fuelforall Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 So my three and a half year old got his tonsils and adenoids out after he had strep numbers of 202. I figured, well, the numbers should go down afterwards, right? Nope. His ASO came back 2000 That's right. 2000 He felt fine that day. He is today blowing stuff out of his nose and coughing a bit but does not seem unhappy. The pediatrician wants to see him. He has no PANDAS knowledge. ENT who ordered the test is putting him on Augmentin for 10 days. Behaviors have not been too bad. But he will be seeing a PANDAS savvy neurologist next week. Hopefully this will help. He has clear neurological issues. Sigh.

Stephanie2 Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 fuelforall, So this is not your original pandas child? Are you saying that this child also has pandas? sorry to hear that, but I will say it is easier second time around, you already have the dx, the knowledge, the MD's. Just a matter of going through the motions again. Keep us posted. So my three and a half year old got his tonsils and adenoids out after he had strep numbers of 202. ajcire Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 What kind of neurological issues do you see in your litle guy?
mama2alex Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 And you're catching it early - 3 1/2. I'm sorry this is happening, but glad you are figuring it out so early in his life. Hope the appointment goes well and you get a good solid treatment plan in place for him! fuelforall, So this is not your original pandas child? fuelforall Posted August 11, 2010 Author Report Posted August 11, 2010 Hi, the ENT is suspicious the lab messed up the decimal point. She is having them redo it. She said the level was 2445. Which does seem weird. But if it turns out to be 244.5, that's still high. Also, antidnase was normal. He was on augmentin after he got done with tonsillectomy, of course. Neurological issues- he arches his back a lot, it's very abnormal looking. He doesn't see well below his waist. He doesn't hear well. He has bad hyperactivity, he can't sit still even to eat. We'll see.
AmySLP Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 Dealing with the same in my 3 1/2 year old daughter (my 6 year old was dx 18 months ago). My youngest has elevated C3-immune complexes when lab work was checked on her (neither of my children has increased titers, despite many diagnosed episodes of strep in my oldest) Anyhow, I question everyday if she has PANDAS (Dr B thinks it's early signs).. She has been treated for sensory problems, motor problems, has extreme separation anxiety at times, goes into rages frequently. I continue to question if this is being 3, being the youngest, or growing up with and modeling the behaviors of a PANDAS sibling. We see Dr B on Monday & I plan to discuss all this (actually though she is doing better after the last month of ABX) Amy
fuelforall Posted August 13, 2010 Author Report Posted August 13, 2010 Re test came back similarly. Is it the lab or what? Anyway, this could account for my older son's worsening. And the fact that he never gets better after IVIG. It looks like he has to be isolated from his brother a lot of the time. I do n't know what else to do.

Wow...well, at least you have an explanation for the non-response to IVIG! I wonder if there is a sinus infection that has been lingering. Many the next step would be a longer course of antibiotics (something like Azith. or clindamycin, like worried dad used).
fuelforall Posted August 13, 2010 Author Report Posted August 13, 2010 . Many the next step would be a longer course of antibiotics (something like Azith. or clindamycin, like worried dad used). Hm, yes but will my older son take the abx? He is sick of pills that do not work and he hates taking them, he hates medicines, he is a PANDAS boy. No fun.

Ooh...I assumed your PANDAS child was already on antibiotics. I meant for the younger child (it may help the younger child's symptoms as well). THey should both be on antibiotics. RE your PANDAS boy not wanting to take the meds. Have you considered paying your PANDAS child for taking meds? May a dollar a day (or dose)?
fuelforall Posted August 13, 2010 Author Report Posted August 13, 2010 RE your PANDAS boy not wanting to take the meds. Have you considered paying your PANDAS child for taking meds? May a dollar a day (or dose)? Yes. He won't. We've paid him to go to school. We've paid him for blood tests. We do all that stuff. He's hit bottom. We are going to a healer. We'll keep you posted.
