  1. We are in the process of getting a new TV and I recall reading but can't remember which one is worse for tics. Is it LED or LCD? If asnyone has any info please let me know. Thanks, Mar
  2. Thank You Chemar. I have read alot about it but was still hesitant and still am a little. I will hold off for now. Mar
  3. I Have a question abour sovereign silver. DS wakes up with a fever today (not 100.5). His only symptoms as of know are tired and blah feeling. Anyway, someone recommended sovereign silver last week. Never used it and was wondering if there are any side effects I should be worried about. Is it save for children and has anyone had it work for them. I was thinking about trying it on my son. Of course I go online and the first thing I find is your skin turning a silver or blue. Great I think. Thanks! Mar
  4. When giving Vitamin D3 is there another vitamin that needs to be given with it or is it ok to give on its own? Mar
  5. I have been told to give DD nasonex. Of course I looked up the side effects and am afraid to give. Anyway, how does this steroid relate to the tics. Has anyone used this and seen bad side effects and how did it affect tics? Mar
  6. Julie your story sounds exactly that same as my sons. The eye blinking that would last a couple of weeks and return the following year at the same time. His were in the fall though. And then last fall is when it all went insane. It turned to shoulder shrugs, mouth opening, eye blinking, lip licking, anger and everything all at the same time. I also noticed an increase during tv time. I thought that might be the cause. I went absolutely crazy and my husband thought I was nuts! Let me just tell you that I would have not figured anything out with out the allergy testing (skin prick) and blood test for food sensitivities). He came up with a lot of outdoor allergies and about 28 food sensitivities (some of these sensitivities were then confirmed with a skin prick allergy test). Anyway, I went through a year now with total elimination diet which also includes dyes, preservatives, msg and all the nasty things. It was horrible and hard ( I won't lie) lots of fighting between dear son and I. Husband thought I was insane and beleived I should be checked into a clinic and at times I thought the same. I would go into dear sons bed at night while he was sleeping and just cry and pray and would hear him grinding his teeth like crazy. I would hold him and hug him and pray for someone to help me help him. I did alot of crying and praying. Many times I did not want to get out of bed in the morning. I was pretty much a walking zombie filled with tears just trying to make a meal that he would hopefully like a little. All through this time dh though I was nuts and insane. Forgot to mention that dh has ticks. So I would make his ticks worst by talking about it and it got to the point that I could not even talk to him. In my head I thought that I can't help dear son, am making dh husband tic more. I thought I really was going nuts with sorrow and guilt. But hey 1 year later it payed off. The diet payed off. My son has been doing extremely well this fall. His tics are 95 percent bettter. I think that allergies had a lot to do with it. Keep fighting and stay strong. Don't let anyone tear you down. You have to keep fighting and doing what you feel is right. I also added a multivitamin and did salt baths in the beginnig. You will get through this one step at a time. Mar
  7. Thanks for the feedback. Let me just tell you how crazy this gets. OK my DS has had motrin all his life (he has had many high fevers). So anyway I went out and got the dye free last night and gave him a dosage before bed (for his fever). These are the ingredients (anhydrous citric acid, butyparaben, flavor, glycerin, high frotose corn syrup, hypromellose, polsorbate 80, propylene glycol, purified water, sodium benzoate, sorbitol solution, xanthan gum). Let me just say he was not really congested and he did not cough once during his illness. Within 15-20 minutes he was so congested and coughing and almost crying (pretty much did start tearing up) because he could not breath out of his nose. I had him breathing in steam from boiled water with eucalyptus drops for about 15 minutes. He moaned that everytime he would blow his nose he feels it coming right back and he was coughing at the same time. Said he felt it going into his ears when he blew. This lasted about 1 1/2 hours. He cound not fall asleep and kept saying it's the medicine. I can not and will not try motrin again. My question is what type of ibuprofen do I give for fevers in the future ( he is my high fever child)? He woke up this morning saying he could breath out of his nose again. Crazy me is trying to figure out what ingredient is causing this. I mentioned it to the ped. and she says "oh yes, wow he is reacting to something" Thanks alot lady!! Asked her about an alternation and mentioned motrin tablets. Yes, are'nt these pink or purple (probably contain more crap then what I gave him. I am thinking the HFCP but who knows. Mar
  8. I have been out of touch for several months now. I guess the stress from the school year beginning and what I went through last fall just tore me up this year. From the 1st day my DS went to school I just went into panick mode! I was so afraid and did not want to relive what we went through last year that I completely stressed myself out and was not feeling well for several months. But I think I'm good and back (God help me). Her it is especially for new comers. My dear son has been on his diet for about 11 months now and it has done wonders. If you have seen any of my other posts he is off eggs, wheat, gluten, milk, dyes and pretty much everything!! Way to much to list and he is doing absolutely great in regards to tics!!!!! He has not had the blinking or shoulder movements yet. He came home one day with his lips alittle red but it only lasted a day! This diet has helped him greatly. Yes the diet is extremely hard in the beginning (I am not going to lie) but it has paid off in the long run. He understands now and realizes everything about how foods affect him (not in the ticcing department). He sees it as more what causes congestion and what not. But throughout this diet we figured out that eggs, milk and peas cause congestion. Sometimes within hours. We stay away from these. Wheat I am still trying to figure out (maybe OCD and hyperness). We dealt with many episodes of anger, ragging and crying last year around this time. I have realized throughout the year that his OCD may be causing this (never in a million of years would I know this if it wasn't for this forum, thank you). That is the one thing we are dealing with now. We are reading books and he is understanding that it is OCD(green guy we call it). That is his major issue right now but since he is more open and dicusses it with me we no longer see the rages and anger. It's more of "mommy I need to talk to you". He has been doing his homework well without any anger and issues and is basically getting straight A's (which I am so proud of). I am trying to help him with the OCD, which I'm still trying to figure out if he is too young for therapy at this time. His OCD is more stressful things like "I am thinking of death" before bed but after I say a couple of things he is out cold within 5 or so minutes. He is still a perfectionist like my husband (whom has TS also). Anyway, this diet has been a blessing. I am now busy working on DD (who is 5). I am seeing signs in her. Mar
  9. Hello everyone it's been awhile. I have a quick question if anyone could help. DS has a fever and the tylenol and motrin (which have dyes and corn syrup of course) seem to make him really congested and make him sneeze. This is the second time I have noticed this. The last time he had motrin he sneezed for 45 minutes (crazy). It has to be the dyes is my assumption. He has been off them for almost a year. Anyway, is their anything else I could give for fever that does not make him miserable. Bringing down the fever is nice but I know it is making him miserable with congestion. He is 8 and weights 71lbs. Thanks, Mar
  10. A couple of weeks ago I took DD5 to get tested. I took her to this new place where they test by putting a metal rod in her hand and see what things she stesses high to. Don't remember what it's called but know several people that have gone to her and said results are accurate. DD would not do a blood test so I figured start somewhere. She came back with a lot of similiarities of DS, like gluten, wheat, oats, lemons, oranges, All citrus fruits, all dyes, milk. She showed results for chlorine (we just got a pool put in so help me god if we have issues!!!) I have talked about DS alot but in the meantime have noticed things in DD. Crazy but she is opposite of DS. The things I have noticed (since Dec) she pulls on her interial eye once in awhile (usually when overtired or stressed). She does not do the eye blinking DS did but keeps pulling at the eye. I recently noticed her blink but the eyes blinked seperately and only two times. Then I think It a vocal tick where once again DS never did where she will make these loud sounds once in awhile. She gets hyperactive at times and she has thetemper which both DS and husband have. I have no idea what a vocal tick is or sounds like but hearing these sudden loud sounds out of her is frightening. They do not happen often and are totally unpredicable. Actually they are very minimal but when they happen my red lights go off. She is very self confident and lets everyone konw what she wants which is completely the opposite of DS. I was expecting the worst but hoping she would'nt be affected. Any info would be great and thanks for listening!! Mar
  11. Have been disconnected for about 4 weeks (computer and internet issues). Glad to be back!! dS seems to be doing well. Don't notice any major tics. Don't remember if I mentioned before but he does this swing thing alot the past month. He was in baseball. He swings his arm as if holding a bat hitting the ball. Does/did it often during baseball season and is still doing it. Hey I could handle this. Still had some OCD issues (looking at stove) but very mild. He got a new pair of shoes and didn't want anyone touching them or getting them dirty but then after a week told me that if he gets them dirty then he won't care about them as much. He used them for a couple of days and then did not mention them and does not worry about them since. It seems OCD and anxiety are his major issues right now. I have reintoduced lots of fruits and he is doing well and Loving it!!! But I still believe yeast issues will be holding us back again! Mar
  12. Thats interesting. My son never had poison ivy. Last summer he did have crazy reactions to mosquito bites (major swelling where he got bit) never had it before and has not gotten it this year with a bite. But anyway, when he comes down with something his tics and OCD go away until he starts feeling better. Mar
  13. Faith Thanks for the reply. Your post got me wondering. DS has never ever complained of leg pain but DD who just tuned 5 has had several episodes of crying at night because her legs hurt. This has been going on for years with her. It does not happen all the time . She will wake up crying say her legs hurt for one day or maybe two in a row and go for months without any complaint. It's has been driving me nuts!! I have had restless leg as I child I recall and then had it a couple of times after one of my pregnancies. I know I had it a couple of times which the change of weather. But really only had it a couple of times in the last five years. But anyway she really scares me sometimes with this leg pian at night. She will cry and say her legs hurt. Then she will wake up in the morning and it's fine. And like I said its not very often. Actually is was more often a couple of years back but now she goes several months even 4 months without complaining. People tell me its growing pains but I still wonder. In the last year she occasionlly says her legs are tired throughout the day and this last time it did coincide with her pain at night. One more thing to make a mother go crazy with worry!! Also she seems to be clumsy. I swear she is always bumping into things or tripping. She has always been like this. Don't know if this could have anything to do with TS. She has always complained of belly aches also. Which are usually short lived. Either she has to go potty or they disappear within 5 minutes. I am having her allergy tested on the 27th. We will see. Hope everything is good on your end. Thanks for listening!! Mar
  14. Thanks for the reply Faith, Yes I do now know that milk causes the mucus but that wasn't his issue at the time. He did'nt have anything out of his diet at the time. I made him his own dinner and appetizers. The cake was the only thing out of his diet that day. It is a huge Wow!! That that caused that reaction. That is the first and only time he acted like that. It is crazy!! Thanks again for your rely and info. Mar
  15. meckert That is kind of weird because my DS started with his first eye blinking that caught my attention at 3 1/2 in November. This only lasted about a week. Nothing throughout the year and then came November again at 4 1/2 and the eye blinking reapeared for about two weeks (don't remember exaclty but know it was worst then the prior year). Once again no eye blinking till that time again. By that time I was wondering what is it with that time of the year!! I would definatly keep an eye on it and start looking into things because the spring of him being 6 I noticed spitting, mouth opening for several weeks (never really noticed it before during this time) and then came the fall of the worst time ever (7 1/2). For my son allergies are the worst!! And it definatley gets bad throughout allergy season. Also foods could contribute which I recently found out. I would start really looking into it because I now regret not nowing sooner. Mar
  16. We learn somthing new everyday. He woke up with no sneezing and less congestion and seems to be doing much better. The brain fog really scared me. Thanks for the reply! Mar
  17. So my son made his first Communion yesterday and all went well. He was nervous bout no tics surfaced. I am so proud of him. Anyway, Igave him a piece (less than an inch thick) of plush horse ice cream cake. I though I would let him get away with it on his big day! Woke up completely stuffy and sneezing like crazy. Walked into my room saying " mom I think it must be the cake". Looked alot better when he got home from school. So my daughter had the cake tonight and ds asked for it again. Gave him a smaller piece then yesterday and within an hour noticed some stuffiness but this is where the scary part comes in. I told something (about twenty words) to grab something and head upstairs to bed and he turned around and said he didn't hear half of what I said. I was like what do you mean you can't hear me. I said do you hear me know and he said yes but he did'nt hear half of what I said prior. He was then just standing there so I was like "go upstairs and brush your teeth". Once again he turned around and looked at me and said I can't hear what your saying. This really freaked me out!! I was like do you hear me now and he said yes, so I said why do you keep telling me you can't hear me and he said I don't know and tears started running down his face. We went upstairs and he and I asked again if he could hear me he said yes but said maybe we shoud clean his ears. Anyway could the cake (food sensitivites) cause this brain fog or whatever you would call this. It's like he was confused. There was no anger just confused. Gave him som benedryl and when he went to bed he seemed fine. No ticcs from the cake just congestion and sneezing. Mar
  18. Hi Cheri, The reasons I stopped the taurine were that my son is diabetic and i had read that it can lower BP and also lower blood glucose levels. I also read somewhere (cant remember where now) that for one child it actually made things worse. But after I posted the message I decided to put him back on it as things were quite bad after the macdonalds food etc. I have chatted with him today and explained that, for now, we need to keep his food 'clean' and he understands. I am guessing the macdonalds food contains msg and various other 'nasties' so will keep away from it for now. Is there a list of 'clean' foods available on here I could look at? I nearly bought some ham today at the deli - but then thought it may contain preservatives and other things - but i do need these sorts of things for sandwiches for school lunch - any ideas? I noticed also that bacon has preservatives in! I was of the impression that age 12 was the peak 'tic' age and that things mostly started to get better rather than worse around this age group. So are you saying that things are likely to get worse as my son goes into puberty? Thankyou for your reply - very helpful. Bev x Bev I buy the Hormel lunchmeat and bacon that does not contain preservatives. I get this at jewel or Walmart. Mar
  19. Don't know if this info will help. But I think it might be food related. DS had something that he was sensitive to and within an hour he kept making these choking sounds and said he was just choking on his spit. It happened twice, it seems like the spit gathers up I beleive he is not swallowing it and ends up choking on it. It only happens with a certain food. I stopped the food and never seen it again. And then the weird thing is his grandfather mentioned that when he started eating some type of chocolate again which he has not had for while that he couldn't swallow. this was within a couple of weeks of my sons episode. He said he just could'nt seem to swallow his spit and of course to start to panic which makes it worse. Anyway I told him to stop eating the chocolate and it went away within a day. I think that it might be food related. Mar
  20. This is the thing with us. we noticed eye blinks during the fall I believe Oct/Nov when he was four and five which lasted about two weeks. Didn't think much of it, it went away. Once I started kind of paying attention spring of 09 (age 6) noticed mouth opening in March which lasted several weeks and then spitting for a couple of weeks in spring/Summer (don't remember but know it was there). Never spit in the house just outside on certain days. Like I said this fall (7 1/2) everything hit at once. Tics and congestion for three months straight. Allergist pointed out all outdoor stuff but wouldn't do food testing because no excema. I wasn't satisfied and got food sensitivity test and wow!! Found out their are food allergies and then confirmed food skin prick tests. Has been on elimination diet and has been doing better. The other day did the spitting thing once again throughout the day outside. His tics definately correlate with his outdoor allergies. And during food elimination he says that he feels better. Not tired and fatigue according to him. No it is not easy, it took awhile with some bad fights and arguments. I didn't think we would get through it but now 4 months later we actually talk about the hard times and he tells me it was hard and he cheated many times at school. But it is going well. Not perfect (he is a child and has his wants and needs) We all eat better as a family and he seems so much more happier overall. But I guess I won't see the real affects of the food elimination till the fall hits which was the worst time ever for us!!! I pray that we will not repeat the past!! The only way I will know what impact food had would be during the fall because that was his worst! Mar
  21. Yes I see a definate allergy connection. He had all the tics you mentioned plus the sneezing/stuffiness/rubbing eyes/bags under eyes/paliness/tired looking and feeling this past fall. I beleive his aggression and frustration had alot to do with what he was feeling like. Who wouldn't be frustratated. I have done a complete elimination of his food allergies and many sensitivities (which I knew nothing about till he was tested). He has improved alot! Now that spring is here I see his spitting tic, this is one I seen last spring. He defiantely gets worst with his environmental allergies. Sorry but I am still trying to figure out what to do about those. Mar
  22. Thank you so much for the reply. My husband just picked up the vanilla bean today (they did'nt have the mint in stock) and ds loved it! Mar
  23. Thanks for the reply. Well I don't really know about the honey? We are doing the yeast free diet as of now and I know I have read in some places that it's ok and then in others that it's not but anyway I would definately like the recipes because I could use them in the near future. Thanks!! Mar
  24. Thanks for the relpies!! Summer is going to be hard wit hall the sweat traeats going around! CSP- You mentioned that you make your own ice cream. How do you go about doing that? He probably can't have the cookie part ( due to eggs and sugar) but I would be intereseted about the ice cream part. Thanks Again Mar
  25. I know I read it somewhere at one point. But does anyone know where to buy this in bigger quantities for a lower price. I currently buy the small bags at walmart and assume their is a better bargain somewhere else. Thanks Mar
