  1. Walgreens carries a dye-free brand called Wal-dryl liquid gels - on sale this week 2 for 3.49 of the 24 blister packs. I know CVS also carries dye-free. I hope you find some answers soon. Good luck.
  2. I have a sensitive stomach and so do some of my friends. We switched egg products - using Eggland's eggs makes a big difference. I only use cheap eggs for baking. (I wish Eggland's would redo their packaging to something I can recycle and would switch products because of it. Found this article a couple of years back: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/05/us/05cows.html - (made my day )
  3. After reading the following article: http://www.nytimes.c...21gut.html?_r=1 I googled around looking for the 3rd type of gut enterotype 3 (and which vitamins?) and found these articles: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/13/science/13micro.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fecal_bacteriotherapy
  4. This is an awesome find - thanks for posting. It is 12 years too late for my son but I know it can help save a child today. My son was given 7 days of amox every time he had ear infections, sore throats, strep, scarlet fever etc until around 1996. Dr's also refused to take out his tonsils. They changed the rules and started withholding abx but still keep refusing to take out tonsils. I begged them to take out his tonsils and it didn't happen. My son was born at the wrong time and place and it makes me cry every time I think about it.
  5. Body fat % is also important. I've read that increased body fat % is contributing to girls hitting puberty earlier.
  6. No diabetes on mother's side - middleage onset on father's side. Did westernblot and Igenex test - no lyme or co-infections. But I do think there might be some unknown problem because positive for band41. Thanks for posting article.
  7. This is an easy fix and cheap to treat - no extra tests needed.
  8. Wow - that's awesome - my son was seven when pandas hit and he did not understand what was happening - therefore he could not explain it so that others could understand. We were clueless. We had to learn a whole new vocabulary - which is difficult when you needed it yesterday.
  9. Cheap and fast - too good to be true - no strep mentioned - but wouldn't it be great to have one of these at home. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/04/110427171636.htm
  10. My son gets a headache when the weather (pressure) changes. He would end up in the nurse's office. He says he cannot think and feels sick. He doesn't watch the news so is unaware of the change - not anxiety. I think most poeple get crabby when they have a headache or don't feel well.
  11. No offense taken. My son got sick Nov 1997 and received no treatment. I am soooo glad you received treatment and can offer us your experience a/o opinions. I enjoy reading about them. I like to read about everyone's different views and opinions. I think understanding the immune system is the key. Eastern meets Western medicine. I think we have a lot to learn. We need better lab tests. We need to learn more about the different viruses and bacteria - and adapt because they are evolving at a fast rate. My classic pandas son reacts to different things like colds and allergies so I am very open to different ideas. I also like reading all the different articles people post - there is no way to keep up or even find all the info available. I hope your current treatment plan works and you get to 100%. Best of luck.
  12. Thank you for posting. Thank you AOTA conference. Thank you OT moms.
  13. Dr. B is great. He is mostly interested in your child's lab work, if you don't have any he will order lots of it. I handed him my crazy mom notebook with copies of ds medical history (lots of lab work). We sat in his office while he reviewed the notebook and asked us questions about the info and made notes. He is not a ped so don't expect a physical exam. I traveled out of state to see him looking for a treatment plan - antibiotics and IVIG. My son is classic pandas with high titers and I have the lab tests to prove it - no brainer. My son is older and he was not getting better - only worse - and we needed action. I had done my homework and he was on my insurance plan - hooray!!!!!!
  14. Acne Antibiotics Not Linked to Drug Resistance - Yahoo! News http://news.yahoo.com/s/hsn/20110412/hl_hsn/acneantibioticsnotlinkedtodrugresistance
  15. I think it is a tic. IMHO, pandas tics are different than TS tics in that they don't change as much. You never want to bring attention to a TS tic because they could trade it for something worse. My son was not a big ticcer and really never switched tics. I would offer a distraction - worry stone to keep in his pocket (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Worry_stone) or a special coin (half dollar) or polished rock or a small pocket watch chain for his belt loop or one of those clips for keys. Good luck
  16. I only read the abstract - but this is more evidence for PANDAS. My son is a classic pandas with high titers and always had a runny nose, ear infections etc. I think of PANDAS (in my son's case) as an allergic reaction - overactive immune system so anything linking allergies and (PANDAS or TS or OCD) is a good thing. Researchers keep looking!!! http://journals.lww.com/jrnldbp/Abstract/2011/02000/Correlation_of_Tourette_Syndrome_and_Allergic.3.aspx
  17. Is he really not learning or is he very impulsive. My son was very hyper and impulsive and would not slow down to think. Tenex worked for my son when he was younger.
  18. Sooooo much stress... I really appreciate a boring day. Hope your is uneventful.
  19. Dr B. says to give prednisone daily for 6 days - 2 days before, 2 days during IVIG and 2 days after. You need to give it in the morning with food - it will keep you up. They also give ibuprofen and benedryl(sp?) before and every 6 hours during and after IVIG. We continued this for a week. My son got his first IVIG on Mon and Tues and got an huge reaction - racing brain - extreme irritability - at approx 8 pm on Wed evening. I had to make sure I gave him ibuprofen and benedryl every 6 hours or he would feel ill. I set the alarm. Good luck.
  20. I'm sure we got the condensed version. I hope you get an answer soon. The worst thing for a parent to hear is to do nothing and watch your child regress and suffer. Keep searching. You inspire us all. Good luck.
  21. It needs to be given with food to protect the stomach.
  22. That's awesome... great news. Thanks for sharing.
  23. Last year when my son was put on antibiotics for acne, the derm would switch them alot. One time he developed hives because I thought he had developed a seafood allergy. The derm switched antibiotics and we avoided seafood for 6 months. He hasn't had hives since. I believe that pandas/lyme can make your immune system go crazy. I'm not sure where the genetics and/or gut enters the picture. My son is a classic pandas but I believe he is now reactive to other things. My brother had asthma(hospitalize several times) which was triggered by wheat. They removed the wheat for 10 years and he no longer has asthma or migrines or a wheat allergy. I cannot remove strep from the environment or control exposure - its everywhere - so we are currently treating with IVIG. I'm hoping it will cause his immune system to calm down and the extra immune cells will attack anything else that shouldn't be there. I'm also hoping that his immune system and the other donor cells are strong enough to fight off anything new he might be exposed to.
  24. This worries me too. In 1997, we had insurance and I could not find an answer for 11 months. I looked and looked. No help available - long waiting list for any specialist and for referrals etc. We finally started paying out-of-pocket for a psy which helped with meds but no treatment. He told us about pandas but the NIH said they outgrow it and do not take out their tonsils. It is so sad.....all that pain.... all those lost years. Today we have insurance and are able to afford to travel to see a pandas doc for treatment and HOPE.
