A list of less than desirable people and places- can we?
Chemar replied to sptcmom's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
I understand where you are coming from Colleen and sptcmom but again, please lets rather wait for Sheila to give a clear guideline on this before more names are posted certainly there is absolutely nothing preventing anyone from sending a private message to someone else if they see them posting about a provider/insurance etc that they feel let them down -
A list of less than desirable people and places- can we?
Chemar replied to sptcmom's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
personally, I agree it is not a good idea to air these grievances on a public forum. As was mentioned, it is already an uphill battle to get some things approved and covered etc etc. I just dont think it wise to do this kind of expose` I did notify Sheila as well to get her views re liability/confidentiality issues -
honey is also a remarkable natural antibiotic as to how much is too much....hard to say. There is always a point where even a good thing can be taken in excess...... But we use a lot of the organic raw honey here without any problems

B-Complex makes my son hyper/tics worse
Chemar replied to cory2605's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi Trish I have posted a number of times that my son cannot tolerate B complex (neither can I, nor can my husband) My son takes needed Bs individually ie. inositol, B12 and P-5-P(B6) and gets the rest of his Bs from a royal jelly supplement as well as his food. He no longer even takes a multi since the one he was on is discontinued, as he found the same was happening with other multis he tried as with the B complex. So he now takes special teas and incorporates vitamin/mineral rich foods to provide him with those nutritional needs -

Lemon Balm tea and Jasmine Oil help calm OCD
Chemar replied to Chemar's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
since that research article was published showing its remarkable properties as an alternative to SSRIs, we have noticed it becoming harder to find iHerb sells it at $9.99 for 1 fl oz but I see they are now out of stock again This is the one http://www.iherb.com/Now-Foods-Jasmine-Absolute-Oil-1-fl-oz-30-ml/927?at=0 we got it for $6.99 at one of our local health stores here do be careful as I have noticed some companies charge inordinately high amounts for "essential" oils! -

Chemar replied to Chemar's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics

Lemon Balm tea and Jasmine Oil help calm OCD
Chemar replied to Chemar's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
the Lemon Balm has a sedative effect so he takes it at night about an hour before bed (it is a member of the mint family) he drinks pure rose hips tea in the morning. and a blend of chamomille, ginger and peppermint after lunch and dinner amazing the amount of vitamins and minerals in these teas too! the celebration Herbals and Alvita are excellent brands for pure organic herbs for tea, but one can also buy it in bulk from farms like Mountain Rose Herbs in Oregon, or grow one's own and dry it! -
hi 500mg L-Carnitine is the highest daily dose I would do, especially for a child we used only l-carnitine but I know some people have said they prefer the acetyl-L-carnitine I have never heard of people having increased vocals from it, but do know some people just don't tolerate it and get edgy/spacy on it It is an amino acid and so one should use it carefully as amino's do have rather dramatic effects on the neuro system what are the ingredients of the spectrum multi that you are using?

Hi Fixit as mentioned above, we use the NOW brand, and get it from iherb, or when they are out of it, from our local health store -
Need to make a decision
Chemar replied to GraceUnderPressure's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
do be very careful about mixing supps that boost serotonin and never ever give them with serotonin elevating meds! Serotonin spiking is a dangerous condition Inositol is a gentle way to start elevating serotonin so always a good place to start with young kids especially. often nothing else is needed. It is a B vitamin and usually tolerated well, although at very high doses it seems to make some people very edgy. 5HTP was a life saver for my son at one time, but he cannot tolerate it now. I have heard from many people that now that tryptophan is again available in the USA, it is a better choice than 5HTP. But do remember both are powerful serotonin boosters and so need to be used with caution. Always start at lowest dose and then gradually work up if needed I posted on the TS board about the tremendous benefit my son is having from drinking lemon balm tea (elevates serotonin) and the aromatherapy of jasmine oil. recent studies show these to often work much better than SSRIs http://www.latitudes...?showtopic=9567 -
Lemon Balm tea and Jasmine Oil help calm OCD
Chemar replied to Chemar's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
there are a number of companies that make the oils but we like NOW, available at iHerb and many health stores the jasmine sells out quickly tho. I think that research article that was recently published has peaked interest in it -
Lemon Balm tea and Jasmine Oil help calm OCD
Chemar replied to Chemar's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
no, altho he does put a drop into his therapeutic water fountain, so it does "diffuse" into the air that way and also when he takes an epsom bath he has been putting a drop of the oil on his wrist and then rubs the two wrists together and just takes a whiff of it when he needs to sometimes he puts a drop of lavender on one wrist and drop of jasmine on the other the jasmine is very strong so really all he does is touch his wrist to the bottle cap (it has a mini dauber) and that is more than enough! -
as my son gets older (he will be 21 at the end of this year!) he is trying to get most of his nutritional needs met by food and to take only minimal capsule/tablet type supps recently he found some research on lemon balm (melissa/mint family) as a tea and the aroma therapeutic benefit of jasmine oil he is very impressed with both. just thought others may be interested he uses the Celebrations Herbal lemon balm tea and the NOW pure jasmine oil (he also has the lavender oil which is very soothing, but smelling the jasmine has a very definitive +ve effect on mood/ OCD/anxiety, and the effect of the lemon balm tea is remarkable! I need to update the Treatments thread in my signature as he is now getting so much from his food & teas and taking very few supps!

chlorine is a major tic trigger for my son. He stopped using chlorinated pools years ago as the problem was so bad he felt it not worth the spike in tics. He is older now but still doesn't go in pools. Only the ocean when he is at the beach with friends

hi and welcome yes, Sheila's book is an excellent resource http://www.latitudes.org/book.html we have found that eliminating everything that has any form of artificial chemical additive in it is the best. In the beginning it was hard as so much of what we used had bad stuff in it, but there are many alternatives, and also one can make so much oneself. And it sure is worth it!! in terms of actual food groups, if you dont see any positive results after about 2 weeks of being off eg dairy then you can reintroduce it and see if there is any increase in the tics again. I have a link in my signature below on my son's treatment protocol and you will also see a thread at the very top of this forum titled Helpful Threads where there is more info

Lyme Disease and the Cunnigham Study
Chemar replied to PacificMama's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
we have a family at our church that have learned, after years of misdiagnosed illness, that the mother had Lyme all along (probably 20+years) and that the 2 kids (now teenagers) likely got it congenitally from her -
I feel for you Bonnie the vocals are hard to handle have you ever tried the l-carnitine? are you noticing any pattern on when the vocals increase most? after any particular activity or food? in any particular room? hope this settles soon ((hugs))

Hi biofeedback and neurofeedback are different so be sure to investigate both we avoided neurofeedback as had heard some negative reports about it biofeedback however was very helpful to my son. Our acupuncture therapist does it. As with all treatments that involve a human input, be sure to choose an experienced therapist who works in a clinical setting rather than just someone who has jumped on the bandwagon because of the popularity of the therapy! preferably also be sure the therapist has experience treating neurological disorders. here is some info on it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biofeedback

Hi Giulia good to hear from you amazing how those chemical things can trigger tics in so many ways eh! I saw Sheila had included and article by an MD on chemical sensitivity in the new issue of Latitudes Online acupuncture is by far my son's most appreciated treatment. He really values it greatly!

is he also getting the other necessary vitamins & minerals in via a multi or food sources? Especially the other B vitamins, specifically B6 (or P-5-P) and methylB12 as well as enough VitD3 my son becomes a lot more volatile when those are not getting in! we also keep Bach's Rescue Remedy on hand (extract of some flowers) it really is remarkable how a few drops under the tongue bring calm also, my son has been using jasmine oil since reading a research study on how it helps bring calm and brighter mood when feeling edgy or low. He puts a drop on his wrist and rubs two wrists together and then just takes a whiff periodically. amazing calming effect! He sometimes uses a blend of lavender and jasmine oils, dabbing a drop of one on one wrist and one on the other. We use the affordable NOW brand oils chamomille tea is also very calming
