I was just wondering if anyone's child has been through chelation, if it worked, and what the doctor used. I believe Chemar's son went through this and they used Chlorella, but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. My son is going through it and I'm wondering if the things his doctor is using is working. It's been two weeks now. It's really hard for me to wait, I don't see improvements so far. I wonder if I could go and get a hair metals test and see if he actually has mercury and lead that needs chelated. Thanks for any info.

Hi kallik,

We are doing a slow gentle type of chelation on my son using a natural product called Metal Free given by our naturopath. However, we had done the urine challenge thru her first around February. That is a urine test where you are first given the drug DMSA and then collect urine for 6 hours. This test showed lead and mercury at higher levels after the challenge. This naturopath thinks slow and gentle using a natural product (I believe it contains chlorella too with other things) is a safe way to go for him. We also follow dietary restrictions and supplements as well. I also must mention that chelation pulls minerals too--did the doctor give minerals to take?

What type of product are you using? I don't think a hair test is accurate enough for this. Also, I don't think you are going to see any results after only two weeks. Chelation with even the DMSA drug could take a year or longer, and testing to see what is coming out would be done in intervals of at least six months apart. I don't think I've seen anything dramatic happening as a result of this product, however with all the talk we have had on the board recently regarding vaccines, I do want to continue with this and feeling it is a necessary part of our process. If you are interested in seeing where your son stands on the mercury, you will have to do this through a DAN doctor or naturopath who knows about this... (I will also mention that our DAN doctor told me he does not think the Metal Free is effective, but I am comfortable with it for now) ... How is your son doing otherwise?

the "chelation therapy" that is referred to sometimes here re metal detox is VERY different from the mercury chelating chlorella supplement that we used to help with my son's metal detox (he also has specific acupuncture resonance biofeedback for this)

Has your docotr run any tests to see if heavy metals are a problem for your child? it would be rather strange if he were doing a chelation program with no evidence that it is actually needed???

I just wanted to clarify my above post re the Metal Free. As Chemar pointed out it is different than the aggressive chelation to pull metals out using DMSA. Metal Free and other natural products are more of a metal detox and I believe it removes metals and impurities through the stools, not urine.

kallik,

Our first ND recommened chelation and really pushed it for my son. I did not feel comfortable then & i don't feel comfortable now. IMHO, i don't feel chelation is the answer for everyone. However, if your son's underlining problem is metals and it is the cause of the tics, then perhaps chelation is the answer.

I personally would try all possible options that are less invasive before considering it.

Thru this process, i learned not to do anything that you are not comfortable with. And don't work with drs. who operate on their protocols & not your child's. The thing about tics is that it is very individualized. Go with your parental gut instinct. I find that it has served me well.

Good luck.

I'm sorry bmom. I haven't heard of infared sauna yet. That's a new one for me. My son gets things like burbur drops, NDF PLUs, under his tongue, Algas metal detox, and Chlorella capsules, which have vitamins, minerals, and amino acids in them. He gave him Passiflora drops for his ADHD today to calm him. The doctor said it would be around two months of chelation. No urine challenge was done, but he did a body terrain test, and autonomic response therapy to ascertain he needed detox.

Hi Bmom,

I've considered using an infared sauna for not only removal of metals, but also pesticides. From what I've read, you have to be careful when picking out your sauna. I've heard people go back and fourth with saying Sunlight Saunas are the best & no, High Tech Health Saunas are the best, etc. Some saunas are made with a type of wood that when it's heated it bothers people. Some are made with toxic glues that can become a problem when the sauna's heated and the glues are outgassed. I've heard people talk about having to go really slow as far as the amount of time in the sauna because they've had trouble with detoxing too fast. Does your child sweat? If your child doesn't sweat that could present problems. What are your thoughts and findings with infared saunas?
