Thanks for the reply But yeah I notice everything now. I was driving a couple of weeks ago and noticed a man crossing the street on his cell phone. As I am watching him for no apparent reason, just waiting for the lights I notice his eyes blinking and all of a sudden I'm like oh my he has tics!! I keep watching him and keep seeing the eye blinking and am ready to pull over or crash!! Crazy but I never really paid attention till now and it's not like I am on the lookout or anything. I guess it's more like it's not just us and there are other people out there with it. To read about it and actually see it is kind of strange to me because I never ever noticed before. I am like a radar now. Yes I though about saying something but then I though my son would just die if he knew or if the girl mentioned something to him. He still does not know what he has is tics so that would cause more problems here that I don't need that right now, we have enough to deal with as is. I was thinking more that I would tell her I knew someone in the same situation and go with that. Mar

Just to let everyone know yes he has gotten better. It took several days so maybe the die-off? He is still showing signs of OCD which makes him look more on edge but the shoulder tics have imporoved. Thanks for all the feedback! Mar

This is crazy but I went to ds music class today for parents day. Right away I noticed this little girl with her face all red. I was thinking eczema ( I have a niece you had this bad). I know I have gotten way more observant lately but anyway as I was watching her I seen her licking her lips, rubbing her face on her arms and doing alot of nose/face movements. I almost fell off my chair!! I could not believe I was seeing another child with tics!! This is exactly what my son went through this past fall. But her poor face looked so much worse. The saddest part was that she was wearing this heavy knitted sweater and I was so ready to rip it off hear because it must hurt to rub her face on it. Crazy me was tryng to spot out her mother. This is sad to say but they both looked like they were not that well off meaning money might be an issue which really almost brought me to tears. I felt like I just wanted to tell her mom everything I knew but couldn't. I then heard her mom tellling her that needs needs to stop or the pain and reddness won't go away and I felt like I was hearing myself so many months ago when I was clueless. I so wish I could help this little girl but their is no way I can!! I then look at my son and have a smile on my face because I know that I am helping and will be forever thanks to everyone here!!!! It's still killing me because I can't stop thinking of her and wondering if her parents have a clue. I will have to pray for her tonight. Mar

I am in the process of buying new cookware and just purchased a set of Capholon refined stainless steel. Have not opened the box yet. First of all I notice made in China (which scares me off) and then am wondering what this refined means. Anyway any suggestions for some good cookware would be appeciated. Don't want to spent all the money and find out its trash. Thanks Mar

Not sure which tests by dr C that you are referring to if it is the CamKinase test that she does to try to determine if a patient may be PANDAS, then no, this is a completely different type of test and is specifically designed to measure the levels of the neurotransmitters in the brain, nothing to do with PANDAS Thanks for all the info! How much would this test run about and would you know if insurance covers it. Mar

Thanks Chemar Those are the threads I was looking for. Like always thanks much for all your help! Mar

I am looking to get DS tested for his vitamin and mineral levels aslo do the pyroluria test. I recall reading that these could be done without a doctors signiture. Could someone please guide to the threads that explain the process of doing this. I am assuming it's cheaper to go this route. Mar

I am curious if anyone has done the nerotransmitter test and if so did it provide helpful info? Thanks Mar

Thanks for the info Chemar and Patty! Will be looking into the coconut info. Thanks, Mar

Thanks for the reply! Yes I know I went crazy. I guess after spending three hours in whole foods just to find something new took me of the deep end. I just want to make him happy! Will never do that again all at once! Learned my lesson. We live and we learn. Ice cream had (organic coconut milk, organtic agave syrup, chicory root extract, organtic dried coconut, carob bean gum, guargum, natural flavor). Everything was organic with no artifical ingredients. I spent hours reading labels. I also wonder if it could be the natural sugars in the ice cream (11grams per serving). Is natural sugar okay on candida dies as long as not listed in ingredients? Then of course he went to the dentist today and has a molar and another tooth coming in and a loose tooth. Also spring allergies coming on. All hits at once . But I feel 100% it was to the damage I did on Monday with the food. He has not had any of the items since. Though I did give him the ice cream today and while eating doing Umm sounds but could be because he enjoys it and is excited. Thanks Mar

I mentioned in other posts my son has been doing well with his tics and all since the implementation of his yeast free sensitivity free diet. Anyway on Monday after school he had the juice of a young coconut, 1/2 glass of Coconut milk, two scoops of coconut yogurt, two scoops of coconut ice cream and a slice of yeast free tapioca bread w/goat butter on it. OK first of all I know I'm crazy and totally overdid it with new things. He has'nt had any of this. He does not have a sensitivity to coconut according to his bloodwork. Really didn't want to add this but he also had a couple slices of a pickle(Bubbies) with was suger, vinegar, and preservative free. I know I went overboard but he was so happy!! Anyway all of a sudden he started ticcing like before my eyes. Pulling shirt on his shoulder, rolling both shoulders, umm sounds. I though must be from excitment because of all the new stuff. But hom efrom school on Monday and same thing. His tics dramatically increased from that day. Still doing it today and came in from playing with his friend and now his lips are chapped. Have not seen him like this since December!!! The reason I went crazy with all the coconut I though it would be could for the yeast diet. And then reading one of my many books last night I happened to read that goats milk is good for killing Candida. I just know its from one of the hundreds of things I gave him on Monday. I though I was doing good! Any advice! Mar

Thanks! I will have to do that soon. Mar

Thanks for the reply Chemar! I am definately still going with the diet. I also though the difference in the spit test was good but still believe it needs to be better. I do have the book you mentioned just have'nt gotton a chance to read it yet. It is on my list of things to do. Overall I do notice a difference. One major change is that he does not roll on his head anymore nor does he want to be on the ground all the time. This has basically not happened since I started. Yeah!!! Very excited about that. In December with the holidays he had things in school wether it was a sucker or cookies. He would just come home and lay on the kitchen floor at times. I would know when he had something. Pretty crazy. He snuck things several times towards the beginning at school and I tell you I could just look at him and know he had somthing. Anyway he has improved on not cheating at school. His tics have gone away or I should say have been very, very mild throughout. He tells me that he always seemed tired and that his bones used to hurt and that has gone away. So he actually feels better and wants to stay on the diet. The achyness could have been due to fall allergies so it could be a coincidence but I'll take it. Sorry I have to run to pick up dd... Mar

Hello Everyone, When I originally had my son do the spit test back in October I right away noticed the strings and cloudy water. We have been cleaning his diet and going yeast free since Jan 1. I did the spit test a couple of days ago and now it doesn't show the strings but instead starts showings little things floating around (hard to explain) and the water does get a little cloudy. It seems the spit break apart and makes the water a little cloudy. Is this a good difference then once we saw initially?? Mar

Vickie, I missed the posts on Singulair. Why is it a red flag and thanks for that bit of info. I have given it to my son in the past but will switch to Claritin. I know two parents that have given their kids Singulair and both noticed an increase of hyperactivity and night terrors. I actually talked to our pharmasist and asked about side affects and she mentioned her neighbors daughter had very bad night terrors. A friend of mine said her son woke up crying and that she could not get him to stop for a 1/2 hour. When he woke up in the morning he would not remember doing it the first time but after it happened a couple of times he finally told her he has very scary nightmares. Mar

Thanks Chemar and Pat for the feedback! It seems I recently discovered that he is having OCD. He would always tell me nothing is wrong and have alot of anger towards me when I though something was wrong. I would just see that look in his eye (must be a mother thing because my husband though I was crazy). But anyway as I started opening up to him about me worrying about things he started opening up to me. It was a gradual process because he would get very upset if I would ask him anything in the past . I had no clue until I started reading more of Faith's experiences. Anyway I got this book from Amazon "What To Do When Your Brain Gets Stuck" and introduced it to him as if I got it for myself. Within the first 5 pages he started opening up and telling me that it's hard to not think of the bad things that will happen if he does not do the things. Wow!! I am happy that we are able to talk about it now without the fights. I was just curious if this is something I could help him with or if he will need therapy. He was always a worrier which does run in the family. Should I try it on my own first or go to therapy?? I just know that it took a long time for him to open up to me and as of know trulely beleive there is no way he will tell a stranger what he worries about. I could bet that it would totally stress him out. So do I wait and see what happens or what?? It has not taken over his life but now I know where the irratability and some anger comes from. I could see and pinpoint it now. But am glad that the line of communication between us is open and he has me to come to for comfort and I understand. Thanks for listening. Mar

Newly Diagnosed Tic Disorder (7 1/2 year old girl)
mar replied to heidispidi's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Heidi Welcome! Don't know if I could provide you with much info but here is what I have learned since September from this awesome forum. All the things you mention below are tics. My son has had the eye blinking, stretching of his mouth, and shoulder shrugs. I husband has had the hand flapping when he was young. Son has not had this one yet. Stress and excitment are triggers for him and seems to be pretty common among many as from what I have read here. My son has environmetal allergies which defiantly bring on his tics. This fall was the worst I have ever seen him. He is 7 1/2 and it seems that that is the age when it comes on greater. My husbands started at the same age. Anyway, I got him tested for food allergies/sensitivities (IgG) because of reading on this site that those can be triggers. Let me tell you I would have never suspected any food allery os sensitivity but he came up with 28 sesitivities!! Also has several actual allergies to milk, eggs etc. I have taken everything out of his diet. He is not ticcing much now or at least they are not as noticible or excessive. I will take this anyday!! It definately helped his stuffiness. About OCD, yes my son has it. That seems to be more of the problem these days. OCD is tricky! I always assumed it was the typical hand watching, counting or things like that. You need to read Faith's postings. She helped me realize that my sons irritation and jumpiness and many other actions are due to his OCD. He worries alot! I got this good book on Amazon " What To Do When Your Brain Gets Stuck". It's a childrens guide book. We have been reading it together and he has been opening up to me about all the things he worries about and telling me that it is so hard not to think about the bad thoughs. Anyway, please keep reading this site. It did wonders in my journey. I know its hard and scary but the more you know the better you will be able to help her out. There are many smart, helpful and very knowledgable parents here that are all going through the same thing. Mar -
Patty Yes I am very interested in hearing any of the information you have on this. My son cound't breath out of his nose for several months in the fall do to ragweed, mold, pollen, grass and oak allergies. He always seems to tic the most during these months. So I know that his tics strongly relate to his enviromental allergies. Here I go with some questions (sorry). How often do you go? You mentioned 4 years-is this on a regular basis. have you ever tried allery shots or is this the route you chose instead? What type of food allergies were cleared? Were they actual allergies or sensitivites. To cut down on any of my sons 28 sensitivities would be great. Any info on the vials and how you collected samples would be helpful also. Do you bring those into the doctors? I researched some NAET practioners in my area yesterday and found about ten. Trying to figure out which one to chose. It is so expensive so do not want to make the mistake of picking one that won't work. How many visits have you done in the 4 years? Any info would be be of great help and I am glad to hear that it helped your son!

How long did you do the yeast diet for Chemar?
-
We seem to have the same problem here too! He tics way more during allergy season and spring is coming. His allergies also correlate with him ticcing. Fall seems be alot worse. That is why I am looking into allergy shots or something. I know some do not recommend them so it scares me to try them. I tryed giving him Claritan at night right before bed and it would help him with the sneezing but did nothing for the congestion. Benedryl makes him real drowsy so can't do that in the daytime. Did NAET work for your son? Mar

When on Candida Clear does one also do a yeast free diet? How long do you have to take the candida clear and/or do the yeast free diet? Are their any know side affects of the Candida Clear? Sorry for all the questions.. Mar

I'm happy to hear things are going well. It seems we are battling some of the same issues...stuffy, sneezing, pale, circles under eyes. My ds tics seem very allergy related, pulling at hose or eye lids, scratching face at times. No OCD or rages. 23 food sensitivies and allergic to molds. We are on a strict diet here as well. The only time my son tics is when he is excited or anticipating something, like when he is about to read or a book or watch a show, I think it has to do with his neurotransmitters as well. Yes we are. I do recall reading some of your earlier posts and though the same thing. My sons stuffiness and sneezing has gone away with the diet has yours?? He still looks a little pale at times but I'm hoping its because of winter and not enough sun these days. The bags come and go. But yes he mainly tics when he is excited or anticipates something as well. When he reads to himself he doesn't tic but when I read he has the occasional shoulder movement. I think he gets excited. He also occasionlly does the holding breath tic which seems to happen only when he wakes up and is laying in bed. But I lay next to him and we breath deeply and calmly together and it seems to help especially when I throw in a joke or do something funny which cracks him up and gets the edge off of whatever he is thinking.
