  1. Just got my report. I'm confused about one thing: When I am COMT -- on all genetic genie COMT, which is what heartfixer.com seems to be going off of but I have ++ COMT RS165722 on Nutrahacker report, am I to consider myself COMT + or -? It seems to make a difference on protocol for CBS +-, when you're COMT + or - on heartfixer. So I'm confused on which I should consider myself.
  2. Ped prescribed the abx based on a positive strep test. I guess I'm looking at it from more wanting to prevent this turning into a full-on PANDAS. Right now, I don't know what the sighing is related to. She's finally physically recovered from the viruses/cold/no other symptom of strep now. So without knowing if the constant deep sighing is an autoimmune response to the strep infection (PANDAS) or not, I don't know if I should start abx with her or just do natural support for her system to get better quicker(i.e. vit c, gse, or silver colloidal, garlic, acv, etc...). Sorry - just stressed at the thought of her having tourettes/tics like I did/do. Am i jumping the gun here about pandas and lyme/babesia? I would love to avoid abx but not if it means i may be exacerbating any underlying snowballing of pandas down the road by not doing it. what is the best course of action at a very early onset/cusp of these conditions?
  3. My dd who is 5 was starting to show some babesia like symptoms - deep sighs/breathing every 1/2 min. She had been complaining of tummy aches for weeks on and off before it started. Since then with the winter bugs, she's had a string of virus/stomach bugs for the last 3 weeks as well. Now she's getting better from the viruses/cold/etc... but her breathing/sighing still remains. Brought her to the ped for the breathing - and she said she's probably taxed from the viruses and will resolve on her own. Asked her to do a strep and it was positive. Does that mean I should treat with abx (possible pandas) or wait to see if the breathing resolves on it's own? Or go with the homeopathic route? Since I have tourettes, I'm a little hyper-sensitive as to how i should handle any symptoms that may crop up in my kids. Coby gurl - what kinds of supplements/herbal/homeopathics did you do with yours?
  4. What bloodwork is done to see if there is co-infection? Is there one that covers a big chunk of diff co-infections out there? I too am trying to figure out if my dd age 5 has an oncoming pandas or not. She's got sighing she started a month ago and then a string of viruses and stomach bugs. Just did a strep test that came out positive as well. Wanted to test her for babesia too with her breathing symptoms. Could she have both?
  5. I've had tourettes since I was about 5. I've managed it on my own mostly, briefly on haldol when i was in high school with no result, and went on to have a good career and family of my own. But I have been holding my breath (literally due to tics and metaphorically) for my two daughters, wondering if they would have tics like I did. My oldest dd, now almost 7, had at age 5 brief episodes of eye blinking that I wondered if strep was involved. Only got a rapid test which came back negative with our naturopath. We gave her Yin Chao for the viruses/cold. We mostly cut out wheat/dairy and upped her magnesium through dietary means (more chickpeas, bananas, nuts, seeds, etc...) We already eat clean organic diet due to my tourettes, so the family has been on a healthy diet since before the kids. We may have done epsom salt, garlic, acv, or gse briefly. But whatever we did or not, it passed and no more eye blinking, to my huge sigh of relief. My youngest dd, who is now 5 (what is it with the age 5?!?)about a month ago started to exhibit these deep sighs, saying she can't get a full breath in. She does it every 1/2 min when we read. She also had a string of viruses and stomach bugs in the last 3 weeks, which has been going around in the whole town this winter. And her sighing has been getting worse. She had been complaining of stomach pains on and off before the sighing started. We had taken her to the ped and he thought we should start first to see if she was constipated. Her tummy is a bit distended even though she is regular. This week, I took her to the ped again for the breathing, and asked for a strep test. I also wanted to get the western blot for babesia, but she wanted to do one at a time. And after doing a 48hr strep test, she is positive. and ped has prescribed abx. My big question is, at this stage when she's better physically from the viruses/bugs, and only having this sighing and periodic stomachaches, is abx the answer? Or am I better off trying to amp her system to ride it out and treat strep naturally w a naturopath? Older dd seems to have ridden it out (although I'm cautious to say it, since my tics turned into tourettes when i was 11/12 with much lifestyle change/stress) I was put on abx when i was young, and it didn't stop my tics from coming back. Strep is all around us. We will always be in contact with it. At an early stage, is abx the answer? At this young age, if they are healthy otherwise, should I try to help her own system to fight it off with natural means? Wondering if abx robs the opportunity for the body to fight it off, if the body is otherwise healthy? Or is there a crucial window of opportunity to use abx with strep before it snowballs? Really not knowing what to do. Would love to know people's experiences and thoughts. Since I've lived my whole life with tourettes, I would love to spare my dd's.
  6. how is h. pylori treated? My mother was recently diagnosed and has had chronic ulcer for as long as i can remember. She was put on abx for it recently, but gave her horrible unbearable pains.
  7. I was doing a search and came across this topic. What you said about swim pool struck me, because when I was on the swim team, that's about when my tics started shortly after. I've read chlorine can wipe out the ions in your gut, causing all sorts of domino effect of isses, some of them being hindering body's ability detox and sulfate. How are things going now?
  8. But the fact it was shown in the stool test raises the question, since I wasn't even at the doctors to be tested for strep/nor did I show any strep symptoms at the time, is the stool test one that maybe should be considered for strep diagnosis?
  9. Ok - I'm fairly intelligent (or I'd like to think so ), but having a hard time reading through the scientific lingo/terminologies. So I'm gathering that the recent HFMD is not an isolated coincidence. It looks like there may be some mercury and/or nutritional def at play? Re: connection to strep - it looks like the quote excerpt is saying that the antibodies for strep should neutralize HFMD (I couldn't open the link). Is that right? Or am I not reading it right? If so, since she got the HFMD, does that mean strep was not in play in her system? Sorry now it's getting a bit overwhelming for me to decipher.
  10. Can Foot and mouth disease trigger PANDAS or OCD? Both my dd's got foot & mouth apparently (sort of diagnosed over the phone from nurse on call). My almost 3 yr old dd1 has been doing this hopping in her seat before starting her one TV show and sort of eye blinking thing, not sure if her eyes are itchy and bothering her from the virus (mine and husband's have been itchy these days too). She just got over a cold a few weeks ago, and shortly after shed showed above symptoms. Now she possibly has foot & mouth thing. She's so miserable - sores all over her mouth! I feel like her body's a wreck right now...
  11. Spring time is interesting - my dd gets these similar wheezing cold symptoms oct/nov and again april.
  12. I find it interesting about the timing. Was thinking we should do a poll of how many people saw first symptoms in Oct/Nov. On my separate post, I wrote that my 2 yr old started blinking and sort of readjusting in her seat repeatedly (when here one TV show comes on). This all started this month. She was getting over a cold when it started as well, so I don't know if the bug season plays into it - i.e. cold/ flu/ allergies/ mold/ strep. Another newbie mom just posted that her 3 yr old is showing eye blinking for the first time this week too. So it got me thinking...
  13. When I looked in Wiki - it said Strep A is Beta Group A, not Alpha Hemolytic. Am I wrong on this? My naturopath at the time didn't comment on this result - she was more addressing the milk/gluten intolerance finding and crypto, as we were trying to figure out why I was doubled over in pain. Don't know if she even knows about the PANDAS connection - even though she is my dr for TS/mercury issues.
  14. Right after I got pregnant w/ my 2nd, I had a horrible doubling over pain - diarrhea/nausea that was persistent for a few weeks. My naturopath did a stool test, and she said I was intolerant to milk & gluten, along with having crypotosporidium. Recently I looked over the test and saw it also said pathogens/bacterial overgrowth detected for alpha hemolytic streptococcus and gamma hemolytic streptococcus. I have tics - had it since 11. Would these strains affect tics?
  15. Looked into Boiron products - Gelsemium doesn't seem like they indicate it for anything to do with cough - but for Stage fright, apprehension and fever. Would you recommend all the ones mentioned below for preventing strep related symptoms? My 2.5 yr old daughter has almost wheezing cough and sore throat cold that comes and goes around sep/oct and again mar/april. Would love to have homeopathic remedy to curb these rather than antibiotics. thanks.
  16. Is it ok to get a multi that has a magnesium oxide and supplement more magnesium on the side, or should I avoid mag oxide altogether (does it make tics worse? or is it that it's just not well absorbed?) Having a hard time finding a multi and childrens multi that doesn't have a mag oxide... because I have phenol sensitivity too.
  17. Thank you for the advice. Is there any drawback to doing antibiotics, even with probiotics? What homeopathy works for strep? And by natural defense against strep, do you mean homeopathic remedy could attack the brain? Sorry my brain is a little muddled right now. I just did DTAP and pneumoccocal for my DD1 once at 6mo and again at 1yr. Very cautious when it comes to vaccines.
  18. I would be interested in the info as well - could you forward as well? Thank you so much.
  19. I'm 35 and have had TS since I was about 11/12. I now have 2 kids (2 and 1) and have been concerned as to whether TS will affect them. I've come to learn through many readings/research that I have methylation/sulfation issues (like many here) and had mercury toxicity. It was towards the end of my detox for mercury that I got pregnant with my dd1 (unexpectedly) and dd2 a 1.5 yrs later (unexpectedly again ). My 2 yr old, who is getting over a cold for the last two weeks, just started this sort of readjusting/hopping in her seat this afternoon. She has been a lot more fidgety lately, and so I have been more concerned about what may be causing it. Just tonight, she complained her throat hurt, and now I'm wondering if she has strep. Knowing strep can trigger symptoms of TS in some people, I want to figure out what best to do. If she does have strep, I don't know if it should be treated homeopathically, with antibiotics, or nothing. I feel like I'm sort of bracing myself and driving myself crazy here, but as all the parents on this forum, I want to do the best for my kids.
  20. Looks like it's been a while since there were posts on this thread. I'm coming to the same conclusion about my TS being related to sulfation. Carolyn, do you have any update to share regarding the progress with Daniel?
  21. GLORIA, THANKS FOR THE SUGGESTION. I WANTED TO DO ELISA/ACT BECAUSE OF THE ARTIFICIAL INGREDIENTS TESTING AS WELL. IS THE COST OF $1500 SEEM IN LINE TO YOU? I DIDN'T REALIZE IT WAS SUCH AN EXPENSIVE TEST. WHAT ABOUT THE PFEIFFER INSTITUTE? WOULD THEY DO THESE KINDS OF TEST AND MORE ALL IN ONE?
  22. PER MEMBERS SUGGESTIONS HERE, I HAVE TRIED TO GET SOME OF THE TESTS DONE THAT WERE MENTIONED HERE IN THE FORUM - BUT I AM RUNNING INTO SOME REAL OBSTACLES. 1) ELISA/ACT AND SPECTRACELL TEST KITS CANNOT BE SENT TO ANYWHERE IN NY STATE, WHERE I LIVE. BECAUSE OF LAWS IN NEW YORK, APPARENTLY LABS THAT DO NOT HAVE OFFICES IN NEW YORK CANNOT WORK WITH NEW YORK DOCTORS. 2) SO I FOUND A DOCTOR IN MY PARENTS' STATE (WHERE I WILL BE VISITING OVER THE HOLIDAYS) WHO IS FAMILILAR WITH THE ELISA AND THE SPECTRACELL LABS, BUT NOW I WILL HAVE TO PAY NEARLY $300 IN INITIAL CONSULT ALL OVER AGAIN AND THEN HE WILL CHARGE AROUND $1500 FOR THE ELISA COMPREHENSIVE TEST. IS THERE ANY WAY I CAN GET AROUND PAYING SO MUCH? OR IS THIS A REASONABLE COST FOR THE ELISA TEST? ARE THERE OTHER LABS THAT I CAN WORK WITH MY DOCTOR IN NY THAT ARE COMPARABLE? THE LABS THEMSELVES ALL SAY THERE IS NO OTHER LAB THAT WOULD BE SIMILAR. THIS SEEMS CRAZY. I'VE DONE WHAT I CAN FROM FOOD ELIMINATION DIET POINT, BUT I WAS REALLY LOOKING FOR SOME OF THESE TESTS TO GIVE ME REAL GUIDANCE. PLEASE HELP.
  23. i'm currently doing a pure food/ elimination diet per my EM doc. and he did suggest to not buy frozen food, because i may react to the processing of the food that i may not be aware of. he did say organic Cascadian frozen vegetables were ok. Needless to say, avoiding proccessed food, under the strictest terms laid out by my doc has not been easy. i mostly have to make everything from scratch or go to organic restaurants and make sure all their imgredients are not processed.
  24. IT SEEMS LIKE THE NEXT THING I SHOULD TRY IS TO ELIMINATE THE SALICYLATES, ALTHOUGH WHEN I INITIALLY ASKED MY DOC AT OUR FIRST VISIT, HE DIDN'T THINK IT WAS NEC/RELEVENT. I HAVE DONE ALL OF THE ABOVE IN TERMS OF ELIMINATING FOOD, EXCEPT SALICYLATES, AND HAVE NOT SEEN THE TICS SUBSIDE. AS I HAVE POSTED BEFORE, MY ANXIETY AMONG OTHER THINGS HAS BEEN HELPED BY IT THOUGH. SINCE I HAVE HAD SOME STOMACH TROUBLES DURING THIS PERIOD, SHOULD I BE TAKING SUPPLEMENTS TOO SUCH AS THE GOOD BACTERIA MENTIONED ABOVE? DOES ANYONE HAVE MORE INFO/RECOMMENDATION ON THIS? I HAVE HAD MILD DIARRHEA FOR ALMOST TWO WEEKS (THOUGH SEEMS TO BE GETTING BETTER), WHICH PUZZLES ME SINCE I AM EATING HEALTHIER THAN EVER BEFORE. MY ONLINE TEST DID STATE I HAVE DETOX OVERLOAD OF 48%. I DON'T KNOW IF IT COULD BE DUE TO FLUSHING TOO MUCH OUT OF MY BODY WITH DOING THE ELIMINATION DIET. WOULD APPRECIATE ANYONE'S THOUGHTS ON THIS. THANKS.
  25. feel like i'm coming out of the haze that was this weird sinus pressure problem... really got me worried, but it seems to be clear now. my strict organic (mostly made from scratch at home) diet is going on week5 and losing weight. To backtrack on some comments/questions from Claire (appreciate your thoughts on this), i have an LCD monitor at home and a CRT at work - doesn't seem to make much diff (had also up'd the refresh rate at work per my husband's sugg, but did not help either). i'm on the computer on and off throughout the whole day. As to the tests, i had gotten the IGE (which my dr, who belongs to the associations mentioned here, says is suff in detecting any delayed reactions as well). i did that test through quest diagnostics for insurance reasons, but should i consider re-doing test with IGG??? Can it be done through Quest, or should i stick with elisaact.com for any particular reason? i haven't done any other tests, like spit yeast or metal. my doc did not think metal toxicity would be an issue - although i don't know how he would know that. doc seems to be really stuck on food allergy being the cause and nothing else, which is frustrating. i feel i have thoroughly explored the food route without seeing results. i would like to know what the next line of action should be, but he doesn't seem to have any besides testing for more food reactions. i'm willing to commit finances for working towards treating my ts, but i certainly would feel better about it if i were seeing more dramatic results from the efforts. i have a good hepa filter at home. but i'm wondering if i should start getting shots for mold - which i have allegies to. also wondering if supplements should be my next plan of action or biofeedback. over-under/methylation thread seems very intriguing too. has anyone also had any experience with bioenergy treatment? in my case, food elimination was an eye-opening experience on how much additives and processed food we put into our bodies, and my body does feel less over-whelmed. but i don't think it's gotten to the root of my ts. but having eliminated stress causing food from my diet, i was able to see more clearly what seems to aggrevate the tics, such as fluctuations in emotions, tasks that require concentration, tv and internet.
