kim
Deanna, There is some info. here on zinc and taurine that you might want to read. http://www.alternativementalhealth.com/articles/walshQZ.htm from Willam Walsh, Ph.D., Senior Scientist, Pfeiffer Treatment Center www.hriptc.org good overview of taurine http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/sadhelp/taurine.htm Since the zinc/copper ratio is important, I was looking at copper, and had this link saved http://www.chemicalbalance.com/copper.htm
Irena
I also have some supplement questions: How exactly do you use TD glutathion (if you use it). Do you rub it onto a small area? One serving (1 little spoon) is enough to end up in massaging Stas's whole back. Or shall I use it on the inner side of arms, close to blood vessels? I have a feeling that we might have not resolved the candida problem, beacuse alongside the antifungal treatment with Fluconazole, Staś was taking ALA and NAC (not to mention fructose-based lithium and folinic acid from a compounding pharmacy), both feeding candida. Both, together with glutathion were meant to support his liver in detoxifying functions (Organix showed abnormality here). Today I decided to give it up and stick to TD glutathion only + plus some hepatic support (Milk Thistle - will it be OK?). Some time ago we also gave up lithium and folinic because of fructose. I will order both from Cenaverde (European distributor of Kirkman, New Beginnings and others). I read about some controversy of using ALA and NAC somewhere here on the board. It all added up. What do you think? I chequed Staś's liver enzymes as I worried about the side effects of Fluconazole treatment. Both within normal range although AST is the maximum of "normal". I also tested lithium again and it is still very low (0.1 mmol/l against normal range of 1-1.2). We are still using both NOW Candida Clear AND Monolaurin. Shall I stick to just one? Shall I rotate? They work (I hope they do!) in different ways. Thanks Irena
deagar
hi Deanna yes...that is correct...if you supplement separately with taurine you dont need to give mag taurate I am going to start the mag/cal with taurine tonight. If the suggested dose was 600 cal and 300 mag, do I need to work up to that or start with that? Also, if I should start at that dose, should it be divided up into two dose, 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 before bed? The same questions go for the taurine...do I start with 500mg or start lower and work up? If I start with it do I divide the dose into am and pm? Thanks! Chemar
Hi Deanna mag/cal and taurine are best given in the evening as mag seems to promote restful sleep the dose sounds correct for a single daily dose each evening to me unless your doctor said to do differently do be sure to encourage your child to drink lots of pure bottled water with the supplements
flower
I've tried looking for Magnesium Lactate online and I only see maybe two brands (one of which seem to have 'color' in their ingredients). Is anyone taking Mag Lactate which they purchase thru online store? Any info appreciated. Thank you. (Realized I've been taking Mag Oxide..!) Chemar
hi flower magnesium lactate, altho the most absorbable, is hard to find remember mag glycinate is also well absorbed and many companies are even making blended chelates of glycinate, taurate and citrate there is nothing wrong with mag oxide per se, but being that it is poosrly absorbed, it is a waste basically the reason that magnesium taurate is so good for people with tics is that not only does it provide a well absorbable form of magnesium, but the TAURINE with which it is compounded is an amino acid known to help with tic reduction in itself hope that helps
flower
Thank you very much, Chemar!! I will try the one with taurine!
patty
Chemar, I have read on this forum that "amino acid may be very be beneficial, taurine especially. However, amino acid have a very direct impact on the brain, therefore, it can also ELEVATE TS tics and other problems." Since Taurate provides Taurine, does that mean "Magnesium Taurate" may cause increase tics for some? Patty
Chemar
Patty a person with tics should not take ALL amino acids as supplements as SOME amino acids can increase tics , probably via stimulation of the dopaminergic system The amino acid Taurine has been found to REDUCE tics in most people (altho some, like Carolyn, do not tolerate it) In the vast majority of people with TS, taurine is beneficial, especially when taken with magnesium, to the point where Bonnie Grimaldi markets her own magnesium taurate (she also has info on her website re amino acids http://www.BonnieGr.com ) Once again, as with all supplements, one thing does not work the same for everybody....but i stress again that for the vast majority of people with TS, taurine is very beneficial
GErl
Hi, I want to ask another question about a particular brand multivitamin. I didn't want to start a specific thread for it. We've been giving my son supplements since march this year plus changes in diet and the changes have been dramatic, his tics have almost vanished, he still clears his throat once in a while and an occasional shoulder twitch, but apart from that no problem. However, as these are a whole lot of pills and capsules he has to take every morning and evening, we've been looking for a suitable multivitamin that includes the most important stuff (magnesium, zinc etc.). I was thinking about LifePak Teen from Pharmanex, and was wondering if anybody had any experience with it? Any problems, problematic incredients, etc. (I'm not trying to push this product, it's just that my sister happens to sell it, so it would be quite convenient for me to use it ).
