Good luck Melanie!!! my son has been on 15mg of Topamax for 1 week today his tics involve his head and rolloing his eyes. 1 week and no side effects noted. We are seeing a decrease every day with the tics. So I hope you have good luck as well. My neurologist told us it takes a good 2 weeks to see where you will be. I have a script to increase to 25mg but will wait another week to see how things are. Keep us posted. Deanna

Hi Rick, thanks so much for the link--they must be doing the same studies at the movement disorder clinic at the University of Maryland thats where my neurologist got her info she herself has never uses it for tics until now. Hi, there is no clinical data to my knowledge--however my neurologist collaborated with person who is in charge of the movement disorder clinic at University of Maryland and they are using it with good results. My neurologist has never used it for tics/tourettes it took her a few weeks to get info, but now is willing to try. Deanna

My son started with vocal tics then replaced it with facial like tics and jerking his head forward--he has really no other issues--some OCD but nothing major--I feel your frustration it has been a long year as well we have tried everything from diet , vitamins etc...... the clonidine was being used because of the social issue of kids teasing him it was not as sedating as the tenex--we did try the patch last summer--he is always playing something and the patch would come off I treid numerous ways to reinforce it but it just did not work for him so back to the oral meds. I have almost weaned the clonidine --I am excited and nervous about the Topamax I am not a big advocate of meds but if they will help with minimal to no side effects why not. He has ? PANDAS but I don't think he is getting proper treatment with that either. Talk to you soon. Deanna

Hello, My son finished a course of Omnicef for strep--his pediatrician gave him Penvk 500mg one time a week --I wonder if I should just not give it if it is not doing any good. I had a hard enough time getting that. Deanna

Can the pen be given once a week ?? I thougth I read where it could be done this way. Any clarification would be appreciated. Deanna

Hi, my son is 9yrs and weighs 69pounds. we tried tenex awhile back and it was more sedating than the clonidine though its supposed to be less sedating. I am starting on 15mg of the Topamax one is because of his size and because I like to have the best response on the lowest dose. I will keep you posted. Deanna

Hi, what is the weekly dose of azith 500mg?? i am startingmy son on 15mg they wanted to start him on 25mg but i am starting at the lowest dose. Deanna

The side effects I talked about are from the clonidine---I have not started the topamax yet. Deanna

Hi , thanks for the post. I am starting at the lowest dose 15mg. ANything has to be better than the clonidine he has been on. Nightmares every night we may get one night out of a week when he doesn't wake. I did pick up the prescription so i hope I get the good results everyone else is having. I will keep you updated. hi, I did not see your post prior to sending you a message. He is on 0.1 mg clonidine 1 and 1/2 tablets at bedtime and 0.1mg one tablet in am. I think I may still have to wean off--the dr. keep on both Topamax and clonidine then wean but I am not sure I am comfortable with that. Thanks so much I hope we have the same success. We have been dealing with nightmares a few times a night for over a year--look forward to those stoppping and getting a entire nights sleep. Deanna

Hi, the neurologis from University of Maryland looked into the use of topamax in the treatment of tics. She collaborated with a Dr. from Johns Hopkins and Georgetown --though there is no clinical data they have seen that is has been effective in treating tics. She wanted to start my son on 25mg however I told her if I start at all I want to start at the lowest dose 15mg. She agreed to that but I am so nervous. He is on Clonidine 0.1 mg 1 and 1/2 pills at bedtime and 0.1mg 1 in the am. I asked her if I should wean the clonidine first and then start the Topamax and she said no to start the Topamax and we would wean in a couple weeks. i just need some input from who ever is currently using the drug. I am so torn on what to do. Deanna

Hi, I also found an increase in tics when starting those vitamins--I tried to hang in there and keep going but for my son it made his tics worse. Hope you have a good day. Deanna

Hi Chemar, thanks for the information. I was thinking of goats milk but his testing came back showing sensitvity to goats milk and cows milk so I will just keep him on the rice milk. Thanks for the help. Deanna
