Pixie has been on the azith/ammox combo for a week and 2 days now. She's not on ANYTHING else other than probiotics 2 hours from her abx.

A couple of days ago, she mentioned some thigh pain and it increased to the point where she asked us to pull out her trundle bed (she has a loft bed she usually sleeps in, on the top bunk) so she would not have to climb the ladder because her legs hurt so bad last night. She asked AFTER she was up there, so she slept there last night. This morning, she stumbled into my room and started crying that her legs were KILLING her and she barely made it down the ladder.

I snuggled her and promised to pull out her bed for tonight, then went to help my 3 yr old potty. When I left her in my bed, she was cool and no fever that I could feel. When I got back and put my hand on her head again, she had spiked a fever in that 5 minutes I was gone, and I took it at 102.5!!! I gave her her abx, a Sambucol (elderberry extract) tab, and ibuprofen an hour ago and she is still at 101.

No other symptoms but the thigh pain.

I am thinking about giving the activated charcoal and trying to put her in an epsom salt bath. I'm emailing our LLMD too.

She could very well be starting the flu, but it seems more of a herx to me, since the pain is not full body. What do you think?

Thigh pain and fevers can be related to Babesia. I would also assume a herx if nobody else in the household gets sick and symptoms resolve rather quickly. You are doing all the right things. Lots and lots of detox especially at bedtime.

Although, my thigh pain lasted for several weeks. Its very painful. Motrin helped.

Thanks!!!

I was on the fence about the ibuprofen, because I want the fever to stay if it's helping... but obviously if there is pain that she can't tolerate, that means we dose.

Encouraging her to drink, but that is a tough one. She won't drink much even on the best of days- that has been a big symptom too. Going to make a smoothie and sneak in some Vit C powder with lunch.

I just ordered the Colostrum a few days ago. Curious to see if it will help too.

She told me she was hungry, so I'm trying to keep her on fresh foods today as much as possible. She had a slice of bacon for breakfast (I was iffy about it- I know pork is so bad) and a homemade GF granola bar with chocolate (arggh! caffeine!) and some mango, so fresh for the rest of the day if I can. I wish she would do leafy greens. I can't sneak them into smoothies either unless I do a purple one maybe, but I have none in the house right now. Maybe I will throw in some spirulina powder though. Again, just thinking out loud....

Glad SOMETHING is happening. Hope it's not flu and really a herx. Not that I wish for herx, but it means die-off, right?? And that is good!!!!

I am dealing with this thigh (and all-over leg) pain right now, it's extremely painful. I first thought it was some sort of flu as well, but it's been a couple of weeks. Poor kiddo!!! It fluctuates in my thighs and around my knees...to the entire legs. Most painful when in thighs!

Not sure how much I know about this, other than I know the confusion well.

Whenever I get a flu, I get some thigh pain. It happened recently again a couple weeks ago, I had a fever for about 5 days. So, I want to say, you know, it could be the flu. But, unless your daughter is just really melodramatic or whatever the word is, gosh, does anyone think of muscle pain from the flu causing the pain/reaction to the point your daughter is giving.

And so, perhaps, more likely, a herx, more likely related to babesia with the muscle pain and fever.

Of course, then part of me wants to ask, how normal is thigh pain during the flu? I mean, regular people, without lyme or babesia or anything. Part of me is wondering lately if I might have a little babesia, based on minor symptoms and the recent flu and exposure to someone who has babesia. Maybe just paranoid. Anyway, if anyone can set me straight on what a normal flu is supposed to look like, I would certainly appreciate that.

When my son first started his Lyme treatment, after 5 days, he developed a fever and complained that his whole body ached. He actually told me he couldn't go to a friend s birthday party because he felt so bad - totally unlike him. I wasn't sure if it was a herx or the start of a flu. He crawled into bed and just was totally not himself for the whole weekend. The fever and body aches lasted through the weekend and by Monday, he was back to school and feeling like himself. Really weird. I didn't give any Motrin but had him drink fluids and lay low. We never did find out what it was but LLMD says it very well could have been a herx. I hope she feels better soon.

i have never heard of "thigh pain" with flu...not to say it can't happen..

general slow, sluggish, achy (if you want to call it that) malaise.

i think you have been dealing with a ramp or herx each time you get it or treat it..JMHO.

She has been in my bed ALL day. She can be melodramatic about pain, and some of it is sensory perception too, for sure, but this seems real. I'm hoping it passes, or at least fluctuates, so she can have some good periods too. I am not sure how we would get through weeks of pain this severe.

She already has chronic back pain (since about age 2) and has to have a chiro pillow on the back of her desk at school.

I just gave her her mid-day dose of abx and am waiting until I can dose her again with probiotics and glutathione (although apparently oral is not that great anyway....)

Still no other symptoms, so I am not thinking flu. This is not the first time she has had a fever with no symptoms, so even the thigh pain is SOMETHING new.

When I have had the flu, I have had joints ache first- knees, ankles, wrists. I don't think I have ever had thigh pain w/flu.

Last week when I had the severe deep thigh pain it lasted about 3 days. I had a couple hours of it yesterday as well. The rest of the time it fluctuates. I hope she feels better soon!

I wish I had the answer to this question. Son has been on antiobiotics for 3 1/2 months and doing better. Last week we started on Artemesia on Thurs and Fri and Mepron dosed on Fridays only. Wednesday, he started in with a fever, low grade like 99.4 to 100.4. Doctor says to give Tamiflu just in case it is flu. She doesn't want him to backslide or get weak. Lots of water and rest were recommended.

She says the fever should not be a sign of herx. Then again, my son never had a rash either until he started taking meds. Rash is gone and he is slowly getting better.

Still don't know if this is herx or flu...
