  1. This is our second weekend with the DMSA treatments. My son went to a party today. He goes to alot of parties. We live in a wonderful part of the world were children still have childhoods. However, this was the first party that I could remember seeing him with no excitment induced tics. He also watched a hour of TV this morning as a postive reinforcement for taking the DMSA and this was the second weekend in a row of no TV induced tics. I have my fingers crossed for this is usually a very hard time of the year for him in the past and so far it is the best that he has been doing since I could remember. We are doing alot of other things besides the DMPS IV and the DMSA supposortories but I feel that the detoxing is really doing the job now and may be the missing piece I was looking for. I would like to point out that DMPS lotion has alot of great research results and fantastic parent responses and that NDF is something that should be looked at by those with no stomach issues. NDF, if it is the real thing, would be the best and safest detox out there.
  2. Alison, this whole thing sucks but at least everyone here is doing something and not accepting the status quo of the regular medical industry. As for the Taurine. My son is taking 500 mg. He is 6 years of age and weighs 41 pounds. The brand that we are using is Solgar mainly because it is free of corn, yeast, wheat, soy and dairy products as well as having no preservatives, artificial flavoring or colors. It is in capsule form so I mix it in a shake. It is suppose to be taken by itself and with a reasonable time between meals. We have so many supplements that it just goes into one of the three daily shakes. Note: I have been reading alot of the autism website discussion boards and they all seem to have a topic in regards to the staring off into space theme. The parents who state that their children lost the autism label for detox all state that losing that stare was one of the first major steps. I found the connection interesting but not scary for our children may have that stare on occassion rather then most of the day.
  3. we might be predispose for TS..but if not for all these pollution.. we would not have these severe reaction.. That is my view 100%. However, society always finds it easier to label a person or blame the victim rather then facing the issue or finding and eliminating the source of the problem.
  4. Post note to Daniel, We always talked to him honestly, but never mentioned TS. We told him that most of his tics . are caused by his food allergies and when we saw the heavy metal content we told him his allergies are most likely caused by the metals. He wants to get better so he goes along with it. I hate the label TS for it tells me nothing about my child and can leave a stimga so we never mentioned that label to him and have instructed doctors never to say it in front of him. As was said in the TV show Dragnet we instructed our doctors, "Just the facts". As for the food, we carry alot of our own with us where ever we may go. Like I said there is a ton of good tasting food out there now that was not out there a few years ago. In addition there is alot of affordable ranch raised/organic meats and vegs that can be bought in regular stores today. You would be suprised with what is sold today if you shop at the outside sections of the store. Most of the inner sections are processed/canned/dyed etc....old manipulated food anyway.
  5. Daniel the food elimination diet is a big step. I feel that it is a major step that is needed for most of our kids issues. However, I myself feel that it is worth the money to get a delayed food allergy test first. In this way you know that the food elimination diet is in fact a medical procedure that must be done and you would have scientific knowledge on what foods your child can or can not eat. Believe me, it takes away any guilt feelings and gives one reassurance that they are doing the right thing when things get tough, for they will get tough at times. The good thing is that everyday there is more and more healthy food alternatives are being sold in regular stores and on the internet as well. Know if a person has allergies to nuts and they come to your house to visit, would you give them a tray of peanuts to eat as a snack? Why should we treat our kids any different from a visitor? The Enzyme supplements are a great thing as Kim is stating and I thought she worded it perfectly. However, I feel you should see how bad your child's allergies are before attempting them. In some cases they help people eat foods they normally should not eat and in other cases they are used proactively for when someone eats a forbidden food substance by accident. It all depends on the severity of the food allergy due to internal damage caused perhaps from the yeast and heavy metal content of the individual. Bottom line is you have to do what you feel is best for your family for it is your family and you would know what is best as you go along. Chemar, thanks for the hugs and you know from my personal e-mail how much of a God-send you and Claire were for me when I first found this website.
  6. Wow, thanks for sharing that. As we speak I am printing it out for further and more extensive reading.
  7. ad_ccl, You might have not noticed but in response to your post I had responded that "However, there is the siezure aspect of it too where at times it seems that he is staring out into nothing for a period of seconds to minutes. We had an MIR done and found no tumors". and "Still not sure after a lot of different doctor visits if the staring off is a tic or a siezure. Heard both. However Taurine seems to have helped this issue. You might want to look into Taurine as a supplement. Best of luck, Andy.
  8. I think that everyone has to do what is best for them and take the steps that they feel are needed and when they feel that they are ready to take them. I am a special education teacher and for years I used to suggest to parents that they look at the Fiengold diet and supplements for ADD and ADD/HD before they look at medication. So I am a big fan of the Fiengold diet for a long time, over 20 years I believe. If the Fiengold diet does the trick for your childs needs then great. If not, then I would suggest tests before you do an elimination diet to make sure you are doing the right thing. Healthy as it may be, it is not a fun diet.
  9. He is six years of age which actually makes the whole thing easy for me for he still thinks I'm godlike. The IV has a pressure cord tied around his arm briefly to get the viens to show more promptly. Then a IV needle is placed into his vien. Once that is worked out the pressure cord is removed and the IV is tapped into place. A slow drip takes place and is roughy 15 to 20 minutes long. He is getting a solution of Gluthaine, NAC and DMPS. DMPS is not approved in this country but can be obtained from a compounding pharmacy. Note only a handful of doctors are trained with this in this country so if anyone is thinking about this expermential procedure make sure the doctor you choose has a long case load of treatments and is not jumping on a bandwagon. DMPS was developed by Russians for chemical warfare treatment. A lot of chemical warfare weapons use mercury by the way. DMPS is considered safe in Europe, outside of England, and could even be brought over the counter in Germany. We were scared at first to use this treatment for there is some negative websites about it on the internet but one has to wonder who and why these websites were created and posted in the first place. So far no one under my DAN doctor's care has had any negative reactions and he has done hundreds of them. Once again this treatment is done once a month and if you just type DMPS into a search engine you will see alot of sites to visit. More details of this treatment could also be found on the DAN paper that can be found at www.AutismResearchInstitute.com under Treatment Options for Mercury/Metal Toxicity in Autisum and Related Developmental Disabilities Consensus Position Paper. The DMSA that we give to our son is a suppository and my wife handles that. My wife was not for what we were doing at first and gave in out of despair but now that we are seeing positive results she is a very active person in the treatment process. There are so many detoxing methods with DMSA and DMPS from IV's, pills, lotions, suppositories, etc that you really should read the paper a few times over. There are also other treatments in the paper that rely on vitamin B's and other natural sources for detoxing. All are backed by research, test groups and cross reference studies. It is real medicine based upon science. Another thing you might want to look at is NDF. I have read some great things about it and Heather along with killing the yeast issue in her son can give a personal positive statement about it. That is the nice thing about this website. No one is trying to sell anything. We just are trying to share information so the information is more based on fact. But remember everyone has different side issues. For example my son could not take any pills for his stomach had to be avoided. At least for now. More personal, we try to make all the treatments have a positive aspect about them. For example everytime we drive to Miami I give him an agenda to choose from of things to do afterwards and with the DMSA we allowed him to watch TV which is a big thing in our house. We also explain why we are doing and what we are doing. He wants the tics to end and he wants to eat other foods so he accepts things after we talk about it on his level. Note I saw him at lunch today and he was smiling with a relaxed face and talking his face off at. So we hope things are working as they seem to be now.
  10. I hope the Fiengold diet works for you. It would have not been enough for us. My son is on a very strick elimination diet that is based upon blood work for delayed food allergies. This basically means no soy, no milk/dairy products, no rice, no wheat - guluten products, no cane sugar, no corn or corn products- which is hidden under many different names, and no mushrooms comes to mind. Now did the diet work. Big time and within two to three weeks. My son was able to go to the bathroom, he was able to sleep at night, his behavior became predicatable which means sweet. He takes after his mother with that. The diet was the first step for us for our son's treatment and a major one. I would recommend to you that you have your child tested for yeast and delayed food allergies if the Fiengold diet is not working for you for the issue may be larger then the Fiengold covers.
  11. This is an update of the detox treatments. My son has finished his third once a month DMPS IV treatments and this past weekend he had two DMSA treatments. He will now have 5 days off until the next weekend treatments of DMSA. So far the improvements that we have seen is a new decrease of tics overall, none on Sunday and when he was ticing he was able to control it for hrs at a time. A first. His face looked relaxed this Sunday and Monday morning, a long time since that, and he watched 3 1/2 hrs of TV in a weeks period of time with no tics during or afterwards. A first. We believe that the whole TS thing is actually heavy metal poisoning and once we get out the heavy metals most if not all of the issues should be gone for good. I am posting this not to push the detox that we are doing but to encourage parents to get their kids tested for heavy metal posioning and then if needed to look at the many types of detoxing that are out there and have been tried and tested by DAN doctors and holistic practioners.

  13. Frank, my son has had little tolerance with TV or computer viewing in the past without an outbreak of tics. However, at the end of April my son had his third DMPS IV detox and was shown a video to ensure stillness during the procedure and for that 15- 20 minutes no tics were observed then or afterwards. This was a first at the doctors office. Also this past weekend he had his first two DMSA detox treatments at home where we let him watch TV for 1 hr on both days to allow the 45 minutes time for the supporsitories to be absorbed by the body. On both days there was no sign of tics during or after viewing. In addition my wife told me that when I took her parents to the airport she let the boys watch some TV and that is another 1 hr plus of TV viewing without tics. So roughly my son saw 3 1/2 hrs of TV is a short time span with out tics. This is something for we usually limit his viewing to 1/2 hr a week and at times no TV for months at a time. Now it is to early to tell but the data suggests to us that perhaps the more metals that we get out of our son the more tolerance he has to viewing and perhaps the visual-motor tic in response to the unstructured light rays is more of a toxic metal poisoning issue then anything else. Thing about how some people lose their stomachs on a ride if they had a few drinks vs no drinking. Why, because their inner balance was thrown off by the alcohol. Outside substance do interfer with how our body works. Perhaps your child is really suffering from heavy metal poisoning and everything else is a side affect?
  14. Daniel my wife was not ready to do the treatments at first either but in time she saw the medicine that was behind the treatments and accept them. I suggest that you just go to a DAN doctor and let him map everything out for you. You will not have to do a thing but follow the procedure. All of the DAN doctor research is out in the open now and is easy to access. I wish this was the case for us when we started for it would have saved alot of time and money. The tics are not the only issue with metal posioning. Research around the world have found traces of mercury in cancer cells, etc...........I could go on and on but time does not permit. Just ask your wife to let your child be tested with what we have discussed here and the results will help both of you to make a decision.
  15. Go for it Daniel and remember if you use DMSA, it is covered by most insurances where as DMPS is not. We use DMPS and are planning on adding DMSA this weekend as a 2 day on 5 day off thing. Hope my son goes for it and thanks for your prayers.
  16. That yeast thing is a big deal Daniel. If present it has to be treated one way or another. It will not go away by itself and from what I have read, the longer it is there the worse it can become.
  17. Sorry to hear that your son's tics have returned. It seemed that everytime we got them under control they came back months later worse then they were before. That is why we went for the detox option. We are banking on the premise that the heavy metals are the real trigger and that is what needs to be removed.
  18. and thank you too Kim. We all learn from each other here as well as share.
  19. The eye tic would be one of the low grade tics that my son has. It usually comes from watching a movie, at the movies-a rare thing, watching TV- a restricted activity, or from the computer-never at home. Of course all three of the above are used in schools today as part of the multi-sensory approach to teaching. We view the eye tic to be a visual-motor tic that is set off by uneven emitting light patterns which would also pretain to the fluorescent lights. The tics can last days at a time and be on-going all the time. We kid that since we live in Fla that he can wear sunglasses all day and no one would be the wiser. However, there is the siezure aspect of it too where at times it seems that he is staring out into nothing for a period of seconds to minutes. We had an MIR done and found no tumors. One of his doctors flipped out when he saw that and the tripping over his own feet stuff. Still not sure after a lot of different doctor visits if the staring off is a tic or a siezure. Heard both. However Taurine seems to have helped this issue. I hate to say this but this eye tic for my son usually is the start of a major outbreak. the only good news is that at times we have him watch TV for that sometimes ends the major outbreak and leaves only the eye tic.
  20. The flu shots do have mercury and if you live in New Jersey you may have to consider environment pollution. The University of Texas had a whole study on that one. For example, coal burning power plants or factories produce mercury and neighborhoods around those factories had much higher special ed populations then other neighborhoods. As for the vac shots don't forget that they have another metal in them as well.
  21. Thank you for having the site.
  22. Daniel, this website is the mecca of information. Not only the postings of the advance members but also the websites that are recommended to be looked at for doctors, treatments, research, etc....look at Claire's and especially Chemar's latest posting of a website. They pretty much has everything and more in one location that took me 4 years of searching to find. Look at Shelia Rogers's postings of doctors and DAN papers. It is a wealth of information. With all of that at your finger tips you have the opportunity to know more then most doctors and then know what the knowledgable doctors are talking about. If you need help getting organized then just find a local DAN doctor or someone from Dr. Dan Walshes group and you can not go wrong. They will set everything up for you from testing for delayed allergies, to supplements to different types of detoxing depending on which way you go. Most of what has been coming out since the start of this year has been amazing. For most of 4 years I have been searching in a fog and now the sun is shining. Look for the light for the light will heal.
  23. Daniel there are many ways to detox the body for metals and you are going to have to find the one that fits best. For us, stomach issues were a concern so we went for the DMPS IV and starting the DMSA suppositories this weekend. I am concern about potential liver damage so we will not use the DMSA for long. The detox agents that I have mentioned works by removing the heavy metals from the body's tissues, bones and organs and then flushing it out thru urine or fecal matter. We also use a ton of supplements to help with the detoxing as well as epsom salt baths that the body absords sulfur from. Sweating, epsom salts, mineral baths and clay are some of the natural and oldest forms of detoxing and are very effective as well. Heather uses NDF which I believe is plant and chlorophyll based and is said to be great. The detoxing is just the third part of treatment that I have used for my son. The first two are an elimination diet and supplements. Both are based on on going blood testing for delayed allergies and shortfalls. My son has made great strides in so many ways. 4 years ago was truly scary. However, there have been set backs as he got older too. The tics became more varied and at times as frequent as at least one every 10 seconds from morning to dusk. That was why we took the step for drastic detox. You should read all the recommended websites and postings before you make your decision. But it seems that you are on the right track.
  24. My son has had his third DMPS IV treatment. There was little after effect this time. We did not see the big outbreak of tics like last time. His treatment was delayed for he had a fever before hand. Funny thing was that his tics did not show at all during that time where they were pretty pronounced before the cold. Usually when he has a cold his tics are completely out of control. I do not know what to make of this. After reading the posting of Claires Generation Resue website, I feel reassured that we are doing the right thing for my son. We are also starting the DMSA this weekend. Between the both we hope to flush out his system of the metals. I hope it will not be to fast of a procedure but we were working on him for over 4 years in various ways. It is great to see that a path has been defined now for parents to follow and there seems to be more then one choice of path to take for treatments. I wished that it was that way for us 4 years ago but better now then never.
  25. Heather thanks for sharing that information about NDF. When my son is finished with his detoxing with DMPS and DMSA I may need a long term safe detox for him to get rid of any remaining metals or just to help him fight off any new entry of toxins. As far as I have read, DMPS and DMSA treatments are recommended from 6 months to 18 months tops. So they are a great start but I don't think we will be finishing the race with them. About posting, it is hard to try to keep up but I am glad that when you can you are still getting the message out. Chemar it is great that your son is doing wonderfully and it is even greater that you still give your time helping others instead of moving on and away. I have e-mailed you and Claire before thanking you both for providing me so many paths into the right direction.
