Detoxing Newb looking for primers, tips, advice
philamom replied to bsimon3's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
I don't know a lot about detox, and I'm sure others will chime in with some great advice, but Burber from Nutramedix is a good basic detox supplement. Work your way up to 10-15 drops twice daily mixed in water or juice. Parsley from Nutramedix can be combined with it as well. Good luck. Let me know if you find that playbook -

That's great S&S - I am so happy it is going well! Yay -
I did the tripe draw. The risk of missing bart is not worth doing a single draw. I even had my dog tested to make sure he was not the source of my bart. I was lucky as my Vet did not mark up the cost of the test. They have been testing animals for years at NCSU vet school. This test has only become available for humans since last fall. red- were you off antibiotics when tested? I just read on their order form that they recommend no abx 2 weeks prior to sample. NO I was not on antibiotics when they did the test. It would be a wasted test if you are on antibiotics/ Red. Ok - thank you.

Yes, bummer. After watching my daughter crash off of abx during fall/winter and doing much better since back on, I can't take her off them either.

After 4 years strep titer still high! Treating lyme/bart
philamom replied to lismom's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
My daughter's dnase went from 50 to 600's in September. It slowly worked it's way back down to lower 200's when last tested in June. Her ASO rose from 30's to 90's during the same time and then back down - but ASO in normal level. -

I just saw that Rite Aid now carries Coleman Skin Smart Insect repellent in a pump. I've been ordering the spray from drugstore.com because I couldn't find it elsewhere. I really like this product. It's the same ingredient as the Avon (IR3535), but it's not sticky and it's scent free - at least the spray - haven't tried the pump yet.

Thanks for the replies. Our pharmacist said to discontinue the Florastor while on the Nystatin since she is on other probiotics. Florastor's website says not to take with antifungals. They don't clarify if they mean separated, or not at all. Our LLMD's office said to continue with the Florastor but away from Nystatin. I just hope the office actually asked the doctor about Florastor specifically, and not probiotics in general. I think I will stop the Florastor for now. I'm always concerned about c-diff since my daughter had it in the past, prior to lyme treatment. btw- I should mentioned that my daughter's stool sample is positive for sacchromyces cervasiae- not candida.

Before we saw an LLMD I asked our ped to run the Igenex western Blot and complete panel on my daughter. The Igenex WB IGM was positive, but nothing else. One of her positive bands was 31. I was skeptical so I ran the 31 epitope confirmation, which was negative. I decided to move forward with an LLMD appt anyhow. In our case, the LLMD said he would've never ordered it since she had other significant positive bands as well. In December, my daughter had a positive culture done with Advanced Labs, which gives you a picture of the spirochettes cultured in the blood sample. also- even though my daughter's co-infections were negative with Igenex, her LLMD found Bartonella & RMSF through another lab. -
Should I stop Florastor (Sach Boulardi) altogether while on Nystatin, since it's a good yeast?? I will space other probiotics 2 hours apart. thx
-
Has anyone's child experienced nausea, upset stomach, or vomiting (esp. wondering about this one) as a side effect from Nystatin. LLMD prescribed it for a month (500,000 unit bid) for Dd 11. Also, can you take Nystatin with antibiotics? Just not with probiotics - how long should it be spaced away from probiotics? thx
-
So you need to space probiotics away from Nystatin, even the ones besides Sacc. Boulardi? How far apart? Can u give Nystatin with antibiotics?

I'm still confused on how you know whether yeast is systemic or in the gut, or both. If it shows up in a stool sample you know it's in the gut, but what are the symptoms of systemic yeast? How do you diagnose systemic yeast - a blood test? Or by symptoms? I was given three different answers from three different doctors on how to treat the yeast (saccharomyces cerevisiae) result from my daughter's recent stool sample. One said not to treat since it is most likely from the florastor probiotic. Another suggested 10 days of diflucan, and another a month of Nystatin. thx edit- I decided to go with the Nystatin. I gave Nystatin a while back but after taking one pill my daughter was crying excessively, so I stopped it. Hopefully, a different reaction this time. Can someone remind me if it's ok to give at same time as probiotics? thx again

Probiotic recommendation, please.

Hopeny- a bit more expensive but my fav is Klaire Thera-biotic detoxification support. 50+ billion cfu per capsule (lact. rhamnosus, lact. casei, bifid. bifidum). It must be refrigerated. -

When my daughter is doing well she has no problems with capsules and/or powder packets. We use both Florastor and Culturelle. When she's not doing well we have problems with swallowing. It's a swallowing and taste distortion. I then mix "Culturelle/ Florastor for kids" packets into applesauce and top with cinnamon. That seems to help some. Culturelle now sells a chewable, but if she's having problem with taste I'm not sure how it would help. -
I am not familiar with "Bart Challenge". I would like to hear about it. My diagnosis came through PCR/DNA at Galaxy Diagnostics. It is headed by Edward Breitschwerdt the DVM who has discovered over 20 additional species of bart. http://www.galaxydx.com/web/human-health/ Red Just wanted to mention that I contacted the company about their bartonella test and they are now licensed in all states, except NYS which they hope to complete by the end of the year. Yeah, I would think you need your MA MD to order it. Glad to hear of your lack of herx so far!

Nancy & Vickie- thank you for sharing! I look forward to seeing the entire post. -
My daughter's recent stool sample from Quest came back with Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Does anyone know what this is? Is it a type of Albicans Candida? just googled- possibly from the Florastor?

Place a couple of moistened blades of grass in with it, or a slightly moist cotton ball.

How would one differentiate between systemic yeast and a fungal (yeast) infection in the gut?
-
How long can you be on diflucan before possible liver problems?

Thank you for taking the time to respond:) Do you think I should go back and retest for Bartonella and Babesia thru Igenex? The Western Blot doesn't cover those, correct? TIA.
