Igenex test back but I have to wait 4 results. Ugh!
philamom replied to Wilma Jenks's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
Be sure to ask for a copy of the results, even if negative. Sometimes a negative result might need further review. -
My daughter has recently been complaining of tingling in her forearms.

Started treatment for MYSELF today
philamom replied to pixiesmommy's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
pixiesmommy- I am on day 69 of doxy (although, the dose is too low -- 100mg am/pm) and go thru cycles of different symptoms. First it was severe thigh pain, then it was oval shaped itchy rashes, and now I am getting constant headaches. I still have achy pains and itchy rashes...just not as bad. I also get very groggy in the morning with the use of Melatonin, but I've been using Source Naturals Melatonin Sublingual with no problems. I just use one tablet (1 mg). Of course, if you are in a lot of discomfort I doubt it would work. -

laure- I'm sure kmom will chime in, but Dr. J does not address detox or supplements, at least not in our experience. kmom- it's wonderful to hear things are going well for your children! Thanks for posting their regime. Do you use a specific vitamin D?

Can you get a positive streptozyme test from exposure alone? Or does it mean infection? My dd had a positive streptozyme result (along with increased symptoms) recently. She is on a combo of antibiotics for Lyme. One of them is daily Zith 250mg.
-
No, I don't think it's wrong. My dd's tooth is just slightly loose...she wants to rock it back and forth while breaking the skin, just to get it out. It is ironic, because I would think with hoarding symptoms she would be more inclined to try and keep it. I think that's why she always had issues with blood draws, besides the anxiety of course.
-
Jill- Glad to hear whatever it was - it was short lived. My daughter told me two days after her recent ivig that she has a loose tooth {cringe}. I'm sure it's adding fuel to the fire. She also obsesses about wanting it out of her mouth. I recently told her the store was out of apples because she keeps asking for them to help yank it out. She looked at me like I was crazy. Yup, I told her there must have been a previous sale on all apples. I know...pathetic! I am in no hurry for the tooth to come out. Nice to hear the Kumon is working for you! Melinda

Who here isn't entirely sure their child even has PANDAS?
philamom replied to a topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
Here is an excerpt of an email I received a year and a half ago (Sept 2009) from one of the PANDAS doctors. It was 3 months after my dd's first IVIG. "As I have gone over (my daughter) medical documentation I was not able to think of ANY OTHER condition that would result in her clinical presentation. If anyone has been a CLASSIC PANDAS, (my daughter) appears to be certainly one of those." A year later we uncovered lyme & co-infections as well. -
Igenex insurance reimbursement
philamom replied to GraceUnderPressure's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
We just received reimbursement for our most recent Igenex Western Blot, and again, it was not paid properly. This is our 4th time running this test, and, once again they didn't apply the modifier code. I even highlighted it. I think they do it on purpose...and hope you won't fight the charge. -

Sandy Berenbaum, LCSW, BCD, Lyme-Literate Psychotherapist Family Connections Center For Counseling Offices in Brewster, NY and Southbury, CT • Phone: (203) 240-7787 My Articles Boundaries 101 for Lyme Patients (pdf file) When chronic Lyme disease patients are diagnosed, they enter a different world. The lack of understanding of the complexities of this illness outside of the Lyme community makes it important for patients and families with Lyme disease to establish boundaries, to set limits with those around them who do not understand what they are going through, to protect their time and energy, and to get the support they need. Here I discuss the boundary issues, and offer strategy for dealing with these issues when they come up. Kids and Lyme Disease: How It Affects Their Learning (pdf file) Lyme disease can have a profound affect on a child’s ability to learn. This article discusses the complexity of the problems that children with chronic Lyme face in the school environment and what can be done to support them. Tick-Borne Disease in Children and Adolescents: A Medical Illness/A Multidisciplinary “Cure” (pdf file) Lyme is a complex illness that, when chronic, often effects the brain, causing impairments in mood, cognition and attention. An integrated, or team approach to treating Lyme patients can provide help, support, and solutions to problems generated by the illness, beyond the medical treatment itself. Reflections on Lyme Disease in the Family (pdf file) Lyme disease in a child or adolescent can have a profound effect on a family. This article touches on some of the issues that face parents and offers parenting strategies to help ease the journey. Lyme Disease Screening Protocol (pdf file) This is a simple screening tool I developed with my former co-therapist Lynne Canon, now retired. It was designed to help mental health practitioners determine whether Lyme disease could be an underlying cause of presenting problems among children or adolescents. Our hope is that by using this tool more cases of Lyme disease may be recognized by mental health practitioners, resulting in earlier medical diagnosis and the need for less complex and lengthy treatment. If a tick-borne illness is present, comprehensive medical treatment can lead to more successful resolution of mental health problems, as well. Identifying Lyme Disease in the Schools (pdf file) Education regarding Lyme disease is an important service we can provide to our schools. This handout can help teachers, nurses and guidance counselors identify children who may have Lyme, leading to early diagnosis and treatment. Since Lyme disease can have a profound impact on a child’s ability to learn, school professionals have a different view of the child than the parents or pediatrician might. How to know if rash is a herx or allergy?
philamom replied to dabel's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
I'm two months into a prescription of doxy (100 bid) and have been getting (lemon size) vey itchy rashes on my torso, back and buttocks. One of the rashes was there prior to treatment, but has intensified. The only thing I've tried that brings (minimal) relief is benadryl cream. I'm itchy all day. A friend mentioned dabbing vinegar on them...I'm desperate for relief...might give it a try at bedtime. -

What did? D: & thank you!!! Your Lyme pamphlets were a HUGE help to my parents! That spiral microbe...it made my hair stand up . I think we have enough microbes in this house.

You could call Igenex - I know they do test them. I agree with dc mom about considering a round of abx. Nice site-- I was looking for inexpensive (treated) clothing for my daughter and found some mentioned. Thanks!
