magnesium tuarate versus magnesium cheleate
Chemar replied to dee45's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
if he is already taking Bs in his multi then the B complex may be too much. he may just need extra B6 and B12 rather than a whole complex along with the multi you could try cutting it out for a few days and see if anything improves -
would these supplments be bad for my tics?
Chemar replied to AHB900's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
personally I dont feel that people who have Tourette Syndrome would achieve that kind of change plus the risks of adding a substantial tic trigger for someone who has TS can be very serious -
yes, we have a number of threads on it here and you will also find it listed in my thread on the treatments that have helped my son (linked in my signature here) my son feels that acupuncture is by far the best tic and OCD calming treatment choose your therapist with care tho!

Hi deanna where B6 is very important, yet other B vitamins are as well my son does take a separate B6 in the form of P-5-P but he also gets the full spectrum of Bs from his multivitamin shake and also takes extra methylB12 and Inositol as mentioned in another thread, some people do not seem to tolerate those B complex supps and tend to do better when the Bs are blended in a multivitamin or given individually. my son reacts very negatively to every B complex we have tried

Deanna, my son cannot tolerate B complex at all. he seems to be sensitive to niacin (even the no flush kind) he can have his Bs in a multi or individually, but every B complex we have tried has been a negative reaction

magnesium tuarate versus magnesium cheleate
Chemar replied to dee45's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi Deanna yes, if he is ticcing more on that supp then it may well be the glutamic acid depends on his age/weight re the choice of which calm product.... -
magnesium tuarate versus magnesium cheleate
Chemar replied to dee45's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
hi Deanna we use the NOW brand of taurine, 500mg per day my son really likes the Natural Calm now tho he has to watch how much he takes as it is magnesium citrate and too much can cause runny tummy. he has a cup of it with 2 tsp of the powder each night the rest of his magnesium comes from the other sources I mentioned above re the glutamic acid....honestly that is hard one as some people take glutamine without problem. becasue of my son's known reactivity to the monosodium glutamate we just play it safe and stay away from it. if you arent noticing an negative effect on the tics then it may be ok -
magnesium tuarate versus magnesium cheleate
Chemar replied to dee45's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
do they say what the magnesium chelate is chelated from?? I would definitely check on that it maybe chelated to the Lysine and glutamic acid, both of which are amino acids personally I stay away from glutamates because of my son's tic etc triggering by monosodium glutamate Lysine, as far as I know, is ok to take. It is an excellent supplement for viral conditions, especially herpes virus (shingles, chickenpox etc) as it inhibits the viral reproductive cycle I have not heard of it being a problem related to tics the rest of the ingredients in that supp look good to me taurine(in mag taurate) is an amino acid that seems to help many with TS tics. we do have a couple of reports tho from members who have found the opposite and that it triggered tics. so again it is a trial and error thing. we never used mag taurate itself, but my son takes taurine as a separate supplement, and gets his magnesium from the natural calm as well as his epsom salts cream and tubs, his protein multivit shake and his diet -
magnesium tuarate versus magnesium cheleate
Chemar replied to dee45's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi Dee magnesium taurate is considered very beneficial for people who have TS tics. It IS a magnesium chelate ie the magnesium is chelated with the amino acid taurine I am not sure what type of magnesium you are referring to? did you mean chelate instead of cheleate? If the magnesium you are using is chelated with many amino acids that could be problematic as there are some aminos that stimulate dopamine and therefor increase tics -
my son takes the NOW Boswellia/curcumin blend for his crohns disease with much benefit. it is a remarkable anti-inflammatory plus the boswellin also helps with OCD I have heard that taking curcumin with bioperene(from black pepper) enables superior absorption/function, but so far my son doesnt want to switch from his blend as it works so well for him

would these supplments be bad for my tics?
Chemar replied to AHB900's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Gingko has no benefit for tics as far as I know. It helps with memory/focus/attention grapeseed extract is an excellent supplement and helpful for many conditions and never caused any problems for my son I honestly cant "recommend" anything as each individual reacts differently to things. -
Hi Melanie we were desperate too and that was why we started the meds initially. But when the results with meds are not making things better and in fact often bringing new problems via side effects.....well that was when we decided to try something else and are very thankful we did re the bad words, that may well be coprolalia tics have you tried epsom salts baths to calm him? any magnesium at all? usually giving magnesium with meds is ok but again check with your doc first

tyrosine stimulates dopamine = increased tics my son has used grapeseed extract and Gingko without any problems -
Hi Melanie didnt want you to think you were being ignored....it is real hard for me (and I know many of our other members too) to comment when tic meds are involved as many of us stay as far away from them as possible from bitter experience all I can share with you is that L-carnitine greatly helped my son when he had a big problem with his vocal tics. however I dont know if it can be taken with those drugs and so you would need to check with your doctor on that I hope things will settle as I can read in your post that you are very frustrated. Sometimes the "short fuse" issue in our kids is due to a lack of serotonin. the B vitamin INOSITOL is what my son takes for that, along with P-5-P version of B6 and also methylB12

I cannot use regular deodorant at all! I get a rash and large swollen lumps under my arms from it Our whole family use the Jason deodorant which is paraben and aluminum free, tho it still has propylene glycol in which I have yet to find one without I find it pretty effective (I use the lavender) and they also do apricot, tea tree and aloe vera ( i get ours cheapest at iherb) -
my son definitely does better on P-5-P form of B6 also I really do think there is more than just B6 needed to supplement the Bs for TSers...not sure why these researchers only used B6. we have personally seen great benefit from specifically B5 and B1 as well I know B6 facilitates much so maybe that is why they singled it out the magnesium is still #1 on our list of tic reducers

hello and welcome I moved your post to it's own thread my son cannot tolerate B complex vitamins and so takes them individually instead it's hard to say whether you have given too much without knowing dose, age, weight etc I would tend to think the increase i tics is more likely due to weaning off the clonidine
-
i guess you would have to discover that for yourself as different people have different reactions to chlorine we play it safe and avoid most chlorine in any form because whether in pools, water, bleach, household cleaners etc it seems to tigger more tics for my son

Isotonix / Might-a-mins supplements - anyone use these?
Chemar replied to Tracey111's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Tracy, as far as I know pycnogenol (pine bark extract) *lowers* dopamine levels by lowering the "stress hormone" levels -
How long do I follow Dr orders, when tics are returning?
Chemar replied to Tracey111's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
agreed!! I think she was trying to sell her product
