Michelle, The DAN Dr. your son is getting help from- Dr. Demio: Did you have to initially go to his office or has everything been phone consult? What about the tests? Could one do phone consults and tests from their town or do you have to travel? And could I ask on the cost of all the tests? If you could tell me a total of it all and if insurance covered any of it?

As far as Pyloria, anyone who may know, what do the Dr. say about treatment? Is it B6 and zinc? and what are the amounts?

Is there harm in too much probiotic? Is there such a thing?

ITSME, Could you tell me the brand of probiotic and also if your son is taking it and how much? Does he take the same things you do such as antioxidants?

As far as the Benedryl goes, he was having bad allergies. I started him on Benedryl nightly to sleep for a couple of days. After day 2 I noticed hard blinks in the morning. Didnt know why. By day 4-hard blinks-tic like throughout day, but only in bright light-outside or in places with flourescent lights. Decided to stop Benedryl and it slowly stopped after 3 days. It was as if his eyes could not handle any light. I researched on the computer and found a few places stating that Benedryl has been linked to increase light sensitivity. It definately seemed to be the case for him. He normally has this problem, but not to that extreme. I am not doing supplements except multi, Kids Calm, and Cal. I would like to eliminate this problem. He did not wear his glasses to school one day last week and they watched a film on TV. He called me an hour before school was done and said bring his glasses, his eyes were hurting. I did and he was really blinking. I had him leave with me as I think he was having a light reaction. I just am not sure what is causing the problem for him yet. I also started a probiotic to see if this will help. That is as far as I have gotten with it yet. Any ideas?

I have also done some looking on this as it seems to be a problem with my son-and also my husband too. After reading back posts, it seems to be tied to either one of a few things or more. I believe it can be due to pyloria, increased mercury, or yeast. At least that is what I have gathered. I do restrict my son to 30 min of Game Cube time on Sat and Sun only. This is very difficult as he and neighbors love Game Cube. TV kind of seems to be a watch and see. He currently doesn't have tics going on although I do notice a hard blink once in awhile watching TV. At that point, I have him pick something else. He does not watch much TV anyway. If he were ticcing, I would not hesitate to take all screens away for at least 10 days although I dont know how I would approach school-computers, programs, etc. We do have one Plasma which I actually think it causes more problems for him than the CRT. It is larger, so that may be the problem. I am still investigating this myself. I know this summer I had put him on Benedryl for a few days and it seemed to send his light sensitivity off the charts. Claire solved this with antioxidants, some solving it with chelation, others addressing the Pyloria problem. Any other info. on this would be helpful from all. I have not had my son do much of the testing yet besides a hair analysis which showed low in some antioxidants and high in aluminum. I am trying to address those. This is one of the things that I would love to address. Just wanted to add that my husband has a hard time with some of the things I have tried as well, but he will not read anything so he is not informed. I know that can make things even more difficult. Maybe we are a good balance as I would have definately ordered a bubble big enough to put my son in when he was ticcing if I could.

Patty, Just curious, after doing all of this you say your son has improved. Where would you rate his tics now? very mild-hardly noticable, mild, moderate, severe? I also just read Denis Buzbuzian book about Tourettes that talks highly about cranial sacral.

Has anyone considered infared sauna as part of this process? Seems less invasive, yet is it effective?

It sounds like you, me, and "its me" are all concerned about the same thing this week-other children in the family having symptoms. I have become a tic watcher. Things that noone would think twice about, I panic. It's not any fun and I often watch other children and see that they as well have a few quirks that if my children did I would be worried that they might be a tic. Maybe we over think things and I hope that is the case for us all this week. I as well hate strep. I would take throw up over that any day!! Good luck and I hope it turns out to be nothing.

Just something I was reading and thinking about. On the MSNBC website today it talked about a boy who had severe food allergies and was limited to eating only a few foods daily. It said he didnt have signs until 4 which was vomitting. By 6 he was pretty ill and by 10 he was extremely ill until they discovered it was food allergies. I was just wondering if this could be related to tics. They seem to build up like this and are worst at 10-12. So, it shows that possibly food allergies do sometimes progress like this. Dont start until later and get worse. I know some parents think how could my child be reacting to food that he has always eaten. Just found it to be related as my sons Dr. said we know how people react to allergies-hives, etc. Not always so!!!!

Thanks Amy- any other thoughts on if this is normal for a 3 year old?

My 3 year old daughter has occasionally been doing a shoulder shrug. I put a shirt on her today that had a funny collar. She started doing the shoulder shrug. I asked her why and she said the tag bothered her. I got nervous because of my son having tics. I took the shirt off and she stopped. I noticed this once before on her first day of preschool. We walked in and she started shrugging. I have noticed the neighbor girl next door who is almost 3 doing the same shoulder shrug occasionally. Is this normal toddler behavior? Am I paranoid or is this a signal? She will occasionally say a tag is bugging her, but not daily. Is this also normal toddler behavior? My friend said her toddler complains of this too. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm new, My 11 yo daughter has bad tics
bmom replied to pesosmom's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Can anyone recommend a good multi vitamin? I have my son on nutraceutical (NSI) pediapower because it has a lot of good things such as selenium and things that others dont. It says natural strawberry and blueberry flavors. Doesnt say any colors. It does say fructose. Is that one of the bad ingredients? It doesnt state high fructose corn syrup, but is it? Is there a better one? This also has plant enzymes and grape seed extract. Serving size is 4 chewables daily I thought maybe because it has so many vitamins. Any advice? Is this a good one? -

You may want to start with one and then the other to observe. My son increased in tics for 4 days when beginning the magnesium then majorly decreased. I have read that the increase can be a good sign that it is working-just so you know. As far as the Omega 3's- the seem to increase tics in him too, but did not decrease so I stopped that. If you start one at a time, you can tell what is helping , hurting in the long run. Also make sure you get one of the absorbable magnesiums. I started my son on the oxide and it did nothing to help. It was only when I got taurate and Kids Calm did he improve dramatically. -
I have been thinking that also it might also point to Candida-yeast. Just my own hunch as my husband was told he had an ulcer, but later told that it was leaky gut. I was thinking that is possibly due to yeast. What do you all think? A yeast and gluten free diet would help with both issues possibly. Although if candida you would need to also eliminate sugar and add acidolpholis.

Faith, So when you gave him the Amox again-what was the result the second time-symptoms better? I have just been wondering if symptoms would resolve in people that did not have high titers and would benefit also from antibiotics. Has anypne done prophalictic doses without worrying about the titers, but because they consistently improved with antibiotics?

Once again thank you for continuing to post information and keeping us updated. I will look into this.

Just curious-something I have wondered about. Would anyone here suggest an ultra red light(I think this is what it is called) sonic sauna for metal removing? My friend whose son is autistic has one for him and the lab that did my sons hair analysis recommended this as well. Seems to be non intrusive-possibly relaxing. Anyone have info regarding?

Thank you for such a detailed and thorough post. I found many things important. I have a few questions-did she suggest long term use of antibiotics as a preventative? Did she say 1 in 10 children have tics of some sort? Seems so common! Did I understand that Dr. Murphy has tourettes? Does she not believe that testing for items such as vitamins etc. help? Did she say anything about yeast?
-
I just hope that maybe the medical community will take a look at all of this information-shots, biomedical medicine, etc. and see what can happen. If enough people say we did this and within so much time he or she showed improvement-then there has to be something to it. Our children deserve it!!!

I am not getting my children flu shots. I am still wondering what to do about yearly shots as well. Do other moms see if you can space them apart? Do extra vit. c? Any ideas? Chemar- did your boys receive shots? Kim- do you have your boys get their shots? Ideas-anyone????

Possible Pandas/High Strep Titres/Tics....tonsils angle?
bmom replied to 81lumberjack's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
I have not read her book, but I read the People magazine article which I found very interesting and also similiar since I have taken my son to UCLA tics and Tourettes and turned to alternatives as well. She also discusses how she is constantly on the computer which we are all probably familiar with. Anyway, she discusses the GFCF diet that seemed to bring success. It said she took away yeast, wheat, sugar, and dairy and an anti yeast treatment that brought great improvement. She did not mention supplements. She said a doctor prescribed anti yeast- possibly Nystatin? I found the article to be a good one and I might try to buy the book to see if she discusses supplements in it. She said her son has some OCD compulsions that lessoned with the anti yeast. It did not say in the article if he had any Tourettes behaviors, but in the end said he will repeat words sometimes. It also discussed his stimming behavior of flapping his arms. -
Thanks for posting this question as that is what I am wondering as well. My son is only 8 and I am wondering how things will hold out for him in the next few years as we are new to this. Anyone who can reply would be helpful to see if there is a pattern.

I was just reading Lumberjacks topic and wondering what mom's do here about vaccinations? My 3 year old just got over strep and I took her to the Dr. for her 3 year check up. He wanted to give her 2 shots- Hep and chicken pox. I said I wanted to wait because she just got done with being sick and I want to get her immunity strong. He looked at me like I was crazy. My son is the one who had some tics, but I have them both in public school so I dont know what everyone does on this issue. I just worried about shots now, but dont see how to get around them or if I want to. What do you all do?

Thanks, I am starting to lean towards the Candida Clear by Now. Has anyone resulted in more tics when beginning this? Does it have a die off effect? Thanks once again for info.
