I posted a few days ago about specific docs in Northern VA, MD, DC area. didn't get a response, so i thought i would broaden my question a bit.

We want to get a comprehensive workup on dd7---full immune panel, viral panel, other bacterias, yeast, food sensitivities, thyroid, C3D......

what kind of doc would be able to cover most of that? Infec. disease? Immunologist? Rheumatologist??

Thanks!

That sounds like what a DAN (Defeat Autism Now) doctor would do. Our dd is not on the spectrum but we've been working with that approach for the last year and have successfully treated her SPD issues. I highly recommend a DAN in general. Here's a website with a list of doctors in each state http://www.autism.com/pro_danlists_us.asp

When I was searching for a DAN in Indiana I actually found a different site where each DAN had filled out an on-line interview form so you could get a sense of their focus, availability, philosophy etc. I can't find that right now, but perhaps if you searched around a little...

hope this helps,

Dr Beale in dc or in Stevensville md (cheaper in md) does what a Dan doctor does but he also knows infections better than most Dan docs as an ilads trained doctor. He is holistic too. Extremely smart and good at what he does -35 plus years practicing so he has seen it all...especially the worst cases. Also treats cancer and heart disease holistically.

When you say he knows infections better than most....does that mean "lyme"?? I'm afraid of having her pidgeon-holed for Lyme...do they know all other infections too?

Excuse my ignorance - need some advice on the natural stuff as I wish I knew more about it.

Do you use a DAN doctor in place of a regular pediatrician, or as a specialist?

Also, I looked at the DAN list, Malke. Thanks for sharing the link. Has anyone here used any of the DAN docs in NYC/Queens/Long Island/Brooklyn area? I would like a recommendation from someone who has Pandas and used them. Not sure how to pick one from the other. I would like comprehensive testing to rule out other issues (other infections, vit. deficiency, etc.) Also want to see what can be done holistically for our entire family to boost our immunity, make us healthier, etc and prevent the other kids from getting this (I'm nervous about 2 of them already).

Also, I spoke to a chiropractor in my area who I've used for my own neck pain, thinking chiropractic may benefit my Pandas 8 yr old son. He was not familiar with Pandas but I explained the basic theory and basal ganglia connection... he would do nutition/supplement recommendation as well as chiropractic adjustment (and cranial). Should it make a difference if he does not have prior Pandas knowledge?

Thanks!

I have two DAN doctors, one is in Edison, NJ (not far from NYC, I suppose). He has two pandas sons and is very well-versed and knowledgable in pandas. He has also helped my youngest tremendously with "spectrum" issues outside of pandas. He is not on the DAN list, but one of the best. contact info:

Thanks - he seems to have a great reputation by what I've seen on my web search. Are DAN doctors covered by insurance, or is this all out of pocket, and what can I expect to pay for a consult/visits?

Thanks again!

Yep, DAN! Doctors are expensive, and don't take insurance (from my experience) I've had to pay anywhere from $350-$500 an hour!

I just got my insurance Dr.'s to agree to run a full immune panel test (IgG, IgE, IgM, IgA) and that should only cost me $10.

Ange, yes, I would say find a neurosensory practitioner of chiropracting. We really like ours in NYC. She also does cranial sacral which I also think is crucial. For this, I don't think PANDAS knowledge is important, just getting the gist of what's going on and working from there. I can give you the Brooklyn woman's name but she may know someone closer to you.

Also, for comprehensive testing, see Dr. Bouboulis in Connecticut. He knows what questions to ask, he knows what to order. And he takes insurance.
