  1. I found this last night during my nightly research......I smoked from age 22 to 32. I had Gianna when I was 35. My husband never smoked. My mother on the other hand was a heavy smoker for as long as I can rememeber. She was given cigarettes while in labor to help calm her! Can you believe that one. I guess back then it was really different and the effects of smoking were not known as they are today. I wonder now if I had anything to do with my daughter getting these tics. How suicital could one feel! I also wonder why I never had issues with my Mom smoking through pregnancy nor my brother. Has anyone read about this before? here is the article below: Women who smoke during pregnancy appear to have a very strong risk of having a child with severe symptoms of Tourette's syndrome and the risk of having obsessive-compulsive disorder is also increased in these children. Tourette syndrome is a neurological disorder that develops in childhood or adolescence in which patients have involuntary tics involving sudden movements or vocalizations that are rapidly repeated. The symptoms usually occur several times a day, every day or intermittently and are usually mild, but can be severe. The condition is believed be to associated with many genetic and environmental factors, Dr. Carol A. Mathews and her associates note. While few studies have examined the role of environmental factors, there are suggestions that incidents before or just after birth, as well as the mother's prenatal habits, effect the development of the disorder, its severity, and the risk of having another neurologic condition. Mathews, from the University of California in San Francisco, and her team hypothesized that reductions in oxygen in the womb, a known effect of smoking, could increase the risk of developing Tourette's syndrome in those with a genetic susceptibility. To test this theory, the research team evaluated members of three groups of people with the syndrome, which included 53 individuals from Costa Rica, 99 individuals of Ashkenazi Jewish descent, and 28 who had a sibling with the syndrome. The subjects' ages ranged from 3 to 59 years, but 60 percent were younger than 14 when they were interviewed. The investigators report in the American Journal of Psychiatry that the average tic severity score was 38.6 out of a possible 50. The presence of obsessive-compulsive disorder and self-injurious behavior was strongly associated with tic severity. Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder was also associated with tics, but the association was not as strong as were the other two disorders. More than half of the subjects reported at least one adverse event that occurred before or shortly after birth, but these were generally similar to that in the general population. Parental factors also did not seem to affect risk. However, after accounting for the effect of patient group, gender and family history, maternal smoking was significantly associated with total tick and vocal tic severity. In fact, statistical calculations showed that maternal smoking accounted for 42 percent of the variance in tic severity. Maternal smoking was also associated with an eight-fold increased risk of obsessive-compulsive disorder. The researchers suggest that the association between smoking and tic severity and obsessive-compulsive disorder is evidence that chronic oxygen deprivation during fetal development increases the risk. However, they cannot rule out the possibility that maternal smoking is an indicator of another factor associated with the syndrome that has yet to be uncovered, such as socioeconomic status or attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder in one or both of the parents.
  2. I have been wanting to wait to update. I would hate to give any false hope so please give it another week before jumping on. My daughter is I would say 99.8% tic free at the present time. I am dreading the pool party but we are indeed going this weekend. This is her first whole week of the recommended dose. She seems to have a more pleasant attitude but can this be because of the intrakid?? I am just not sure. As I stated I ordered the intramax for myself and began taking it yesterday. If I notice a difference within myself (in which I am supposed to) then I would feel comfortable in stating that this vitamin is a little miracle for us. I stopped all other supplements except for the epsom salt baths we do every other night. And there is a hepa filter in her room. I am hoping that things stay like they are. Could it be another wax and wane? Not sure I ever really understood that anyhow. I will continue to update every week. Wish me luck!!!!
  3. Ours is leaving next month. Reclocating to Miami so I am not sure what I am going to do. Its hard to find one that you trust etc... I guess my search will begin soon. Maybe I will head towards you Chemar...
  4. Don't stop taking him! It really does help ALOT!!! If you search on the net you can find many articles etc, regarding this. Sorry I don't have time to get into our experience further but my computer line is STILL having troubles so I am on a small lap top and it takes me 20 minutes to type a sentence... Stay with it! His improvement will last!
  5. Sorry for my multiple posts tonight...internet connection was down for a bit so I am back on full blast tonight! I was giving my daughter a shower tonight and again she said ouch when I held the shower head over her. She keeps saying the water feels like someone is pricking her. Is there a connection with this at all. These days I just never know....
  6. Please explain the difference between the two...Thanks
  7. Anyone here from Orlando? Woul be great to have friends here to get together with. We are in the East.... Keeping my fingers crossed......
  8. My daughter is doing well. Still holding strong on our new regimen! Just a few foot stomps and nothing more thus so far. I seem to always hate to wake up in the morning in fear of course that it will come back on strong. I know this road to well and you would think that I would expect to see an increase after a decrease but I still have a hard time with it. I am writing for advice on Pools. I did alot of reading through past posts and its become obvious to me that chlorine is possibly a BIG tic trigger. We live in Florida and its almost time to swim....just got the first invite for a pool party next weekend. I am scared to say the least but I REFUSE to take this away from my daughter. I feel sometimes that I expect her to live in a bubble. With all the eating requirements and the possible triggers for tics....well......what else is there???? At any rate she will absoulely attend this party and she will also be allowed to swim. I want her to have a good time and laugh and swim...just like all the other kids. I can't change someone else's pool but I can change our pool. This is where I need help.... We have a salt chlorinator for our pool. I am not sure what this even means but I heard about the inozier and researched that as well. Let me just say I am completely CONFUSED......................... please help....what does this all mean and what can I do to make our pool water less of a threat to her condition??? I would hate to see her go into another explosion of tics after we have done so well. I do plan and know of the epsom salt bath which is recommended right after the pool. I will and can do this at home but at someone else's house it may be impossible to do it immediately following. Not to mention that I am not sure if I could always do it immediatly following her swims at home either. She usually hits the pool everyday starting in April and I just cannot take this away from her. I have already placed the chlorine filter on her shower head....I didn't have the water checked (we do not drink it) but I just installed it on there anyhow to be safe. It was cheap at lowes and worth its weight in gold as far as the worries. Longer than I wanted here...sorry....just need help understanding the system I have for our pool and if an iniozer is needed and will work with our current pool system. Also sorry for the mispelled words.....type ahead of myself and cannot get the spell checker to work on here. Thanks in advance for everyones advice and help
  9. Hello, I am not supplementing with any thing else at all. It was suggested not to do that with these. so I am giving it a go with just the liquid vitamin. So far so good! I am hoping so badly that this continues to benefit her. The place I found them is www.cleanSurroundings.com They also have FREE priority shipping as well! I only paid 59.50 and most other places I came across were 80 just for the vitamins! not including shipping. If these continue to make improvements with us then I will follow the instructions on druckerlabs site and get them at a discounted rate. Have to look more into that yet. I really hope the best to you and PLEASE PLEASE if you do get the vitamins keep me posted okay. Especially after the first and second week! have a nice night
  10. Our neuro doc suggested 1/2 pill of melatolin for this. Worked great for her and she fell right asleep everynight. Its all natural as well. I myself have been taking it for many years. Also saw a decrease in the OCD. Goodluck and I hope you find whatever works best for him.....
  11. Soory I forgot...YES they are poratble and are just plug ins. Not sure about the others....
  12. Hello Nan I am not sure if you remember a post I did a bit back. I noticed quite a significant decrease im my daughters tics when I went out and bought a hepa filter. The trouble was that she was aslo prescribed with nasonex at the same time I put the filter in her room so....I wasn't sure which one really helped! I always seem to do TOO many things at once but I am getting better. Anyhow I have kept it in her room ever since and always have her bedroom door shut unless we have a warm vaporizer going in there as well. It was not expensive, I picked it up at Target. Walmart probably has the same selection. I did a little bit of research before I did make the purchase and settled on the brand called Holmes. It has a washable pre-filter and then you have to replace the hepa one a couple times a year. To mention a few reasons why I chose this one...It has a quiet setting for night. You can barely hear it. I turn it up for during the day. Also it has the Ionizer built in. It works for rooms up to size 10' x 12'. 3 cleaning levels and it removes the following: Ragweed Pollen, grass pollen, tree pollen, household dust, dust mite debris, mold spores, pet dander and smoke. It cost about 50 bucks. Here is a link to one I found on the internet that is the exact one I have. http://www.jardenstore.com/product.aspx?bi...30&cid=1701 I am waiting to get some extra cash together and plan on buying them for a few more rooms. LOVE IT!!! Hope this helps! have a great night
  13. Nan, I would say she was doing great as far as tics as well. But let me update again on Saturday after she has had the recommended dosing all week. You take it for 6 days and on the 7th day you do not take it. Them after the first two weeks you go down to a maintenanace dosage. Still only 6 days though. She was so happy today and calm today I thought she might have a fever! LOL Hopefully this is just not a coincidence and things will continue to stay and get even better! Please pray for me! I will post again on Saturday. Also if you ever decide to order let me know first. I found a place with free prioirty shipping and $20 less than all the sites I found that sell it. Thanks and have a great night Nan! Sincerly, Wendy
  14. Please take a look at this article. Its interesting and all so familiar in what I have read and been taught from all of you here on these boards. Dr. Richard Drucker is the one who formulated the intrakid. My daughter has been on only 1/2 the required dose and the difference in her mood is quite noticeable. She starts on the recommended dose tomorrow so I will update again on Friday. Only saw a few minor tics today. HUGE IMPROVEMENT in our eyes!! I even ordered the intramax for myself tonight! I want to see how I feel. Also just a note for everyone...I am not affliated nor do I work for or sell intrakid or intramax. i am just extremely excited about the results we have seen in such a short time and at only 1/2 the recommended dosing. please take a look at the article from "to your health magazine"...Jan issue http://www.cleansurroundings.com/nutrition...rence-i-35.html
  15. Hello, Sorry I cannot offer any advice. (not familiar with any of the results) i am though writing to ask how they preformed the tests that got you the results to begin with. What did they do?? Thanks in advance
  16. Nan, Yes I did receive them. We have been on them since Monday. i am only giving her 1/2 the dose recommended right now because I just feel I want to start slowly with something new. We have stopped everything else including the natural calm. I feel her mood is better. She seems to be so easy going like before this all started. her tics are mild as well. I think though it is too soon to see a benefit from the intrakid??? Not sure but I will continue to update. I will start her on her full dose on Monday. Will update by next Friday. Hope you are good and all is well. Sincerly, Wendy
  17. I am not sure if I am allowed to do this on here so if I am not...I apologize.... My daughter refuses Bonnnies Vitamins no matter what we tried and we tried everything! Everyone of your suggestions as well. We went through about 8 tablets trying and I gave up. If anyone would like to try these I would love to sell them at half price to someone. On recommendation from Bonnie I ordered and received 1 tall can of the ts-PLUS CONTROL and 2 regualr sized jars of the ts-PLUS EPA/DHA. It ran us $117.69 this included the shipping costs of $13.90. I will sell and ship out for 1/2 that amount. It was a 2 month supply or something like that. Maybe three months, I am not sure but whatever I got was what Bonnie suggested. I hate to see these just sit in the cupboard when I know that maybe someone else can use them. I heard some many positive things about them that I am truly disapointed we could not even see the difference that could have made. Please let me know if anyone is interested.
  18. Hello again, For all those who asked, here is a link to all the ingredients in intrakid http://www.druckerlabs.com/documents/intra...10-14-2006a.pdf My order has already been sent out so I will let everyone know how we do on this. I am going to stop ALL and anything else we are taking and just go with this alone. My daughter refuses to take Bonnies Vitamins. I tried EVERYTHING! This is a liquid like Natural calm and she likes that so I am sure or at least am HOPING she will take this. Wish me luck!!!! I am praying that this will be a miracle if even just a small one!
  19. Okay I know you are all probably SICK and tired of me asking about the good ole multi-vitamin search!!! I oringinally ordered one called vitasauras but cancelled those and found an impressive one to say the least! All natural and organic. Recommended by a neurologist (not ours of course!) Just placed my order Intrakid Here is the link: http://www.cleansurroundings.com/httpwwwcl...4html-c-34.html
  20. mom2a- can you tell me how you tested for the dairy issues. My daughter was on Soy formula as a baby and never drank cow milk. Still does not. She really doesn't like eggs. She does though have a yogurt or two a day. But she has always done this. she also does not have a big variety of foods that likes or will eat. Her diet in other words is very limited as it is.
  21. Chemar...thanks so much for your reply. What supplements help with OCD? We started the magnesium tonight...Well the natural calm anyhow. I took it with her and so she drank it right down. We had a little tea party. Do you feel that magnesium can help with the OCD or no? Thanks again I really appreciate all the reposnses i have got. Just when I am MAYBE starting to understand one thing...another one comes along. I guess i will be researching and visiting these boards for many years to come. Thank You again
  22. dkresmith...can you read my above reply to ad ccl and let me know what you think? thanks so much for your reply. I truly do appreciate it.
  23. ad ccl- My daughter tested positive for strep on Feb 13th. She was prescribed amoxocillin and after 7 days on it she broke out in little red dots or spots. I brought her in and they said it was a reaction to the amoxicillin. They then put her on zithromax for 3 days. So she was on antibiotic for a total of 11 days. she stopped them on Feb 25, just nine days ago. She also was tested for pandas last August. The doctor said the results were normal. I called to get a copy of them (someone on the board suggested this) but still have not received them. What do you think???? Thanks so much for your reply! This gets harder and harder to deal with sometimes. I wish it all would go away for everyone.
  24. michele, I am working with diet now and started natureal calm. Could you possibly let me know what you find about abilfy? I will research as well. Thanks so much for your reply. Whenever we seem to get one thing under control and start breathing again...another thing pops up! This whole thing is truly overwhelming me!
  25. Caryn, Thank you so much for your reply. This really scared me to death! Can you tell me about Igh and what it will show and also how it is preformed (Also which doctor does it) A Dan?? Thank you again so much for your reply
