"The Insanity Virus"

Recommended Posts

http://discovermagazine.com/2010/jun/03-the-insanity-virus/article_view?b_start%3Aint=0&-C

Schizophrenia has long been blamed on bad genes or even bad parents. Wrong, says a growing group of psychiatrists. The real culprit, they claim, is a virus that lives entwined in every person's DNA.

It's too long to cut and paste the whole article. Please follow the link:)

Thanks for posting. Psychiatrists will need to go back to school to learn how to treat infections in order to cure their patients. Strep, Lyme, bartonella, babesia and now viruses causing mental illness- so interesting. Also it's interesting that they recommend treating a schizophrenic who has the virus with artemesia, a Chinese herb used to treat Lyme and babesia.

Thanks for the article Vickie! :) Interesting. Not sure I'd agree with the idea that more vaccines are what we need tho'. ;)

I love that science is going back to finding the root of mental illnesses. To me, all mental illness is suspect knowing what I know about strep now. Throw in Lyme Disease & other tick-borne illnesses & that makes mental illness even more suspect. I do believe there are "organic" versions, but infections, the interactions of the immune system, allergies/cytokines & such make so much more sense to me. Especially if you view the brain as a machine...why would a machine sabotage itself? Invaders that create reactions just makes sense to me. It seems far-fetched that we have evolved into beings incapable of overcoming a childhood memory when we used to have to survive harsh weather conditions, forage/hunt for food and outwit terrible predators. It seems far-fetched that we could be taken down by a tiny bacteria or virus cell too...but then we all know the awful truth of that reality.

Absolutely fascinating! Thanks for posting this. It hits home with me since I have an aunt who is schizophrenic... My mom has issues too. My grandma is no longer with us, it would have been so interesting to find out what might have been going on at the time my aunt became ill. I know her dad had died recently, so stress may have brought it on. But in general "that side" of the family is riddled with mental problems.

But, for my family, oh my! So much hope. To me this article emphasizes how important it is to get my kids treated properly. It goes along the line of the "multiple infections" theory that was posted not too long ago.

Someone had suggested to me the use of Lomatium, which is supposed to target viruses. I'll definitely add that to our regimen.

And I found super interesting the fact they are trying out Artemisinin. I have been giving it to my daughter because it's one of the herbal remedies recommended for Lyme and co-infections!

Thanks so much for posting this!

I posted that article on NT's Schizophrenia forum and was interested to see mrsD's response re the cytokines in pregnancy etc

Thanks for the link... I wish they could do a study including any maternal illnesses and how that correlates to the child's mental health later on.

Also very interesting in the original article how they emphasize it's not just the virus but the immune response that determines whether or not there will be neurological/psychiatric involvement... sounds so much like PANDAS. I wonder did they ever try plasmapheresis on schyzophrenia or MS patients?

I totally agree. I read that part a few times to see if I was misunderstanding it. In other articles, it has cited that when a pregnant woman gets the flu vaccine, it increases their chance of having a child with Schizophrenia, and goes along with the idea of this article. So,why would one want to vaccinate a pregannt woman or newborn. It does say it would be a neutralizing antibody. So, maybe it's something different than the type of vaccine I'm thinking about? That one did throw me for a loop.

Thanks for the article Vickie! :) Interesting. Not sure I'd agree with the idea that more vaccines are what we need tho'. ;)

Thanks for posting another great article....

I been saying that for years...and i'm just a lay person who's a people watcher...Infected i tell you...

now that i got that out...

i have a thought that kinda scares me....

if these viruses are intertwined with the dna....it would seem they are harder to rid...

could that be what happens for some pit/pan kids who don't get treatment quick enought...(non-responders)

is that why some are not seeing results with ivig or other big guns..(and i'm including lymes, celiacs, chrones, any auto immune, parasites)..it just gets intertwined in the DNA...?

i would like to hear any thoughts anyone has...

have they tried pex or ivig in any study, for the these people???

also what about high dose vitamin c...(not the pill kind...the intraveniuouse type)

have heard it being used for cancer, and recently one case in australia for swine flu...guy on life support...and he's fine now...of course it's contriverail there too.....even after they say going to die...it's okay to pull life support but not to try vita c?????

Unfortunately phsychiatry will supress/disregard this info as long as they can, otherwise they will be out of a job and the pharm companies will suffer (better to treat than to cure)...

Sorry for the cynacism...I've just seen too much (having been a pharm sales rep...don't throw tomatoes at the screen please)
