  1. laure- were her symptoms in remission when you had the procedure done, or since then? Really glad to hear she is doing well!
  2. also, you can find video/suggestions on how to treat clothing with peremethrin at tickencounter.org another site for good prevention tips - www.boboley.com (expert in prevention)
  3. I have had my husband's golf clothes and a few of my daughter's items (socks, golf shirt- for when she goes with him) treated through insect shield (permethrin). By having it treated at insect shield, it last the life of the garment (or 70 washes). I try and spray the golf shoes, sneakers, monthly May- Sept with Sawyers peremethrin. I just ordered a treated sweatshirt and some socks for my daughter at bugbewear.com. Its insect shield - last 70 washings. For insect spray, we use Avon bug guard plus "Expedition" (IR3535) insect repellent/sunscreen, Avon bug guard plus "Picaridin" without sunscreen, and Coleman insect repellent (IR3535). Coleman you can purchase at Rite Aid. Avon also sells bug guard plus wipes which are nice. These products deter ticks for 10-12 hours. edit- you can find insect shield treated clothing at the site I listed above, REI, LL bean, Ex officio, Orvis, Columbia. Or you can send your clothes to insect shield and they will treat and send them back. That's what I did with my husbands golf shirts.
  4. Symptoms could be from Bartonella, a tick-borne co infection. Anymore, its rare for a tick to just harbor borrelia. They usually transmit co-infections as well. Bartonella is known for neuropsychiatric symptoms, as well as swallowing, heartburn, choking difficulties and GI issues. Unfortunately, since bartonella is so elusive, testing proves even more difficult to yield a positive result. My dd test positive for bart through Quest (Nicholas Lab in Calif), but never Igenex. We have it drawn with other quest labs, but that test is marked to be performed at the Nicholas lab. 83-93 is borrelia specific, as well is 23-25 I believe, so something is showing up.
  5. I also was diagnosed with HELLP syndrome during my pregnancy.
  6. What is the difference between prednisone and prednisolone? dosing the same?
  7. Good luck with the vitamin. Hope he has a great getaway this summer!
  8. Couple other questions - not much experience here with steroids. I just read during a search on the site that you shouldn't use motrin/advil during a taper? My daughter is experiencing daily headaches and joint pain, most likely due to an elevated ana at 1:640. (also has lyme and bart). Immuno is concerned she is going through another lupus-like flair. Happened two years ago. She is scheduled to receive IVIG in ten days - she would then to need to take Motrin/Benadryl for the side effects of the infusion. What do they do then? thx
  9. Starting a Medrol taper on my daughter. She is 12 1/2 around 90lbs. Does this sound about right? Methylprednisolone 4mg tablets: 8 tablets for 4 days 6 tablets for 3 days 4 tablets for 3 days 2 tablets for 3 days
  10. Some believe probiotics is better absorbed on an empty stomach, but I give my daughter probiotics with and without food. You got to do what works best for you. A probiotic capsule and Kefir everyday definitely would not be over doing it. Another option is Florastor for kids - a small packet of powder that can be mixed with applesauce, etc. You can also just sprinkle it on the tongue, but doesn't sound like your child would like that. It's a good yeast probiotic (Sacchromyces Bou...) that works well on the GI tract. But there are some kids that react to it in a negative way, mine does not. If she can swallow the very small pearl shaped probiotics, we use Integrative Therapeutic Probiotic Pearls.
  11. This doctor was featured today on MSN homepage regarding a girl's misdiagnosed bipolar dx. Kudos Dr. Frankovitch! And yes, a rheumatologist!!
  12. If positive, can you pm me as well. thx! Hopeny- I will pm you this evening when I have access to my computer. Also, make sure to check her ANA, sed rate, c-reactive protein. My dd is having daily migraines right now and her ANA is pretty elevated.
  13. Considering Zoloft. My daughter's ANA is currently pretty elevated at 1:640. Does anyone know if that makes a difference or will affect the response in any way?
  14. hopeny- I will pm you in a bit with the 2 neurologists that we saw early on with no success. I know your not looking to discuss pandas, but will share their names anyhow. One was a little more open-minded, I guess.
  15. would love to hear more - thanks.
  16. I know this has been addressed before... what SSRI's have you tried for depression? helpful or harmful? Thank you.
  17. If anyone else has experience with Rogers, could you please pm me. Thanks in advance.
  18. Thanks everyone
  19. There was a post a while back initiating prayers. I'm too tired to find it. Please, please, please send prayers or good thoughts our way (dd12)
  20. Thank you all! Your support and recommendations are much appreciated. It is a no brainer, so I cant believe I'm needing to fight once again for assistance. It took me two years to finally receive an IEP. Most of the accommodations on the IEP are for emotional support. I think she was denied academic accommodations because her grades were fine last two years. But she was in and out school last two years on home bound tutoring- so most of her work was chunked, especially last year. She's been working so hard to be successful this year, and feels like a failure. She has a severe vomiting phobia that has been in play for the last two years with school refusal, along with the symptoms of these chronic illnesses. Went to USF this summer which was very helpful addressing the phobia. But it is back again -Just as bad as before. But since that is not our biggest issues with school at this time, need to hold off on doing the exposure therapy required. momocd- agree about the snowball effect- definitely where were at llm- you know this is a huge accomplishment for her. Your last two lines summed it up. Have a meeting scheduled for next week!
  21. I don't want extra time for assignments. Really needs less assignments. And maybe not have to complete entire test - 80%? She cannot handle the demand right now. They are not offering to lesson the workload as of now, even though I have stated to guidance counselor she may pose a danger to herself. Have only worked with the teachers and guidance counselor so far- I need to call for a full team meeting I suppose.
  22. My daughter is in severe distress over the load of her school work. Very, very overwhelmed. Wishing to no longer being alive and has requested to be committed numerous times recently. She is in 6th grade, For the most part has been doing pretty well this year until about 8-12 weeks ago. She has an IEP this year that allows her some extensions on assignments, but it also has her completing all the same work and tests as the other students. I've been saying for some time that she is getting very overwhelmed with the work, but was told "its middle school - thats how it is" Can I request an IEP meeting to take some of her work assignments and tests away? Do I need a doctors note requesting it? The school is aware of our recent struggles. I'm very concerned for my dd's well being. She cannot handle this anymore. Almost took her to a local hospital yesterday. It breaks my heart.
  23. My daughter's CD19 was low 2 years ago when they ran a Lymphocyte subset panel (absolute and percentage). It was also ignored, but she was receiving IVIG at the time. My daughter's last ivig was in June. Her IgG 2 subclass is now low. It was actually elevated end of 2012 because of the infusions she was receiving - so it dropped a lot. Ig4 is very close to being in the low level. The others igg levels are normal but dropping as well. My daughter has walking pneumonia right now. Have consult with dr. soon.
  24. pandasphilly- would you mind if I reach out to you this weekend about the program. I would understand if not a good time. We are possibly considering an in-patient stay here.My daughter was at Rogers for several months in 2012. I would be happy to share privately, if you like. Would like that. Thank you!
