We were in such dire straights, yes indeed I did want IVIG. And I couldn't help but hope 1 would be a ticket to turn it all around for us. It wasn't. Also, we just kept backsliding- I had heard the parent testimonies here about finding Lyme after pandas treatment were not sustaining- I really did think no way in the world. I found a Labcorp western blot online for $69 without a Dr. signature required (and I am not recommending this for Lyme testing, this is just my story) came back to me she had a positive p23, Lyme specifically bacteria only. I was floored. Went on to do Igenex testing. Went to a LLMD. Here we are--- I wish you the best. All of are paths are not exactly the same. It is a hard journey.

By the way, on your DS's hard time at the Dr. office- I do think it is 'good' for them to see it- at our appts. my dd just sits and stares at the window- and I sometimes have a hard time describing in front of her what it is 'really' like- had an emergency phone appt. with our Dr. from home recently, while she was at school, and boy did I lay it on the line very descriptively, lol. Although not really that funny.

My dd6 was also Azith. dependent, and currently backslides big time on no antibiotic. She does not have clostridia (which your flagyl will take care of, btw, if it's there.) She is 6, and right now is on 250 mg a day, with another antibiotic (septra) but prescribing dose of Azith. for her was usually 200 mg- she weighs between 42-45 pounds, give/take.

It's good to hear from you, wondering how you have been- sorry about the babesia- I am also coming to grips that this is something that probabably needs to be treated soon, and very nervous about that, too. But, what I read is can't ever really get well unless this is treated if you have it. Hang in there---I won't ask you how the mold thing is going ;-)

I recommend doing a Western Blot Lyme test from Igenex- other Western Blots, like the one from Labcorp, leave out important bands that are Lyme only specific. You already have a Lyme seed planted in your brain- me, it would continue to fester and clang around in the back until ruling it out for sure. My dd6 did not have any lasting relief from strep pandas treatments- but by God, she had every single Pandas symptom in the book- was clinically dx'd with it- Azith. was a miracle drug at first- after 4 weeks, major backslide. Tried other single only antibiotics for pandas=nothing. Did 2 HD-IVIG's- first was a nightmare of herx, 2nd one 5 weeks later, was bliss! Calm, happy- then it all faded back to square 1 in 6 weeks when it wore off and left the body. Of course, I heard of Lyme around here. I thought: no way. Too far out there, cannot be. 3 months after the last IVIG, I sent in a Labcorp Western Blot I bought off the Internet, on a whim. Came back 1 band only, p23 positive, which is a Lyme ONLY bacteria band. I would have been remiss if I didn't check further. Ordered an Igenex test- had our DAN Dr. at the time sign it for me- it came back lit up with Lyme only bacteria bands. That is when I decided to go to an LLMD for help- the rest is history. All that to say: Why not just rule it out? ((hugs)) I know how hard it is for you right now- sending PV's---

I am so sorry about the breast cancer-- sending positive and healing thoughts-- Thanks for the Lyme update, very encouraging. Take it easy---- S.

I had INSANE itching on my my arms some months back, and I'd itch, and it made it worse- my Dr. told me I wasn't 'detoxing' enough- I started doing nightly hot Epsom salt and dead sea salt baths, it helped- this phase has now passed. Parasite symptoms in children: Constant eating- most likely without weight gain. Grinding teeth, chewing fingernails. Itchy bum. Note around full moon time of the month when parasites multiply; is behavior worse? Night waking. (there are others, this is all I can think of for now) It is hard to get a test for parasites- often missed. Metamatrix stool test came back on dd: parasites yes, but species unknown. We have done rounds of parasite protocols.

I totally agree with the statement you can not know about a leaky gut/ or issues. I have personally found you can live with an ailment of some sort, you don't know any different, it becomes your normal, and only when you start to heal and get better, you look back and can 'see', and realize you really had no clue there was a different way. We did a 4-5 day steroid burst with my dd, and it was completely awful. Never again. I also think the steroids she got with her 2 IVIG's made her stomach clench up, and flaired bacterial/yeast growth that was already there.

I read the article, and the whole thing just underscores the insanity and plight we've all been through. At least this illness is 'getting out there' so hopefully, a parent with a newly afflicted child may say to themselves: Hmm, this looks like that PANDAS thing I read/heard about. Pray tell they do not run to their pediatrian to be told: 'It's just stress.' I feel so frustrated following this story. This illness is REAL and it is he!!.

Hi- Humaworm is an herbal protocol available online. Our Dr.'s treatment, based on weight, is: Albendazole taken 2x a day for 7 days On the last day, day 7, also take a 1 time dose of 3 pills of Ivermectin (Stromecol) off for 10 days - then repeat on for 7 days, off for 10, repeat. (Total of 3 times) I know parasites are beyond gross to talk about, but it is estimated just about everyone has them, but for Lyme folk... yeah, I think it is important. I didn't know about Lyme last summer, but we have always had funky gastric issues- yeast, etc.
-
**Dd has had 3 rounds of parasite treatment, I just started my 2nd round (pharmaceutical protocol) I did Humaworm last summer, meant for dd, but herbs don't always agree with her, so I doubled her dose and took it, got some adult Humaworm for DH at the same time (good sport) I think it is very important.

Super sensitive to Medications and Supps.

I forgot binders to mop up the junk- given 2 hours away from antibiotics and supplements- like charcoal, bentonite capsules, etc. And I'm sure you are giving a high quality, higher dose probiotic, too, 2 hours from antibiotics. -

Are you doing anything for detox? As you give the antibiotics and it kills bacteria and releases neurotoxins, the bad reactions or 'herx' can be helped with detox. Things like making sure the bowels are moving, milk thistle, ala, glutathione for liver support, Epsom salt baths or cream rubbed in, exercise or something to produce sweat, lots of water drinking, can add lemon, there are some herbal and homeopathic remedies to help the body drain, etc. -
Momcap, we went through the exact same thing. Personally, my own conclusion, I am no longer comfortable, nor was I ever anyway, doing a pulse type of thing (us) in the first year of Lyme treatment.

Hopefully, and probably, Dr. T did pull the same blood tests/ cultures on all the girls, and will run them all through the same labs.

Good stuff! Enjoy and learn from the updates, appreciate it. -
Everyone has replied excellent and wise, which I am not feeling today, but I feel compelled to say I swear feral cats were my own downfall. Although I have been a hiker all my life (no more!) I had never pulled off a tick (and I know that can mean squat) But, 14-15 years ago, living in a little place backed up to hills/woods, I tamed and started feeding a mama feral cat and her kittens outside my front door-picked them up, petted them, scratched, probably bit, and fleas can transmit. I can trace bartonella symptoms from there. I am no longer a cat lover (and have no pets) You'll be okay--- hate to say welcome, but welcome.

Hi- We have Bab-1, and some others, using them on and off. I think everyone responds a little different to these herbal tinctures- if you go too high (drops) too fast you can always go back down.
