Hi Char if that is the same as reflexology then yes, my son has that when he goes for acupuncture and really finds it very very helpful. He can actually feel the tension release in various parts of his body. he also has a wooden foot roller here that he uses when at his desk working etc

Problems with risperdal and natural calm(magnesium)
Chemar replied to mom2ck's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi Mom after what I saw clonidine do to my husband I sure understand why you dont want to go back to it! honestly, I have reached the point where I am not even surprised anymore when I hear of these kinds of responses from docs. they are always quick to blame everything BUT the drugs when my son was having the horrid drug reactions they kept wanting to put him on more drugs to take away the symptoms that the other drugs were causing I am glad the earaches have eased since you adjusted the med dose None of my family have been on risperdal but I have friends whose kids also had bad side effects from it -
Hi again Elana I answered some on the other thread re me also having a husband with TS, as well as my son its a mixed bag I think. Most of the mood stuff is organic and related to the biochemical imbalances that come with TS. Sometimes tho I do feel my guys use their disorders as a "least line of resistance" tho both my hubby and son tried meds but with yuck side effects and in fact the meds seemed to aggravate the condition. as I mentioned on your thread we have found keeping their diet balanced and free of chemical additives along with correct supplementation to be key in stabilizing mood/OCD
-
Hi Elanasilver I split your post off the other thread so you could have more people see and respond to it I have both husband and son with TS and yes, the moods/OCD etc really are the issue for both of them more so than the tics themselves as you saw on my thread of the treatments that have helped my son, maintaining good nutrition and supplements has been key to helping BOTH of them with these issues, and as itsme pointed out, also getting rid of toxins and infections like Candida etc the OCD and mood issues are related to the biochemical problems I have had to learn monumental patience and yes, self sacrificial love in living with my guys....but knowing these are truly things that are mostly involuntary for them has helped me rise above the hurts and frustrations it can bring, and thankfully find these natural ways to help stabilize things for them

hi Abbe many of our kids react to fluorescent light especially those who have photosensitivity my son takes 500mg taurine and yes it is the same amino acid found in compounded magnesium taurate
-
taurine and L-carnitine along with increased magnesium seems to help many my son also uses Bach's Rescue Remedy and increases epsom baths (uses footbath and mag cream too) acupuncture is one of the fastest ways for immediate relief in tic waxing for him

((((((((((brink))))))))))) have you done any cognitive behavioral therapy for your son? finding a compassionate caring therapist to help with CBT can make a big difference (care tho to avoid therapists who want to "change" him as opposed to help him cope with who he is!) it is real hard to know where to draw the line on what is being caused by the disorders and what is willful acting out in our kids and so I do really feel for you is he taking anything for the OCD/serotonin? my son's OCD has always been a far bigger problem for him than the tics and he simply has to keep up his supplements to elevate his serotonin or he spirals down. sorry such a short post but I need to start working. just wanted to leave that hug and some of the things that worked for us. I hope that you are managing to take some time for you as you need to be able to regroup and breathe to have the strength and patience. I will be keeping you and your precious son in my prayers

COuld Anything in these cause my tics?
Chemar replied to AHB900's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
sucralose aka splenda sets off my sons tics and has other health problems associated with its use artificial anything can be a BIG tic trigger carrageenan is possibly linked to some bowel disorders i dont know about these nor the creatine but seem to think I read somewhere of maltodextrins not being ok???? and some amino acids can trigger tic increases. someone with more biochemical insight may be able tohelp more on those the vitamins themselves look ok tho that magnesium oxide is not going to give you much magnesium absorbed. oxide is the worst form. you may need extra magnesium in another form to lower tics -
we have found P-5-P to be the best form of B6 to use I am kinda rusty on this but doesnt high kynurate also indicate pyroluria? in the past we have had members whose kids tics resolved once this was treated with B6 and zinc I believe (check me on that please tho as I am not sure of the details anymore)

Hi EAMom and others on our PANDAS forum can give you more info on that, but if he has never had blood titres done for strep antibodies it would be a very important thing to check. PANDAS kids frequently have no obvious signs of strep infection and yes, the strep can lurk. severe OCD etc is a symptom have you ever tried 5HTP OR trytophan. when my son's OCD was raging we tried meds but that only made things worse. 5HTP *really* helped him then. (He uses high dose inositol powder now as "maintenance" but back then only the 5HTP stoped the serious cycle he was in) I am absolutely by a doctor discounting your concerns on lead poisening Having tests for that as well as mercury and other heavy metals would be a needed thing IMO dont feel alone tho on leaving doc's offices with that put down feeling..........so many conventional docs seem incapable of seeing outside their freshman textbook and do not even bother to keep up with conventional advances in medicine, nevermind sound alternative knowledge. I do hope you manage to find a way to stabilize this for your son and that you will read and ask on the PANDAS forum too (our Tourette/tics forum also has a lot of helpful info on OCD) here is a ((((hug)))) for you as I know exactly how devastating it is when one is trying to help a precious child suffering intense OCD

to Alison, Lynnie and our other Australian members I do hope you are all safe with these awful fires, and that your areas are not affected keeping all Australians in my thoughts and prayers through this awful time.

when my son was briefly on homeopathy I know they also mentioned something about sulfer. my son never took it as homeopathic remedy but we did start using the epsom baths because of the combination effect of the magnesium being sulphated when I was much younger and living in London, I developed an infuriating continuous feeling of pins and needles. I went to see a homeopath who prescribed the sulphur pillules for me and the sensations stopped and never returned!

Hi so sorry you are in this very hard position I am no fan of the antipsychotics only because of the serious side effects my son suffered from them..... but if nothing else is working in that you cant get him to take anything else.....and his (and your!) life is being so impaired.....then you have to try something I hope that if they medicate him, the drug chosen will have least side effects and most benefits, and that he will be able to be compliant. all the best and do stay in touch with us God Bless

hi myrose we have always been told to leave 3 hr between the pro and anti biotics we sure have had some cold days here in the sunshine state huh! hope your daughter feels better soon

my son needs 12-16 grams Inositol per day to keep the OCD under control.

Hi Natural Calm's magnesium formula seems to promote sleep so it is very possible that, combined with whatever effect the clonidine has, could be causing the sleepiness robitussin and any antihistamines also cause drowsiness I am not a fan of clonidine as it had weird side effects on my husband so I tend to see it in a negative light

Chemar replied to mylittleangel's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics

My Facial Tics are really starting to bother me
Chemar replied to AHB900's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
depends on the kind of doctor most conventional docs see tics=Tourette and not many recognize the allergy/nutritional/infection etc connections Alternative/naturopath/environmental/integrative type docs are more clued up IMO on these things personally I wouldnt go near MSG and even many top Asian food manufacturers have eliminated it totally because of its wide ranging health problem triggers -

Chemar replied to AHB900's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
if you are ticcing *only* because of allergic reaction to foods then yes eliminating them will take your tics away. if offending foods are just a part of your tic puzzle, you will have moved at least one step closer to solving it. if you fell no better after removing them then likely they are not your triggers, but generally they seem to be pretty ick for everyone, tics or no tics. -
My Facial Tics are really starting to bother me
Chemar replied to AHB900's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Abbe no one of us can predict whether anything suggested here would totally remove your tics as has been mentioned many times...it depends on what is CAUSING your tics and those factors are varied. however many here who have identified the triggers for tics have seen remarkable results when eliminating those...in some cases with total remission of the tics (eg those with food/environmental allergy induced tics) not all cases of tics are Tourette Syndrome and so yes, some tic disorders CAN be totally "cured" and even tho there is not yet a finite cure for TS, even there the many helpful things we advocate here can change things dramatically, as with my son. He does still tic yes, but 10 years ago his tics etc were so bad he could not live a "normal" life. Changing his diet, environment and adding supplements, acupuncture etc while also cleaning out the candida "yeast", mercury and other toxins changed his condition from very severe to mild -
My Facial Tics are really starting to bother me
Chemar replied to AHB900's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi pure organic food does not have any additives my son eats a full and balanced diet, one that he really enjoys, yet without any chemical additives it just takes a little care in reading labels if you have tourette syndrome then cleaning diet will help but wont eliminate tics. as yet there is no complete "cure" for tourette tics. if your tic is caused by strep/mono or related to something else, again cleaning your diet will help eliminate potential triggers but until you determine exactly what is causing your tic, it is all just little steps to help -
Bonnie new carpeting is considered to be a major tic trigger because of the chemicals released into air. I know their are eco/people friendly paints and woodwork around now so feel sure there must be carpeting that doesnt exude the toxins but yes, new carpeting has been found to trigger tics for some

likely MSG (BIG tic trigger!!) in the McD chicken nuggets too btw histamine is what our bodies produce when allergic reaction takes place...so if you have food or environmental allergies, your histamine is up high some people find some tic relief from anti-histamine like benedryl...but much better to try to remove the offending allergens than add another chemical med IMO -
