patty
I am on the wrong thread, but can any suggest what to do for a 9 yr girl w/anxiety to eating and phobia about eating, touching things, watching tv....? My daughter who has had some mild transcient tics had a sudden onset of major anxiety. She is suddenly afraid to eat for she thinks the food may get her sick. If she drops or touch the food w/her hand, she would not eat it. I was able to distract her by letting her watch tv, so she can eat. And now, it is not quit working and after she eats alittle bit, her stomach hurts and need to go number 2. I took her to Target and she didn't want to touch anything. I tried putting magnesium creme on her to relax her and she refused for she things it will get her sick. The only thing i can think of is that she took a small sip of the chia seed drink that i made for myself few days ago. After she took a sip, she said it increased her heart rate and felt warm. The symptom came as quickly as it went. Two days later, i took her to see her ND & muscle tested her touching the chia seed and she had the same symptom. And that went away 2 hours later. Then 2 days later, she woke up fine, ate breakfast, and by lunch she is a changed person. I see the phobia increasing, now she can't step on the carpet, fear for the tv.... I am so heartbroken seeing her like. i wish it is me than her at least i can deal w/it. She tells me she is scare i don't blame her. If anyone know anything and have any suggestions. Pls help! mythree
I would get her swabbed for strep. My daughter has had strep and we didn't even really know. Except for an increase in anxiety etc. Just to rule that out. I feel for you. You must be so worried about her. I know 9 is an age where kids go through a 'worry' type stage. Worried about being poisoned, or hurt. Worried something will happen to their parents etc. But your daughter's sounds like it has gone past the normal worry type stuff...... Wish I had something helpful to say. I really hope both of you get it all sorted out soon.
dcmom
Patty- I have two girls that have had this issue (eating). It is really scary and awful. The pandas board is loaded with kids that have had eating issues. Have you explored the possibility of pandas. What has helped my kids has been: antibiotics (30 days plus of zithromax), oral steroids, plasmapheresis, ERP therapy and IV solumedrol (steroids). Both no longer (fingers crossed) have the eating issue. If you suspect pandas, I would highly recommend a pandas doc. In the meantime- try advil- see if it takes the edge off. Also- smoothies (add protein powder), meals of small bite food, eat in front of tv, keep small bite healthy snacks out and available all day. Good luck... Chemar
Patty just adding to our PM communication that you should maybe also check into the fact that some types of Salvia (from which chia seeds come) have hallucinogenic properties so am wondering if something there could have triggered too. I do agree, as mentioned in my PM, re checking for an infection trigger asap! keeping you and your kids in my prayers
patty
i would like to try advil, but how does one tried to give advil when she refuses to put anything to her mouth? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am afraid if i force feed her it may make her anxiety worse. Pat
Chemar
Pat CVS has brought out a DYE FREE ibuprofen that does not have the coloring that advil does, and it is also a small tablet, so maybe easier to crush and mix with a spoonful of something she may be willing to eat? Have you ever done any of the strep or lyme etc testing? Where I feel there are many genetic and environmental factors affecting our kids, when these sudden and dramatic flares happen, I do think there is always a possibility of infection also being a trigger.
