  1. I cannot thank you enough for the reply. Great tips, I did not think about the fish oil. I will try something else. Cannot use flx seed oil (he is highly sensitive to it). What about Soy Lecithin? Do you know anything about it? I have also ordered L- Carnitine as you mentioned. Should I start with 250 mg /day? Or how much? Yes he does soak in 2 cups of epsom salt in his bath every night, and it does help. I also don't think the antihistamine is helping at all, so I am thinking about doing away with it. He seems particularly agitated since the throat clearing started. Would you recommend redoing the ELISA/ACT test, only this time do the more comprehensive one? I have installed UV lights in the AC/Heating unit to get rid of molds, since he is so sensitive to them. Not sure how to add a Hepa filter to his room. Do you mean to the return? Again, **THANK YOU**, I wish I could repay you for the help. Take care!
  2. Chemar Thank you so much for your contribution and help, it is priceless. I have my son on magnesium, fish-oil, claritin, N-Acetyl Cysteine. He has been doing very well, however, recently he started with a throat clearing, and don't know what to do about it. I am thinking it might be related to seasonal allergies? He is already on an organic diet, and we stay away from things that he turned up positive to (ELISA/ACT). What do you think I should try for the throat clearing which happens incessantly ...... Thank you!!!
  3. HI I am also staying away from all artif. coloring including in soap, shampoo, toothpaste, dishwasher soap, etc. I heard water w/ Fluoride can increase tics, but nothing about it in tooth paste. I like "Burt's bees" products. Take care! Giulia
  4. Hi Just wanted to share that my son went through a period of terrible neck-jerking (looked like his head was about to fall off every time). It turns out he needs to stay away from flax seed oil in any form. Once we removed that the difference was dramatic (it went from a 10 to a 1). Magnesium was also very helpful as well as natural diet. I found TAURINE to make his slightly worse, but I am not 100% sure about that. Good luck Giulia
  5. Hi Lele I think the results are good news! My son came out with strong reactions to a couple of dyes, and I found that staying away from ALL food coloring has been GREAT for him (watch out for coloring in medicines for kids, chewable supplements, tooth paste, mouth wash, etc). Also don't heat food in microwave in plastic containers, use glass. Be careful exposing to mold. Avoid ALL foods in the list for 6 mo. All can think of right now...... take care Giulia
  6. if you want to buy Epsom salt in bulk (a little cheaper this way) https://www.saltworks.us/shop/product.asp?idProduct=675
  7. I just wanted to mention that Direct Labs has tests you can do on your own to see if he has deficiencies, so you don't have to wait on him. In fact you can do the following all on your own: ELISA/ACT (tests for foods, chemicals and molds) ---> https://www.directlabs.com/OrderTests/tabid...US/Default.aspx Test to see if he has amino acids/mineral deficiancies (I just ordered this one myself) ---> https://www.directlabs.com/OrderTests/tabid...US/Default.aspx Test for toxic metals ---> https://www.directlabs.com/OrderTests/tabid...US/Default.aspx For us the Elisa Act was good because we figured out his hypersensitivies (11 of them) Good luck Giulia
  8. Hello! I use a liquid magnesium and I put 1 TSP of it in his drinkable yogurt. If I put more than 1 TSP he can taste it, otherwise he does NOT taste it and it works great. Then when he gets home from school I will give him another drinkable yogurt (I buy DanActive) with another TSP. It works for us. My son is 7 yrs old. If you do Epsom salt baths as well, I found a site where you can buy it in bulk: https://www.saltworks.us/shop/product.asp?idProduct=675 .... it is a little cheaper. Take care Giulia
  9. I would recommend ELISA/ACT www.directlabs.com
  10. Thank You the reply!! Do you buy the kids calm online? YES I buy it online You can find it at AMAZON and I am sure other places Take care
  11. Hello! OK so I wrote my experience on the Italian forum, works similarly to this one, and how my son is doing SO MUCH better after figuring out his hypersensitivities, adding magnesium, etc. It has only been about 5 weeks that he has been SO well. So I get a reply saying that it's all good and well, but the nervous system -- although it reacted well initially-- will go back to doing what it was doing before ---> ticcing will come back. PLEASE somebody tell me that it is not true !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is there somebody here that has achieved great results that have remained relatively stable for years??? THANK YOU Giulia
  12. HI Not sure about the las part Re. Epsom Salt bath I think they are great for my son. You can use together with Kids Calm. Put about 2 fistfuls in the hot bath and let him/her soak for about 10-15 minutes, especially after a hectic day. Takes about a week for the magnesium to make its way in there, but thay have shown that it does. My personal experience is it does him good close to immediately. I heard others say it take about 2 hours to see the difference, but who knows, since for us 2 hours later he is fast asleep ...... I had to to the lemon/rasberry flavor on the "calm" product because my son turned up hypersensitive to orange ...... good luck!
  13. HELLO For my son, mag taurate made tics worse, I would recommend Mag Citrate (like Kids Calm). I was desperate, as my son's tics were REALLY bad, and I could not figure out what to do about it. The breakthrough for us was to figure out that he has hypersensitivities to 11 items (foods, chemicals and a mold). By removing the offending foods, he has turned into a different child. 99% tic free, and NO LONGER agitated. Chemicals and mold are more of a challenge, not as easy to control, but at least I know what he tics, when he tics. Do not waste your time going to a traditional allergy doctor. My son turned up negative to everything. Fo to www.directlabs.com and order the ELISA/ACT basic test (approx $350). In fact, here is the direct link: https://www.directlabs.com/OrderTests/tabid...US/Default.aspx Then take the kit to a lab and have them draw the blood. If you have a nurse or doc. in the family they can do it too, just use a thinner needle than what comes with kit. Follow instructions carefully and send off the blood. In about 8-9 days you will have results posted on the webiste under your acct, and I pray that you have the same luck I had. For me it was worth EVERY penny. He had strong reactions to basic things I gave him every day: red grapes, orange, red dye, green dye, flax seed oil, chocolate, romaine lettuce. It just so happen that during his WORST ticcing time, I had started him on a FLAXSEED OIL supplement, but I am thankful for that, because it made me dig deaper. Also, note that orange and grape is EVERYWHERE: mixed juices, kids meds, kids vitamins, "kids Calm", etc...... So I just had to reorganize his life, but again, worth it. Let me know if you need more info. Take care! Giulia
  14. Hello! I am from Italy, but living in the USA (VA). My son has had tics since he was 2 yrs old. He is now 99% tic free, since figuring out he has hypersensitivities to 11 items (foods and chemicals and one mold). Before finding out, I spoke to my uncle in Italy (a neurosurgeon) and he directed me to a TS expert (another neurosurgeon from Milan, Italy) who writes about using a "pace maker" to resolve tics in the worst cases of TS, as well as other kinds of deep brain stimulation. At this time I did not do any further research, because (THANK GOD) my son is doing SO well. But I heard from another member that they are more advanced in Italy when it comes to this type of intervention, so if anyone is interested in digging deeper I am willing to be the "bridge" to make it happen (not looking to profit from this, ALL FREE, just trying to help). Giulia
  15. HI I AM ACTUALLY IN VA. WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED? I am also from another country (Italy). My son has been doing GREAT after we figured out he had 11 food and chemical sensitivities. After removing the offending items he is almosto tic free, so I definitely recommend this. He is also on MAGNESIUM (citrate) and fish oil. i will soon add B6. I live in SALEM, VA (roanoke area). I am new to the board but willing to help if you need anything. Take care! Giulia
  16. THANK YOU SO MUCH my son was doing great, then I gave him Taurine and the next day he seemed agitated and with a new tic. Discontinued it, and he doing well again..... take care
  17. Has anyone experienced tics being worse on their kids after a TAURINE supplement being given? THANK YOU
  18. Hello! just wanted to point out that I had my son on Flaxseed oil supp. /magnesium ("attentive child") and he got MUCH worse. Then I got results back for his IgG and he turned out HYPERSENSITIVE to Flaxseed oil, orange (which is in the attentive child wafer) and more things (a total of 11). It wasn't until I removed the items that his life really changed. So I would suggest doing the supplements in conjunction with trying to figure out the root of the problem. Take care Giulia
  19. HI My son started various similar things at around 3. Acting like his shirt was bothering him, etc. Later things became more like "classic" tics (eye blinking/head jerking/etc). He is now 7. This past Sept he had a very bad month. The freat news is that he turned out to have sensitivities so a few things such as orange, red grapse, flaxseed oil, and more (11 items some foods some chemicals). Once we got him off the flaxseed oil suppkement I started him on in August, and all the other things, his life has changed. He is almost tic free and very serene, not at times agitated like he was before. I definitely recommend getting him tested mabe in a couple of years 9it involves drawing blood). Good luck!
  20. HELLO I had my sone do the LRA by ELISA/ACT which tests for 144 items (chemicals and foods) after he tested negative to all skin scratch tests. You can order the ELISA/ACT from www.directlabs.com and take the kit to a lab, then send the kit in. My son tested positive for 11 items, and eliminating those has turned him into a DIFFERENT CHILD. Almost tick free, and no longer agitated. I also find adding MAGNESIUM hlpful, but not with orange flavor, as he tested positive to orange (as well as red grapes, chocolate, red and green dyes, romaine lettuce, and more). Let me know if I can help Take care and good luck
  21. Hello! My son Luca has been going through a variety of motor tics since age 2. The past September was his very worst month, with tics involving his head, face, eyes, mouth, shoulders, arms, leaving him in a very agitated state, and unable to sit still long enough to complete his homework. At this state I feared that Luca had Tourette Syndrome, and started researching for hours every night, after putting my 3 kids to sleep. Looking back now, he was also at times ansy and impatient, in an unpredictable manner, together with his off-and-on tics. One of those tics was clearing of the throat, ALL THE TIME, for about 3 weeks. At the beginning of Sep. I started Luca on 2 supplements: flax seed oil, and magnesium. His symptoms seemed to get worse instead of better, so upon my departure for a one week business trip to Italy I told my husband to NOT worry about giving him any pills. By the time I came back, his tics (which were a "10") had decreased to almost nothing (a "2"). I had ordered a kit to have him tested for delayed allergies (LRA by ELISA/ACT), so I had his blood drawn and sent off the kit. A week later the results came back. He showed "strong reactions" to: Orange, Red #2, Flaxseed/Linseed Oil, Methylene Chloride, Romaine Lettuce, Vinyl Chloride. "moderate reactions" to: Chocolate, Rhizopus nigricans, red grape, Chloroform, Green #3 I also sent off a chunk of hair to test his "metals toxicity level" and the results showed a borderline high copper level, with all other levels being normal (I still don't know what to do with this piece of information). Since receiving the results, I started making lots of changes, as you might imagine, especially since I realized he has always ingested LOTS of red grapes, orange, chocolate, flax seed oil (from my supplement!), Romaine lettuce. With the elimination of the "offending" items his tics were down to barely a "1" in about 1 1/2 weeks. Then I received in the mail a supplement of MAGNESIUM/ZINC/VITAMIN C ("attentive child") I had ordered for him, and told my husband to start giving it to him daily. I left for another bus. trip, and when I returned one week later his tics were slightly worse (a "2"). I then noticed that the supplements container ORANGE, so we discontinued them. After about 10 days he is practically tic free. I realize that it is too early to conclude anything, and I should really wait more like 6 months, but I still wanted to pass this along to everybody, as I am hoping to be on the right track. I should also mention that not only he is almost tic-free, but he is also very calm and serene, the opposite of "very agitated and unable to sit still", which he was when he was at his worst. He is now very happy all the time, no mood swings, able to do his homework on his own, and ticcing maybe twice a day, if that much. Another thig I found helpful is to let him soak for about 10 minutes in an EPSOM SALT bath. Although I am no expert, I want to believe I am on the right track, and I am interested in helping in any way I can others that are going through this VERY frustrating health problem. Take care!! Giulia
  22. Hey Also new to the board. HELLO EVERYBODY! I wanted to share with you that my son has had a variety of mild motor tics and 1 vocal tic since age 3 (he is now 7). We never did anything about it until this past Sept he took a turn for the worst with multiple and constant tics, as well as a severe agitated state. Through reaserach I learned I should have him tested for sensitivities, and so I did. Allergy testing turned up negative, but a test called ELISA/ACT that tests something called IgG (it involves drawing blood and sending it off) determined he has 11 items that caused "strong reactions". One of them was FLAX SEED OIL, and incidently, in August, I had just started giving him a FLAX SEED OIL supplement...... other items were RED GRAPES (he loves them), red dye, chocolate, etc. Eliminating these items has turned him into a different child: no longer agitated, tic free. I would definitely recommend this, it has made a world of difference. It is still eary to conclude anything, but I believe I am on the right track. I am also new, but if you want more info I will be glad to provide it. Good luck and take care Giulia
