  1. Does xylitol increase tics? It's only a sugar isn't it? I'm wanting to get my son some gum to chew, but it has xylitol in it.
  2. Janey, How much magnesium taurate do you give your child? My son gets 250 mill. a day right now. Maybe I should increase it.
  3. What do you use for probiotics if your child can't have milk or casien? Does the whole family follow the same diet? I guess that would make it easier! What exactly is Nystain? An antibiotic? Can I just use a probiotic to help if there's yeast overgrowh? Sorry about all the questions. About to get heavy metals testing, followed by candida testing. How did you know your children had yeast overgrowth? My son got a blood test that said he had no overgrowth. Thanks for answering all my questions.
  4. My son has nose twitches, mouth twitches, etc. What has helped your child with facial grimaces?
  5. CSP: Have you tried magnesium taurate for your son's vocal tic? It really seemed to help my son with his throat clearing. It didn't seem to take long to start working either. Now I just hear it a little when he eats something he's not supposed to.Michelle: This sounds like a test I wouldn't mind getting done. Does it have a name? What should I ask his pediatrician to do? Also, I noted the Gaba calm has L-tyrosine which is a precursor to dopamine? Does anybody know about this? Thanks everyone.
  6. Does 5-HTP cause an increase with tics? Does it increase the dopamine levels or decrease them? Wanted to give my son some to help him sleep but didn't want it affecting his tics negatively. How much do I give to make it effective? Thanks.
  7. My son is sensitive somewhat to both light and sound. His zinc levels tested okay, so I don't know if I should get him tested for pyroluria. What have others done to help their child who is sensitive to lights and sounds? Thanks.
  8. Is there a test to take to see if you are deficient in enzymes? If there is please let me know. I'd be curious to see if my son is deficient because I don't think he digests his food well. Thanks.
  9. I was just curious about how you found an acupuncturist to show you how to administer self-treatment. My son's started blinking his eyes more than usual, aggravated by t.v. or video games, but not always. Could you describe what it involves, and who to go to? Thanks
  10. Hi Calicat, I was looking at the Kid's Calm and it mentions "natural orange flavor" in the ingredients. Do you know if this is okay when avoiding artificial stuff. I know it says natural, but sometimes it's bad for tics. Also I looked at the Kiddie Cal and on the information it says it has no magnesium, because it can upset children's tummies, but in the ingredients it lists magnesium stearate. I wondered if you had noticed that. Anyway, thanks for all the help. Do you think there's a trigger for your daughter's eye blinking?
  11. Mag taurate seems to work well for his throat clearing tic. As far as I know there's been no negative side effects. He's started eye blinking a lot the last couple days. I think it's from too much computer/t.v. time. He's been taking the mag taurate for about four months now. What type of calcium should we use? I think there's different kinds.
  12. I've heard magnesium and calcium could help my son's restless legs, expecially at night. Does anybody know the ratio of magnesium to calcium and what types to take? He is ten years old. He already takes magnesium taurate, about 350 mill. a day. Thanks.
  13. My son started urinating frequently at around age 8. On his 8th birthday, he had a strong reaction to posion ivy and we rushed to the doctor who gave him a steroid shot because he was having trouble breathing, had hives, his lip swelled up huge...That seemed to be the start of it all. As far as I know he's never had strep. He started the urinating during the hurricane evacuation. He had to keep peeing in a plastic bottle because we couldn't stop of course. Few weeks, months, its all a blur but he started rolling his eyes. The urinating has gone on for two and a half years, but it seemed to be a little better the past four months or so, until recently. Not much has changed, he did have a cold recently, nothing major. Wouldn't it be something if it was Pandas all this time? I give mag taurate. I haven't given calcium. I give around 350 mag taurate a day. He had a blood test for yeast, which was negative. I've heard it's not neccesarily accurate, so I'm saving to do a urine test for yeast. His B vitamins tested okay, iron okay, some kind of strep, something, in same blood test, also was negative. I've asked them to send me a copy of his paperwork, but they've yet to do it. Sometimes, he hardly has any urine when he goes, but he feels the need to go. Guess, I'm back at square one, and need to get these tests done. I did have a throat swap, culture?, done recently, for strep, but they never got back to me with the results. Felt so foolish asking for a strep test when all he had was a runny nose, and not much else. We've never got ourselves tested. Both my husband and I had a bad cold recently, but I don't think to ask for a strep test. Thanks everyone. Sorry so long.
  14. Can someone tell me if the blood test for Candida is the most accurate test for Candida albicans? Or is there a stool test that we should get?
  15. Can someone tell me if the blood test for Candida is the most accurate test for Candida albicans? Or is there a stool test that we should get?
  16. My son has small muscle twitches I can feel when he's asleep or sitting beside me. He also has to move his legs while in bed at night, trying to get to sleep. I always thought this was a common part of tics/tourettes, but I've heard few mention it here on the forum. Is this common with others besides my son? He also has to urinate alot when sitting for long periods, or at night while trying to get to sleep. We thought the frequent urination was another tic. A lot of times he's actually urinating, sometimes just a few drops come out. Sometimes, even though he's peed within the last twenty minutes, I'll tell him, "You've just peed" and he'll say, "but it hurts." He got a full battery of tests and his urinary is fine. Also blood test said he didn't have diabetes. Just wondering if anyone else experiences these things and knows what to do about them.
  17. My son also has small jerks or really twitches while sleeping along with restless legs while trying to settle down at night. I don't know what to do for it. I felt we also saw a small increase in tics the day after giving him an epsom salt bath for the first time! He also has to get up and urinate frequently at night, and whenever he sits for any length of time. I have no idea why. It's frustrating!
  18. Sorry if this has been answered. What is the best test for Candida, and Heavy Metals? Thanks all.
  19. What is the name of the Health Food store you get "Follow Your Heart" from? Does it really taste good? It would be wonderful if my son enjoys it, on pizza especially and tacos. Thanks
  20. I'm with you Faith. I've noticed the same thing with other kids stretching their mouths in funny ways, blinking a lot, etc. A lot of kids do this. Our son has had tics for a year also, and up to that year milestone I had to quit agonizing over that there was three months left, and one month left, and get busy trying to minimize the tics with diet, etc. I won't even say tourettes, I'll just say he has some tics right now. I have a nephew who had vocal and motor tics and as an adult all he does now is occasionally squint his eyes shut tight occasionally. It's difficult, but we have to take this one day at a time, to enjoy our lives and help our kids get a good emotional foundation.
  21. Carolyn, is it casein free too? Where can you buy it? Thanks.
  22. We found Organic Smart Balance, a whipped buttery spread, and, Earth Balance Natural Buttery Sticks at HEB plus, which do wonderfully in baked goodies. The only thing some might have to avoid is if they have a corn sensitivity. They have no casein, no dairy, no guten, no artificial flavor or color.
  23. What have parents used on this forum with success, for ADHD with tics? I'm giving magnesium taurate, but my son has trouble concentrating and sitting still, talks excessively. We're already watching his diet closely. What kind of supplements/amino acids have you used with success? Of course I'm not going to run out and give him all these things at once, but I'd like to know where to start looking and what to ask the pediatrician for. I live in Texas. Does anyone know a good naturopathic doctor/Dan doctor in Texas, that would work with us on this supplementation, we could trust? Someone who would start out slow and not give him twenty million supplements just because they can? Someone who will tailor the supplements to his needs. Thanks.
  24. Michele: You said, "We have taken digestive enzymes by Houston. It is AFP Protease. I stopped it now because we are trying Nystatin currently. I think the nystatin probably is better because it is stronger." Nystatin is different than enzymes, right? It's an antifungal? Does it do the same thing as enzymes? Also, my son has had blood drawn checking "antigliadin" and "candida" both of which were negative. I'm not sure what the Celiac Screen is or the Gluten Intolerence Test. I do know my son is sensitive to wheat, it was a 1, and also to Quinoa, a 2, which we have eliminated from his diet. He also has the throat clearing after eating, even after eating something he's supposed to be able to have, sensitivity to sound, and t.v. and computer causes a temporary eye blink. His zinc levels, magnesium, B vitamin levels all tested normal. And of course he has the constipation. He used to have teeth grinding at night, when he was about five, he's 10 now and doesn't. I guess I'm confused about where do I go from here? Get some better tests? He also has frequent urination for the last two years. Someone said that could be a sign of Candida. Any suggestions? Thanks to everyone. Oh, and he has trouble sitting still and focusing and he acts silly sometimes.
  25. Has anyone's child here had a reduction in tics because of taking digestive enzymes. Or an increase in tics? I'd like to give my son some but am not sure of the reaction/s he might have. Is there a test he can take to find out if his digestive enzymes are working properly? One doc said his vitamins and minerals were not getting to where they need to go. He has small, too hard poops. It's just a hunch of mine, but I'd like to get him tested to see for sure.
