Mycoplasma how can I get rid of you
Hopeny replied to Hopeny's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
Thank you I have not but will. I have I e of his other books but if does not really cover it -
My younger had what we thought was a mosquito bite, one month later she got a classic bullseye in that spot. Never saw a tick

Per dr j's own handout band 31 igg, igm, ind significant for Lyme. Can I recommend you put a short fax together stating you are surprised by this statement that everything g was negative and ask that he personally review your case again? I find when I put things in writing I get improved responses there is no excuse but they are understaffed so sometimes you need to push harder. Fwiw my dd3 took cefdinir/zith combo. For older dd we started with abx and added supplements in about 6 or so months after. My strategy was not to do too much at once. We met with dr m today in ct (our second llmd) and he said its like a marathon with Lyme, start slow for the first miles and then amp it up as you get to the end. I'm so sorry, don't give up

New Lyme Article from the Boston Globe
Hopeny replied to EAMom's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
Full of misinformation. Steere has done so much harm. -
I'm curios too, dd is on rifampin we are doing every four weeks

B12 with folic acid - is this bad for a 677T single cpy?
Hopeny replied to Hopeny's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
Thanks, it looks like I just threw another $25 down the drain. I was using a compounded form of B12, the pharmacy told me the B12 is naturally red. Our integrative recommended intrinsic formula (which has some type of pig ingredient, grosses me out) or this one. I will go back and ask her about the folic acid and the cream. It's just so much easier to give her the tablet -
I ordered some B12 as the transdermal cream we were using was not working, staining DD's legs red. I just got the allergy research brand with 3000 ug of methylcolbamine but I see it has 400 ug of folic acid in this. I vaguely recall straight folic acid not good for those with 677T. DD takes small amount of LMTHF5 too. Thanks!

Mkur I have also wondered about the reduced use if antibiotics vs rising rates of autism. Since some cases do seen to improve with antibiotic use it stands to reason there could very well be a connection it would make an interesting study to compare antibiotic use rates with autism

We are moving and I need to find a new pediatrician which causes me great distress. Does anyone have recommendations? Marlton pediatrics looks promising. Thanks in advance

My dd is on rifampin/zith and we also use Klaires therbiotic one per day. Kerry are you giving bactrim and rifampin at the same time? Is that for Bart?

I have thought about aspirin too, along with curiosity about the timing of no longer using it and the rise in autism rates. I think it is worth a discussion with a pediatrician as to what puts children at risk for Reyes, is if the flu and aspirin?

other models of possible PANDAS/PANS
Hopeny replied to pr40's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
BKM I complete agree, my opinion is that it seems that the family/lawyer is trying to excuse sociopathic homicidal behavior with a medical diagnosis that will only cause harm to people legitimately trying to get treatment. It is the worst kind of publicity. There were some mumblings that the Newtown murderer had Lyme, not exactly the kind of publicity the Lyme community needs, and in any case again did not create the sociopath. I would not in any way personally want to be associated with these cases. Not every case of OCD is PANDAS, my husband has horrendous OCD, was tested disappointingly for me, has no infections. just his unbearable psychological makeup/personality. I am hopeful that the scientific community will publish the only thing that really can help swing physicians which is peer reviewed research. -
Im so sorry. On the medical side if I recall correctly your sons lyme results showed positive for Lyme specific reactivity. It seems like it would be worth a shot to consult with a Lyme literate medical doctor, Dr T while I am sure is wonderful does not treat Lyme.

My dd's body temp was bet 95 and 96 when she was sickest with Lyme. I monitor her sometimes as an indicator, now it hovers around 97.5. It went up after we started treating

I've spent tens of thousands. It's definitely worth it IMO. I look at it like concierge medical care. I get 60% of the amount our insurance co deems reasonable after deductible. We don't go on vacation much though

If you are waiting for Igenex result, you can call Igenex and ask them if they have sent the results to Dr. J. My experience has been they are pretty timely with calling when they get the results, but having so many patients and being so under-staffed its possible that there could be delays.

browneyesmom please keep updating, I am curious about this topic as well. Our integrative said many of her patients have borderline ANC and WBC. We are beefing up our protocol to try to address. When DD3 had the emergency, the immunologist we saw said he is comfortable with ANC >500 FWIW. Under that is "boy in the plastic bubble" time.

Tpotter I am so sorry you and your family are going through this. What about trying to find a Lyme Literate cardiologist for a second opinion through lymenet, www.lymediseaseassociation.org, ilads and tbda.org? This seems like an urgent matter that does need immediate attention. I am not sure about Brian Fallon, he is a psychiatrist employed by Columbia. His recent publications were against anything more than the IDSA 4 week protocol for Lyme. The former president of the IDSA is at the same institution in infectious disease and has publicly vehemently criticized ILADS etc. I too have heard good things about galaxy, but have not used personally due to needing to be off abx for four weeks, and the cost. I believe that RED who is sometimes on this board is familiar with them if you want to PM him. All the best to you

I'm so sorry, how is his Vitamin D3 level? I have noticed a real correlation with D levels and DD's mood. Keep believing, he will get better!

Rifampin/Clyndomycin combo
Hopeny replied to beeskneesmommy's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
BKmommy I was (maybe still am) extremely nervous about using Rifampin, but at the same time decided to plow through it. DD9 has been on since November, first on a low dose 75MG 2x/day and for the past month 150 MG 2x/day. Her neutrophil and wbc are borderline since using. we monitor fairly frequently (bi weekly/monthly depending on my stress level:) ) and have kept her on milk thistle, so far her liver enzymes have been fine. Her ASO has gone from 200 to 75 (normal under 150) !!! This is the only thing so far that seems to have tackled the strep. I had to take DD3 for a cardiac echo for a crazy reaction to Bactrim. FWIW while there the cardiologist told me that she does not like Bactrim at all and wished doctors would stop prescribing it because so many people react to it. I then asked what she thought of Rifampin and she said its an old med and perfectly fine in her opinion. I am however very careful about trying to minimize any possible exposure to tuberculosis while she is on Rifampin. DD has been in NYC once since she started it and we whooshed her into and out of the American Girl store, as I know there is quite a bit of TB within the homeless population in NYC, we did not walk around. We also have not flown anywhere to try to limit exposure to too many adults. DH works in a hospital but I would not let him take her there for take your kid to work day etc. Based on our stellar result with ASO it seems to really get rid of the strep. -
Yes I've had this issue. One kid has borderline we think caused by infection and meds and my 3 to had a scary severe drop brought on by an allergic reaction to bactrim. How low is WBC and ANC in regards to the range?
-
Absolutely!

When I was going through IVF (all failed, but got my miracle) in response to my question about when can I stop worrying about a pregnancy, a wise nurse who was a mom told me you never stop worrying, just wait until the kid is born, then it really starts Since you did take a good course of antibiotics, and your baby seems healthy and had a negative test, I would be cautiously optimistic that your baby is Lyme free. Monitor for symptoms and test in the future. Try to stop worrying, there will be so many other things to worry about.

I believe that the single dose of Doxy idea is put forth by the same folks that insist, despite scientific and patient evidence, that there is no such thing as chronic Lyme. If the tick wasn't removed properly it also is an issue, could still transmit the virus. Even with my situation and knowing better, I saw something I thought was a tick on myself last summer, panicked, ripped it out and threw it out the window - it's a completely natural reaction. 30 days of Doxy should also protect you against Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and Ehrlicia, two infections that ticks carry that can in some cases be fatal. I just don't get it, I am willing to bet good money that if I took my dog to the vet and said I removed a tick, that they would give me a 30 day course of Doxy. Why not for humans?
