bgbarnes Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 thewaytowellness.com Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks. Michael We did a QEEG on my ds when he was6 and then followed up with biofeedback sessions- we did not know about PANDAS. At the time a psychologist had diagnosed my son ADHD- and a severe case and he "needed medication immediately or I would be severely impairing his life". My Mommy gut said she was wrong- I said Iwas going to look into natural treatment which led us to a QEEG. They say they can identify ADHD in teh brain with a QEEG. The person who developed the technology actually read my sons results and determined he is ABSOLUTELY NOT ADHD. He thinks faster than most people and hassome impulse control issues but is not ADHD. We did the biofeedback to retrain his brain- I think it worked well- we stopped b/c insurance was not covering and it was pricey. They can also identify all sorts of medical conditions through brain activity. MY ds loved it- he got to control video games with his mind- he had to get his brain waves to a certain place to make it move. They would change the target setting depending upon what they were working on. Our therapist was Rusty Lozano in Addison/ Plano Texas- I highly recommend him. Hope that helps! Brandy

Chemar Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 (edited) we were advised not to do neurofeedback by our integrative MD as she felt it was not a good idea for some kids with TS & OCD. I have seen similar anecdotal reports of a negative reactrion posted by some parents whose children also have tourette syndrome with OCD I dont know why it can have a negative effect on some of these kids, and was not willing to try it for my son (who does also have mild ADD) based on our physician's advice and those anecdotal reports we did do biofeedback, but that is very different I have heard good reports re neurofeedback and ADHD so I guess, as with all treatments, it depends on the individual as to whether it is beneficial or not, and as to whether it can have unwanted side effects or not Edited May 1, 2010 by Chemar

fuelforall Posted May 1, 2010 Author Report Posted May 1, 2010 Hi, Well, I've been writing back and forth with the neurofeedback therapist. She has indicated that I can speak to the woman in Seattle who is carrying the flame for the late margaret Ayers who founded neurofeedback. She insists Tourette's CAN be treated and that not all neurofeedback is created equal. She has asked to take her best shot, that a lot can be learned from the first two-hour evaluation. Probably what I would want to do and then think about it. She is in essence saying, let me take a shot at him and see what I can find out. My son has major regulation issues. Sensory issues that are over the top. Allergies-1600 IGE. He is uncomfortable in his own skin. His regulation issues are emotional as well. Besides we're getting pretty desperate here. I know, Dr K says the six week period which we are approaching is suicide time for parents post IVIG. Then things start to settle. It's just that nothing has worked up until now. I will say his allergy treatments have lessened inhalant allergies off season- they seemed to be a problem year round before that. Very difficult, very sad around here. My son has been so sick for so long. We are at wit's end. Michael

Regarding the biofeedback: This is not the quite the same as the professional equipment or guidance, but an option. http://www.wilddivine.com/meditation-products.html The kids friendly games are wild divine and wisdom quest. Unfortunately, I have not been able to get my daughter (12) to do this since she has acquired PANDAS. Previously she loved it and was very good at it. I believe she was 10 when she first got it. Younger friends (6 and 9) have used it too and loved it. My 14 year old gets on it when he is "fed up". The price is significantly higher than when we got it. Perhaps there are used ones out there. somone i know has been strongly suggesting wilddivien....... you say the kids enjoy it.....but does it have any benefit????? is that bio or neruo feedback?? fuelforall Posted May 1, 2010 Author Report Posted May 1, 2010 Cheri, Lynda Wells said her mentor does not use the Othmer protocol in neurofeedback because it does indeed exacerbate tics. She says her system does not. For sure! mICHAEL
bgbarnes Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Thanks for the tip on Wilddivine - I will have to check it out! Brandy
DebbieC Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 We did neurofeedback for our son - he liked going and really liked the therapist. We took him from Aug. to Mar. of this year when he lost medical coverage. I didn't see any changes really, though the dr. said it could take many, many sessions. My son had some tics, but not extreme. Didn't seem to make them worse, and his vocal tics started with the med changes. I think I would take him back for neurofeedback if he would get coverage again. The dr. said he had some good results with decreasing tics. Debbie we were advised not to do neurofeedback by our integrative MD as she felt it was not a good idea for some kids with TS & OCD. I have seen similar anecdotal reports of a negative reactrion posted by some parents whose children also have tourette syndrome with OCD I dont know why it can have a negative effect on some of these kids, and was not willing to try it for my son (who does also have mild ADD) based on our physician's advice and those anecdotal reports we did do biofeedback, but that is very different I have heard good reports re neurofeedback and ADHD so I guess, as with all treatments, it depends on the individual as to whether it is beneficial or not, and as to whether it can have unwanted side effects or not
