In A/SERT they use a cold laser instead of the acupuncture. When I questioned that he said he could do it either way but the cold laser has better results. I picked up the l-glutamine today and I decided to hold of on the homeopathic antimony. I guess I am just not ready to go there yet. When he tested for the allergens it was very interesting because he had two cups full of common allergens, one was full of environmental and the other foods. When he held the foods one his tics started going off like crazy. Previous to this he did not have any the whole time since I picked him up from school that day until that moment. I would guess it was about 1 1/2 hours with of time. His tics then lasted about 5 - 10 minutes after he held that cup. Anyway when I asked him what was it he was holding he said he does not even look until after they test positive for it. Then he looked and told me it was the common food allergens. From there he individually tested for each food allergen and came up with corn, wheat/gluten, and sugar. We initially found out he was allergic to corn from a regular medical allergist. I did tell him keegs was allergic to corn when I went in for a consultation a week ago.

My son has his appt. with the chiro who does A/sert today. I mentioned in previous posts it is much like NAET. Well he concluded Keegs is allergic to corn, which I already knew, sugar and wheat/gluten. He also concluded that he is allergic to cell phones and prescribed a magnet. Yeah I know it sounds really hokey. He found that he also had a reaction to antimony. So for that he prescribed a homeopathic remedy T Antimony. Has anyone here treated for antimony? I did a search and found general references for it but did not find where anyone actually was treated for it. I am having a really hard time with this whole homeopathic remedy deal, like treats like. Well that would mean that T antimony is poison since antimony is. I hope I am wrong with this assumption but that is just freaking me out! The only other thing he suggested is L glutamine plus. Which seems to be okay. I sounds like others here have had success with that. I did not buy any of the products as I wanted to research them first.

Is moving an option? I would bet that the house had a lot of previous water damage and lots of mold. The only other thing I would suggest is a dehumidifier. Good luck Pam

Any advice for calming my son at bedtime?
Pamela Kay replied to tlkinser's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
We ordered our kids calm online because our health food store did not have any. I did ask them about it though and she said they would order it which they did because now they have some too. So maybe if yours does not just ask them. -
Frazer Hang in there things will get better. I also wanted to add that I have three older brothers. Two of which my parents totally baby. One is an alcoholic and the other is a high functioning autistic. They still have to grow up at the ages of 38 and 44. Maybe your parents are not spoiling you as much as your brother but take a step back. Prove to them that you can make it without there help. I think you can. You found a great board with lots of support here. Sure it will be harder to acquire new things but this will make you stronger in the future. Pam

Any advice for calming my son at bedtime?
Pamela Kay replied to tlkinser's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
I have to say that I resorted to threatening my boys as they would not calm down at bed time. I told them they could stay up later and read but they had to read and not play. If they don't then I will turn out the lights and call it bed time. So far it has worked pretty well. They think they get a later bed time but really they usually just read until about the same time it would take to fall asleep anyway. -
I noticed for my son a huge trigger was corn, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, dextrose, or pretty much corn anything. Also recently it seems environmental allergies play a roll. The pizza he eats probably contains corn products in some shape or form. Have you tried epsom salt baths?

I asked the chiropractor here who does A/SERT and he said that they recommend that you get treated in a certain order first as well. There is better results that way. He said that we could just choose which ones we wanted to get treated for though. He told me if we got treated for them all it would be 23 visits at about $45 each. That would be $1035! Totally worth it if it works but I too am skeptical. The only reason I am willing to try it is because on this and other allergy message boards I have read where it has helped. DS is getting tested next Thursday then he is going to give me his recommendation. Testing with this chiropractor by the way is $120.

I had a consultation appointment with a Chiropractor who practices A/SERT which is a variation of NAET today. It seemed promising while hokey at the same time. Anyway he said that they use a cold laser along with it. Well when I asked him where they used it he said the brain area. That right there is really hard for me to swallow. The laser is FDA approved but that does not mean as much to me as it should. When I asked him about the differences between A/SERT and NAET he told me they are about the same and many people who use NAET also use the cold laser. Has anyone here who had NAET had their doctor use the cold laser as well? He also said he could also do it without the cold laser but success is better with. I did make an appointment with him for my son though. According to him he is the only one in Northern Michigan who does this sort of thing. The first appointment is just muscle testing to see what he is allergic to and to see if he has any heavy metals.

Have you guys check Toms of Maine toothpaste? There is a silly strawberry one that is free of flouride. I wonder if they would be safe?

As a baby my son ALWAYS had a runny nose. I had to suction it out numerous times a day. Until we eliminated corn from his diet he also had a cough that sounded much like an asthma cough. When we questioned the doctors about this we got the famous "that is normal for some kids" response. He rarely gets that cough now. We had him tested last year for allergies and he was officially allergic to corn, dust mites, cats, dogs and grass. He was not tested for weeds or any other foods. His allergist prescribed a nose spray which we tried but that contained corn products. Then he prescribed something else and that did too. So basically I lost most confidence in his allergist. At this point I have been giving him dye free benedryl. Now that I think he is twitching due to environmental allergies I wonder if I should go ahead and try the prescription again when I see them acting up.

Poll! Bedwetting and age of onset
Pamela Kay replied to Calicat's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
1. 7 years old now 2. Yes he wets the bed still 3. He started his tics late five years and early six. -
I am still pretty new to all this but I think I finally figured out why my son has had a serious increase in tics lately. The other night I decided to check the pollen counts in our area, Weather.com. About the time that weed pollen went from low to moderate or high his tics started to flare up. Yesterday was the first day in about a month he was not super emotional and ticcing like crazy. I checked the counts again and they were down to moderate. Today his tics were back again like crazy but we were outside in the woods at a state park. Our foods have not changed in the last few weeks so that is the only thing I can think of. Last year I remember him having tics right around when school started too. Then I thought it was all corn related but now wonder. His tics did go away completely last year and most of this year until recently. All we gave him before was a multi and fish oil. I have recently added kids calm though and enzymes.

I am sorry I can not offer you advice regarding PANDAS but I did want to offer you some support. If your sons doctor does not believe in PANDAS maybe it is time to find a new one. Did you see the sticky listed at the top of forum "Finding medical Help"? It is hard finding a good doctor who understands, I am still in search of one for my son too. I honestly hope and pray you find the answers for your son. I am sure you will get more responses soon. Pam

While looking for a doctor that does NAET in our area, I found one that does A/SERT. I would love to get feedback before possibly seeing him. I took this from his website: Allergy / Sensitivity Elimination and Reprogramming Technique (A/SERT) What is A/SERT? A/SERT (Allergy / Sensitivity Elimination and Reprogramming Technique) is a revolutionary treatment system based on the principles of Chiropractic, Acupuncture, and Applied Kinesiology (Muscle Response Testing). This technique was developed by Dr. John Brimhall, and is a modification of NAET (Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Technique) developed by Dr. Devi Nambudripad. This treatment, in conjunction with the 10-Step Protocol, can bring about dramatic improvement -at times even total elimination- for all types of allergies. It is simple, non-invasive and extremely effective. It is currently practiced by hundreds of health practitioners, including MD’s, nurses, acupuncturists, chiropractors, dentists, and, to some extent, allergy sufferers themselves. How does A/SERT work? A/SERT is based on the recognition that all things, animate and inanimate, in our universe have their own specific electromagnetic fields due to their atomic and molecular makeup, and that these fields affect each other. This is true for our bodies, rocks, pollen, mold, peanut butter, a flower, water, in short, everything. This electromagnetic energy is associated with meridians (energy pathways) in acupuncture, chi in Chinese Medicine, and can be demonstrated with Kirlian photography. Nuclear physicists can determine the type of atom by its electromagnetic frequency. According to Dr. Devi Nambudripad, this is what happens: Your energy system and brain interpret a particular substance (a diamond ring, a whole wheat bagel, a peanut, hot water, sun light) as potentially harmful to your body, and your body reacts. For other people this same item is totally harmless. Your energy pathways freeze up as a way of defending the body against this unsuitable substance. This in turn blocks your energy meridians and, if this condition continues, the overall functioning of your body suffers. A/SERT Diagnostics - Our fingertips are very sensitive to the electromagnetic energy of substances with which we come into contact. By placing a sample of a suspected allergen into a person’s hand, and using Applied Kinesiology muscle testing, the A/SERT practitioner can determine whether or not a person reacts “weak” or “strong” to the substance, i.e., whether this substance causes an energy blockage in the patient’s body. Such blockages can cause a wide variety of symptoms, from sneezing and coughing to chronic diseases such as asthma. A/SERT Desensitization - The A/SERT practitioner stimulates key points along the patient’s spine while the patient is holding the allergen. The doctor stimulates certain meridian points, specific organs and lobes of the brain with a Low Level Laser. A chemical change takes place in the autonomic nervous system, neutralizing any allergic reaction to the substance. A/SERT reprograms the brain and the nervous system, and eliminates your body’s conditioned response to the 'allergen'. Environmental medicine has been dealing with hidden allergies for several decades. You try to avoid the allergenic substance in your life, you go on a rotation diet, and maybe you can manage. But with A/SERT you can continue to have contact with the very substance that made you sick.

Are you guys getting bontech from the website or do they sell it at a natural food stores? Also has anyone tried Greens Today Children's Formula. I found it at our local health food store but am really scared to try new things. http://www.greenstoday.com/products/children.asp I really want to get this tic more under control before school starts.

You will be doing the encouraging one day. I have found that this tic/allergy thing has made me stronger. I think you will too. Pam

I truly was where you are a couple years ago. "Why is god punishing my child" I too would cry all the time. Through all this I have learned so much. Since I discovered my son is allergic to corn it really was the key to opening up a lot more about him. His school work has become much better, his attitude too. He would cry all the time before. Something is backsliding now for us too. I don't know exactly what this new trigger is but I have a couple ideas. I know it is hard but try to stay calm. Wait and see if after the surgery he improves. It really could be this stress that is causing his new tics. You are heading in the right direction just by reading this board!

I am interested in NAET for my sons allergies. First, though, I wanted to know what real peoples experiences are. I read the last post about them and it sounds hopeful. How many of our kids have had treatments and what were the results? I want to know good and bad. I am afraid to try them and have his tics get worse.
-
How do you find a NAET doctor if they are not listed on the website? I am having a hard time finding alternative doctors in our area.
-
I am not exactly sure of the test results but I would still keep the milk away. From what I understand you can have a true allergy or a intolerance to foods. Maybe your son just has an intolerance.

update on daughter and other thoughts whirling in mind
Pamela Kay replied to Calicat's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Sorry different Pam. My husband actually does not take anything for his tics as they are not usually bothersome. Lately his eye has been twitching like crazy though and that was bothering him. -

You know I think that my sons new bout of tics is due to environmental allergies. I remember last year it happening around the same time. I have looked into everything else and this really makes sense. Plus my husband has been displaying tics as well. I just wish I knew what the environmental allergy was. I too would be interested to see a tic onset and bedwetting pole. This is all linked I am sure. Pam -
Thanks everyone. That is kind of what I thought too but I wanted to look at all the options. I will continue to monitor his "bathroom activity" then may try the mineral oil if needed. Thanks for the input Pam

I am becoming aware of the fact that my son may be constipated. I was wondering if anyone has given their child a colon cleanse or themselves for that matter. If so have you seen an improvement with tics. Also if you have experience with this what type/brand did you use. I am very leary about giving one to my son. Thanks for any input. Pam
